Kimi ni Todoke Dropped+ Which Series do You Want Me To Blog? Continuation

Look, I’ve been thinking about this and yeah, I’m going to drop Kimi ni Todoke. It was an interesting enough experience, but it’s at this point become too much of a chore to blog it, as a lot of people pointed out. It could have been a nice slice of life-series, but having to write about it on a weekly basis, it just got on my nerves a little too much.

Now, the question is what to replace it with: what series can I use in replacement to keep me busy this season. I have enough problems finding enough series to blog during this season, so finding an eighth one is going to be virtually impossible. Some people suggested to just blog an older series, and you know what? Why not? This blog started out partially as a review blog of old series anyway.

On top of that, since Kimi ni Todoke was the winner of the “What Show do you want me to blog”-contest back in September, I do want to make up for it somehow and spend the rest of Kimi ni Todoke’s airtime on something more worthwhile.

So here:s the thing: post a comment, leaving the names of up to three anime. The only restrictions are:
– Only 14 episodes or less.
– I haven’t watched it yet. For a quick list, I compiled a quick list here (note the beautiful lay-out) and note that those titles are listed in the way that they appear on AniDB. Any anime not on this list is eligible.
– No movies.

Apart from that, I don’t care: TV-series, ovas, whether they’re 2 years old or 20. Whether it has 13 episodes or only 2 or even 1. Whether it’s an original series or just a continuation. Recommend me the best series with 14 episodes or less that I haven’t seen yet, and I will cover it on a weekly basis just as I do with all of the other series I’m blogging. I don’t care whether it’s only available in raw or even German or French (although do note that it should at least be available somewhere). If the series with the most votes only has 1, 2 or 3 episodes, I’ll probably end up with the top-ranked series that total about 13 or 14 in amount of episodes episodes.

This is a quick poll, the deadline is upcoming Friday January 8th, 23:59GMT and any votes after that won’t count. After that, I’ll start to blog whatever series has the most votes.

The series in italics don’t fit one of the restrictions. Out of the posts that suggested more than three series, I selected the first three that met the restrictions.

Well, so much for the poll. I just discovered that someone has been spamming nearly 30 votes for Koi Kaze. If you’re really going to be that immature about it, then I’ll just cancel this little contest.

I’m still going to blog an old show. Instead, I’ll just pick the series that seems the most interesting out of the ones you suggested. I’ll decide which one it’s going to be after I get home from university.

  1. Pity the choice is limited with 14 or less episodes. Otherwise i’d vote for Zettai Shounen (i guess asking to review the first arc wouldn’t work 🙂 ).

  2. It’s nice of you to try to make up for dropping KnT, I appreciate that.

However, all the best series I know are way over 14 episodes :/

Although I haven’t seen it yet (so I can’t be sure it’s good), I would like to read your non-spoiler review about Sweat Punch (5 episode OVA).

  3. Monster

It’s a bit more than 70 episodes but your life is not complete unless you watch that series. Get over that sissy 14 episode limits and blog the series already!

  4. 1. My first vote goes definetly to Aria the Animation, I’m sure that after watching the first season which consists of 13 episodes you’ll continue with the other two. Slice of life is always a win ^^
    2. Also, an OVA which is on my ”plan to watch” list – Halo Legends. Would really want to know if it is even worth to watch it.

  5. Too bad Honey and Clover/Planetes has more than 14 episodes, just when I thought I want to reccomend it…so my reccomendations are : Aria the animation,Koi Kaze and Mnemosyne (Ova).I hope you’ll enjoy them…

  6. 1. Gunbuster (the original 1988 show, not the shitty sequel). OVA, 6 episodes.

    2. Honey & Clover II. 2006, 12 episodes. Yeah, I know you have not watched the first season… but seriously, this is best show aired on Noitamina. So go watch the first season and then blog the second one (which is the best part of the story anyway).

  7. Might as well say Honey and Clover II… which means you’ll have to watch the first season!

It is truly a great series, and I’d love to hear your thoughts about it.

  8. Oh, Planetes was not in the quick list? Okay, here is a suggestion – drop another series and then you can watch all 26 episodes of Planetes 🙂

  9. … blogsome ate half of my post! Silly Blogsome don’t do it again, ok?

I was saying let me think about a nice serie for Psgels to blog ^*,..,*^

  10. What about the old Tenchi OAvs? They were 13 and another 3 were added recently. It’s not that long serie.

  11. Here’s a diversified list, but let’s ignore your episode limit in some cases 😉
    1. Honey & Clover
    2. Genshiken (particularly the 2nd season)
    2. Seikai no Monshou / Crest of the Stars
    3. Nana
    4. Monster

  12. i want
    -sora no woto
    -durarara
    -dance in the vampire bund
    -nodame cantabile finale
    -okami kakushi
    -katanagatari
and i know these isn’t as good as the others but i want too these if they are acceptble
    -hanamaru kindargarten
    -baka to test

  13. Aria, ugh.

PARANOIA AGENT – i’m surprised you haven’t already seen this, but it is fantastic. A weekly blog would be fab too.

  14. I love Aria, it’s my favorite anime ever, but I recommend you start watching the following seasons right away (making it a 50 episode series). After the second half of the Natural, the episodes full of subtlety become more frequent, and it just gets gradually better and better as the characters gain more depth and the setting expands more and more.

Also over 14 episodes long, Princess Tutu is definitely fantastic blog material. It’s two halves are very different from each other, that’s why.

  15. Koi Kaze and Paranoia Agent are both great, seconding them. Planetes beats both IMO but it is over the 14 ep limit.

  16. Note to people voting for Paranoia Agent: He’s seen it. It’s Mousou Dairinin on the list as that’s its title on AniDB.

  17. Given your tastes and the episode limit I would recommend the following.

Dual! Parallel Trouble. An EVA parody that accidentally develops into something interesting.

Glass maiden/Crystal Blaze Film noir with a scifi angle. The ending is disappointing and it contains the most annoying character I have seen in a while but it has its moments and reminded me about what made film noir popular.

Jyu Oh Sei Brutal survival story with an ending that should have been more uncompromising. However, the early episodes are are a hell of a ride.

  18. Um, for the ones suggesting Paranoia Agent, Kino no Tabi, Jyu Oh Sei, FLCL and Tenchi Muyo – Ryo-Ouki: do note that I already watched them.

For the ones suggesting Natsu no Arashi! and Crystal Blaze: do note that I already blogged them. What more do you want me to say about it? o.O

  19. I don’t think you should make your decision entirely based on the poll, after all that was how you ended up blogging Kimi ni Todoke . Look how that turned out. Do you really have time to blog stuff you don’t like just because it’s popular with your fans?

  20. My first choice would have been Princess Tutu (which I spy on the list anyway), but 13 episodes I recommend ARIA – The Animation.

  21. Oh what a nice way to go about it.

top choice: Koi Kaze (disturbing, refreshing, and beautiful)
    2. Windy Tales (experimental, relaxing)
    3. Victorian Romance Emma Season 2 (Best romance anime ever)

  22. I’m also recommending the Top wo nerae serie, AKA Gunbuster and Diebuster. 6 episode each for a Total of 12. Just within your restriction. It an epic space drama with some very interesting space/time travelling concept. Not to mention how crazy the humans are in this series. The idea they came up with to defeat their enemies are madness. I know some may think Diebuster is total shit compared to Gunbuster. But if you’re going to watch Gunbuster, you might as well watch Diebuster too becasue the ending will….

  23. Okay although I suggested ‘Gankutsuou’, and with it being 24 eps you probably wont blog it, so I also would like to suggest ‘Koi Kaze’, as its on my to watch list and wouldnt mind seeing what you make of it.

  24. So hard to recommend especially since you’ve already seen most of what I want you to blog…

From the list I can’t find:
Seikai no Monshou(Crest of the Stars) or Maria Holic so I’ll go with those.

  25. Sorry about mine previous suggestions. That’s what happens when the amount of work keeps you from reading the whole post. Even now I don’t know why I thought that these are anime you haven’t watched…
    I’ll go with
    1. Dance in the vampire bund
    2. Maria†Holic
    3. Sengoku BASARA
    then.
I hope you will accept changes

  26. You need to see some good romantic comedy shows! It’s a genre you generally dislike, so watching some of the better shows within it might just be what the doctor ordered. So I’m going to recommend “Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl” and “Midori no Hibi” to you, as both fit your requirements, and both are surprisingly high-quality shows.

Another great show that I can’t recall whether or not you’ve seen is “Golden Boy”. Clocking in at only 5 (6?) episodes, it’s a pretty short OAV, and I can’t explain WHY I liked it so much, but I really, truly did.

The show I really WANT to recommend to you, though, is Planetes… but at a full 26 episodes, that doesn’t meet your requirements. Seriously, though, you NEED to see that show sometime. I guarantee it’d get a score of 90 or above from you… it’s absolutely outstanding.

    -Tom

  27. Oh, and having just caught up on comments, I’ll second (third?) Genshiken. Though if you watch it, be sure to also watch the DVD pack-in episodes of “Kujibiki Unbalance” (not the TV series, but the 3 OAV episodes that tie in with the first season of Genshiken), as they add a lot to the whole experience.

    -Tom

  28. its great having you blogging Aria, since you’ll more likely blogging so-ra-no-wo-to,which have the similar mood.

  29. I would vote for Princess Tutu because I think it’s fantastic (and I would love to hear your thoughts on it on a episode to episode basis). Problem is it’s 26 episodes.

  30. Ack! Sorry to obnoxiously post three comments, but I have one more suggestion I just thought of… a really nonstandard one, but one that I seriously think you would LOVE, and which caught me completely by surprise when I saw it.

It’s a 13-episode live-action show called “The Great Horror Family” (Kaiki Daikazoku) – and don’t worry, they’re not the usual hour-long drama episodes, but your typical anime-length 24-minute episodes, so it’s just like watching a 13-episode anime series.

The show was created by the guy who directed “The Grudge,” and is basically him making fun of himself. Apparently, while he and his team were working on The Grudge, they kept thinking of very small adjustments they could make that would change a scene from creepy as hell to absolutely ridiculous… and eventually, they just decided they’d turn all of those ideas into a horror comedy TV show.

The result is not only hilarious, but also REALLY WELL-WRITTEN. I’m not kidding! The show manages to remain interesting, parody Japanese horror beautifully, and even reach an unbelievably satisfying conclusion, with one of the best endings to any show I’ve ever seen. It’s got like, no budget, and the actors aren’t going to be winning any awards, but you can tell everyone involved had a blast making the show, and the writing is just so exceptional that it really is worth checking out.

    Here’s the intro:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqBdSGxVpiA

And this is one of my favorite scenes, from episode four:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_UwzJI64dM

This gets my #1 vote, I think, as it’s a virtually unknown show that really deserves more recognition than it gets. It’s not anime, but don’t let that stop you – it’s outstanding.

    -Tom

  31. Another for Crest of the stars.

Don’t really have anything else that fits the criteria and is worth watching.

  32. I know you have watched Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto ~Natsu no Sora~, but I am not sure if you have watched the first series (called “Someday’s Dreamers” in English). I recommend that.
Also, give Sketchbook a second chance.

  33. The choice is rather limited if it’s among 1′ or less – lengh episodes’ series , but I would say:
    – Meine Liebe Wieder ( I don’t recall of having seen it on your blog)
    – I My Me – Strawberry eggs ( it’s fun!)
-Pet’s shop of horror ( a wonderful horror short series! But then again you may have already seen it.)

  34. – Gunbuster 1988
    – Planetes
    – Macross Plus (OVA/Movie)

All of these are must see animes in the sci-fi genre!

  35. Yay! Kimi ni Todoke dropped! Gomen, for me it was deadly boring.
    Three to vote for…
    -Haibane Renmei
    -Shamanic Princess
-Black Lagoon (I know, it’ more than 13 eps, but you can blog only first season. I doubt it’ll win anyway)
Sorry if any of these were already blogged by you. I searched and didn’t find.

  36. Besides Sweat Punch, I also want to vote for Nodame Cantabile Finale. It actually is my first choice, I just didn’t suggest it since it hasn’t even aired yet (and I thought the idea was to blog an older series).

  37. what about animated films?

    1. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (not a massive hit at the box-office, but won numerous awards)

    2. 5 Centimeters Per Second (consists of 3 segments, beautiful backgrounds and landscapes)

    3. Rebuild of Evangelion, 1st film: Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone

  38. Can I just say to all you commentators, STOP WASTING VOTES ON LONG SERIES.

Psgels, it was kind of hard to find an above-average series that’s short AND hasn’t been seen by you yet, but these might interest ya…

Onegai Teacher (take 5 minutes and lookup reviews on this – I doubt it’ll win the vote, but I think it’ll be something YOU will enjoy, judging by your anime tastes – try it out)

Key The Metal Idol (I know it’s 15 episodes!! >.

  39. …and there’s a length limit. Okay.
Key (It’s an unusual twist on an old Pinnochio story, and from what I read, it’s a dang good one at that. If you can make this tiny +1 exception, please look at this)
Noodle Fighter Miki (Haha, I prefer the above 2 for blogging, but you should at least know about Miki. It’s a fun series, not as consistently funny as Hare+Guu or early Gintama, but for such a short comedy it’s dang memorable.)

  40. Yeah. I like shows that almost nobody’s ever heard of. xD

I am NOT putting in a vote for Aria – even though it’s in my Top 10 favorite anime – I do want you to see it and get your opinion on it, I’d rather you episodically-blog a different lesser-known show.

  41. Big time lurker here, but I guess all sugesstions are welcome 😉
From non-italics Genshiken gets my vote.
From italics – Planetes and Last Exile.

Also… yes, that might sound like a strange sugesstion, but Toradora. I’ve recently rewatched it and Dennou Coil and loved both (tho Dennou Coil moreso).

  42. Paranoia Agent (i though you saw this one, but oh well)

    Aria the Animation

    JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure

too bad that there’s the 14 episodes or less restriction, if it would not have been none of the 3 anime i mentioned would be nominated by me.

  43. If Paranoia Agent is a no, then how about Innocent Venus?

It’s an obscure little mecha anime I saw awhile ago, and for its worth it was entertaining. That being said, it doesn’t need weekly blogging.

If you haven’t seen Photon: The Idiot Adventures, that’s a gem, with some quick humour, interesting sci-fi ideas and generally likeable characters.

  44. – Gag Manga Biyori
    – Macross Plus
    – Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbo: Kyuuketsuki Densetsu Satsujin Jiken (TV Special)

  45. I dont see El-Hazard: The Magnificent World on any of the lists! One of the first anime series I ever watched, but only the dub. Although, I recall the eng dub to be rather good, but I was young then. In fact, I should watch it again.

It’s an OVA, but its 7 episodes long. There is also a direct sequel OVA series, which is 4 episodes long. I’m pretty sure it meets all criteria for this list.

  46. 1.Paranoia Agent
    2.Gunbuster
    3. Armor Hunter Mellowlink(a sidestory from the Armored Trooper Votoms series)
    4.Read or Die
    5.Macross Plus

  47. Sketchbook

Probably won’t win but i’m glad it will at least get 2 votes

You actualy liked the first ep in your “first impression” , you stopped watching because episode 2 was “more of the same” but really, you quit too soon, there’s a few other characters that were introduced later on and the show just keeps getting better

If you like Hyakko and GA,I think you’ll like it.

  48. 1. Gunbuster
    2. Diebuster
    3. I’d give a second vote to Gunbuster if I could. But maybe you could pool votes between respective prequels and sequels, and blog whichever between the two actually qualifies/gets more votes? Like the two Arias, or H+C, or Gunbuster/Diebuster.

  49. im suprised you havent watch Princess Tutu. i suggest you blog it. its amazing. 🙂 at first you think “…ugh maybe not” but in a few episodes you will love it ^_^

  50. Definitely Monster. Having followed your blog and your tasts in anime, you won’t be disappointed. Across the board, it is one of the best animes I’ve come across (plot, character development, historical context, pacing, etc…). Whether you decide to blog it or not, you should definitely watch it!

  51. Since you have watched Macross Frontier, you MUST watch:
    – Macross: Do you remember love (movie)
    – Macross Plus (movie)
The 1st one is a great recap to the classic series, while the 2nd has got simply the best anime soundtrack ever, besides the amazing action sequences. Truly the “Top Gun” of animes.

  52. my suggestions für you are:

    – durarara
    – okami kakushi
    – windy tales

Gibt es denn auch nur in deutsch erhältliche Animes? 😉

  53. Onegai Teacher
    Macross Plus
    Gunbuster 1988

and some longer series I would recommend
Princess Tutu, Honey & clover, Zettai Shonen, Fancy Lala, the BIG-O, sokyo no fafner(note there will be a 2nd series this year), fancy lala, patlabor, Heat Guy-J(directed by Kazuki Akane)
…heck, to think of it, there are just too many, so I will stop here.

  54. The clover series then monster. I consider them to be real gems only to be overshadowed by GREAT but also GREATLY hyped animes.

  55. Looking at the list there are quite a few over the 14 episode limit you placed. Monster is a great show but it’s over 70 episodes. Same goes for planetes but it’s 24 episodes. And a few others.

My vote goes to Denpa teki na Kanojo. It’s a two episode OVA and it’s well worth your time. If you really liked the mystery of Higurashi and umineko then this is right up your alley. It also gives off a Kara no Kyokai feel as well.
I also recommend soon to be ongoing shows
Durarara(Made by the same guy’s who made Baccano)
Dance in the Vampire Bund(Shows potential)
and Hidden God(Written by the Higurashi writer so it’s got to be good)

    Also try
Bakemonogatari(Personally I don’t like this but everyone else seems to think it’s a masterpiece so I am curious to see what you think)
and Seitokai no Ichizon(I watched it, finished it and I got to say it’s not bad)

    Thanks for the reviews

  56. What about Bubblegum Crisis? It’s pretty old and I’ve never watched it, but everyone seems to have a strong love for this OVA.

  57. I think the best Aria was by far the Origination, but since that’s the third season, its not really that great of a place to start blogging.

I’ll throw in my vote for Seikai no Monshou / Crest of the Stars.

  58. I’m throwing my lot in with the Gunbuster (1988) group. I’d love to see your take on the final episode and especially the finale.

Also another vote here for Seikai no Monshou (Crest of the Stars).

To round it out, my final vote goes to Aria.

  59. Sorry for the second post, but I just remembered – second season of Ah! My Goddsss.

Also, people are telling you Paranoia Agent because that’s not on the list you provided for anime that you’ve seen before for some reason. O.o

  60. Blog Aria the Animation. Most episodes have some theme to appreciate, and it’s overall a very relaxing series, one of the best slice of life anime if not the best.

  61. For a 13-episode series psgls, I say go Koi Kaze or Mushiuta. Both are awesome and unfortunately underrated, and would be well worth a quick look from you.

For a longer series, as others here have suggested, you can’t go wrong with Monster.

  62. Victorian Romance Emma for sure.

A very light hearted show and sweet. Although the romance may seem a little forced at times it is a very well made show nevertheless. Production values are stunning as well.

I would pick FLCL but its way to short – it would be better to watch it and just do an overall review post since it’s only like 6 episodes.

  63. Aria the Animation, Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo, and Kino no Tabi. The first two are completely awesome (I really do think you’ll like the latter–A LOT), but I haven’t seen Kino no Tabi, though I’ve heard good things about it.

  64. I’m disappointed that you’re no longer blogging Kimi ni Todoke (I voted for that). To do justice, you should blog Koi Kaze.

  65. Koi Kaze…it focus on a tight family issue which is a big taboo in Japanese anime. It’s definitely worth watching…ENJOY!

  66. Man, I’m already on the 100th+ post. Psgels, your site is becoming pretty active. Anyhoo, i’ll vote for:

    1. Midor no Hibi
    2. Tide Line Blue
    3. Divergence Eve (or Misaki Chronicles)

    Akemashite Omedetou everyone!

  67. Too bad Kimi ni Todoke got dropped since it was agony for you to watch it. So, I offer Koi Kaze, a short and complicate family story.

  68. I love Glass Mask and wish there be more anime like it. Koi Kaze is pretty good. That’s my vote…Koi Kaze. Definitely watch it!!!

  69. Someone voted for Victorian Romance Emma but I thought was good but too slow.

My vote goes to Koi Kaze which I think have an interesting story line.

  70. While I found Koi Kaze quite touching and sweet, I recommend reading the manga instead. And even though Honey and Clover has my favorite anime scene ever (twister anyone?), I have to vote hands down for FLCL. Fooly Cooly or Furi Kuri is the zaniest, craziest mind blowing anime ever. It is my personal favorite. The soundtrack by The Pillows is awesome. The rock music adds just the right flavor. This is the kind of anime I suggest a second viewing of; I get something different from it everytime I watch. And my last ditch pitch is this -” a robot, a space girl, bass guitars, cats and a fake manga scene!!!! – what more can you want?”

  71. Shit!! You’ve seen FLCL!!! Well I made a good case anyway. My vote is for Koi Kaze, (My apologies for being lame and missing that.)

  72. I hate watching short anime series because there’s not enough episodes to develop the characters. The only good ones I’ve come across that did a wonderful job was Baccano! and Koi Kaze but you’ve blogged Baccano! already.

You should watch and blog Koi Kaze.

  73. Aria the Animation is my all time favourite. It’s slow and overflowing with happiness many times, but the character development will slowly come over time. To me, the best of the Aria series is Origination but watching in order will give more meaning to it.

As new upcoming series, I’d love to see you blog Durara.

I’d recommend Lovely Complex, but it’s 26 episodes.. romance aside, the comedy is pretty good 😀

  74. 1- Planetes (if you marathon-watch this, it will be like a big movie ^^ ) frankly, it matches everything you like in anime.
    2- Sketchbook
    3- Paranoia Agent

  75. Ok, abiding by your limitations first:
read or die (ova), diebuster (new), genshiken, k-on, macross zero.

Next, series that you should watch eventually anyway! (* = up your alley of interest): rahxephon*, code geass, honey clover*, last exile*, bamboo blade, kekkaishi, fruits basket, mai hime, planetes*, scrapped princess, monster*.

  76. Definitely Monster!

It is true that there is no magic nor fantasy in this anime. Just a psychological thriller

However, the plot is simply awesome and realistic.

  77. Gag Manga Byori, since you expressed your interest in this franchise a few posts ago. I know this anime won’t ever win the contest, but whatever. It’s brilliant, I just have to vote it.

  78. Aria – The Animation (I rather see you blog this than Koi Kaze, as it’s down to those two really)

Sketchbook (I’m with totoum, you liked Hyakko and GA, why did drop Sketchbook? I think I’ve said this before actually)

  79. Koi Kaze – great series and not your typical romance. However, I did like the manga better as others have pointed out. The timing is better. Aria is crap.

  80. I’d prefer if you could watch some of the longer series (24-26 episodes), but since I’m not blind I’ll respect the available instructions.

    -Gunbuster
    -Diebuster
    -Macross Plus

    Surprisingly mecha heavy, I suppose.

  81. I remove my Koi Kaze vote. The fanboys keep pissing me off by comparing it “How my Koi Kaze’s better than you all?”

    Oh please…

  82. Another vote for Aria the Animation.you rarely do a SOL series though, for exceptions are those WMT series…

  83. I vote for:
    -Mnemosyne
    -Black Blood Brothers
    -Boys Be

These are my vote. It’s really hard to find good animes with 14 episodes or less. Most are in 20’s or 50’s amount of episodes. I do hope you’d still give a final review for Kimi ni Todoke when it finishes airing.

  84. Given your “no more than 14 episodes” rule, it was kinda hard to find even 3 good recommendations. Therefore, all of these are either ova or movie.

    FLCL
Hoshi no Koe (Also called: Voices of a Distant Star)
Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo (Also called: The Girl who leapt through time)

FLCL is a must-watch for anybody. Hoshi no Koe is good, it’s a single episode that you might like. The last one is a movie, which is one of the best anime movies around, it’s weird that you haven’t seen it yet.

  85. i’ll just add my favorite anime of all time
    -Monster
and my most anticipated for the winter season -Durara.

  86. I honestly think that someone voted multiple times for Koi Kaze somewhere in the middle.

My vote goes for Aria the animation.

  87. Aria is so mundane though that I think it be harder to blog than Kimi ni Todoke. The only reason why I forced myself to finished watching it is cause of the pretty animation, the op song and the cool ass setting.

I vote for Honey & Clover, first season (no point in blogging second season if you haven’t watched the first one.)

    Vote for Genshinken as well.

  88. is there any way I can vote for you to not blog aria? I feel like that series should be watched for entertainment/enjoyment first (blogging each episode would ruin the whole appeal and nature of the show).

  89. Don’t people read posts? What’s with all the votes for episodes WAY over 13 episodes long (Monster is like 70 episodes, folks)? And he said no movies too.

I’ve never seen Koi Kaze, so I’ll recommend Kino’s Journey (Kino no Tabi).

  90. Hm, I don’t know why Kino no Tabi is in italics but oh well, let’s see…I vote for Macross Plus or Koi Kaze since it sounds interesting.

  91. It would be awesome to see the Patlabor OVAs blogged. But beware, the first one has 7 episodes and belongs to the movies timeline, while the second one is basically a sequel to the TV series and has 16 episodes (it includes the conclusion to the Griffin storyline too, which could make it even more interesting, considering you’ve already seen the tv series).

  92. You should definitely check out Aria the Animation. It’s a superbly done slice of life series, and I’m actually really surprised that you haven’t seen it yet.

  93. I sad that Kimi ni Todoke is dropped…I love it. However, you can’t go crazy blogging something you don’t like. However, I hope you continue watching it and decide in the end what rating it should get. Although I don’t agree on all your ratings, I appreciate your opinions and insight.

Geez…so many votes for Aria. I haven’t seen it and quickly checked the OP. The animation is too cute…can’t watch it.

Then I also checked out Koi Kaze (the other anime with so many votes) and the 1st episode was interesting. I’m actually watching this serie. I hope you’ll blog Koi Kaze.

  94. There ain’t a lot of good series under 14 episodes…I would say blog Koi Kaze. It’s different and I’d like to see your view and rating of it.

  95. Well, I’m continuing to watch Kimi ni Todoke even if it’s dropped…I find Sawako a nice character. I agreed sometimes it have too many of those sparkly designs but past that, it’s still a good serie.

I’ve watched Koi Kaze 2 years ago when someone listed it as one of their top 10 anime in your post for top 10 anime. It was actually pretty good and I’ve followed up on it. The topic in the story is actually a taboo in Japanese culture…wow. You should blog Koi Kaze. I think it depicts something that is possible in reality.

  96. I vote for Koi Kaze…I watched this 2 years ago after someone listed it as his top 10 anime under PSGELS’ blog for top 10 anime. It’s a good serie.

  97. Some people are recommending Princess Tutu but that’s longer than 14 episodes. Well, I checked it out and I was surprised by the opening and music. I typically like more realistic animation and not the kiddy, big eyed character animations; however, Princess Tutu’s storyline seems promising. I’ll be watching it.

PSGELS, you should check Princess Tutu on your own time and see if you like it.

    However, I vote for:
Koi Kaze or Innocent Venus (not too many people know about these). THANKS.

  98. My vote would go to Aria as well, since I recall you have a nice review for YKK and you seem to be a fan for decent SOL series.

  99. I wanna give you to give shot at these series : Gungrave (great action and soundtrack);
    Mnemosyne no-Musume Tachi (gore with lots of depth);
Aria the Animation (as many said; terrific slice of life, charming characters, etc)

  100. ooh and I forgot to mention.. 😛
    DNA 2 !
It’s a great series, how awkard it may seem on the outside.

  101. 1. Innocent Venus
    2. Dance in the Vampire Bund
    3. Midori no Hibi

please blog innocent venus.. it’s a great watch i promise…

  102. My vote goes to Record of Lodoss War and Macross Plus (I’d choose the movie version, but since it doesn’t fit your criteria, go with the OAVs)

  103. Voting for

    1 Seikai no Monshou
    2 Aria the Animation

not my ideal vote since i yet have to watch the aria seasons preceding aria the animation but oh well. if monster was eligible def would have gone for it.

  104. okey.. first… why the hell does Monster has 10 (or maybe now more) votes… it has about 70 eps if I remember correctly :/
and i have seen mulitple titels with over 20 eps… did i miss that the limit of 14 doesn’t count anymore? well w/e…

    I vote for:
    1 – Paranoia Agent
    2 – Mnemosyne
    3 – FLCL

i’m actually more curious about what you think of Mnemosyne… but since parania agent already has more votes, and i’d rather want you to watch that one XP.
and i think you should also at least watch FLCL since it gets a lot of good reviews. i also wander what you have to say about that ^^”” (sorry about my not so good english)

  105. a tough one since i generally don’t like watching 13 episode anime’s. too small. I recommend really only one thing comes to mind.

    -MONSTER
this series is perfect anime through and through. no magic no futuristic stuff. just pure psychological thriller. amazing characers and brilliant music. what helped it too is the fact that it is a complete adaption of the manga. no fillers nothing. by the time they animated it the manga finished long ago. this is as perfect as animes go. sure its long but if you take the plunge you wont regret it.

  106. ARIA THE ANIMATION,from the director of Kaleido Star,Princess Tutu and Strange Dawn, definitely!

    *Full Metal Panic?Fumoffu
    *Full Metal Panic!The Second Raid
(both are great comedy and drama ,respectively)

well, for a not-so-old,not-so-new series worth blogging, the best two are MONSTER and RAHXEPHON.

  107. Slice of life animes are difficult to enjoy if it’s not done well. I didn’t enjoy Aria the animation…it was too cute. I prefer Cross Game’s slice of life because the simple daily activities are done well.

I haven’t seen Koi Kaze but the summary seems different and could be interesting. Since I didn’t like Aria the animation, put my vote for Koi Kaze.

  108. the Koi Kaze fanboys sure are annoying ,though.I place my vote on Aria the Animation,Mnemosyne, and Honey and Clover II (alhough it’s a sequal)

  109. Paranoia Agent – great storyline
Innocent Venus – too short and needs more episodes
Koi Kaze – different and just right

  110. Since you’re dropping Kimi ni Todoke, I think you should replace it with Koi Kaze or Victorian Romance Emma. Both have different romances and I enjoyed them.

  111. I’m still enjoying Kimi ni Todoke. Although the episodes now don’t have the same pace as the 1st three episodes, it’s still good. I like the animation and music.

I’m sorry this romance anime was a bore to you but there’s for Koi Kaze. It’s short, bitter and sweet. Enjoy!

  112. I really enjoyed Glass Mask and Mushishi and wished there were more anime like this out there. Princess Tutu is also awesome but that’s more than your requirement of 14 episodes or less.

So many votes for Koi Kaze (I enjoyed this too). It’s definitely worth to blog because it’s also great.

  113. I hope it won’t be Koi Kaze then:) Durarara!! seems to be promising but you will probably blog it either way after giving it 100% potential rate:) I suggest adding an ip filter to such contests which would block more than two comments from the same IP address. (Two becouse i.e. I had to change my vote)

  114. There was spam not just to Koi Kaze, but Aria too. Just check the time of some votes. The guy didn’t even bother to change the text. I guess the only “real” votes are in the series that got 10 or below – Gunbuster, Planetes, Macross Plus, Monster, etc.

  115. Heey sorry to hear about that man. I know you took alot of time trying to organize this thing and the spamming kinda ruined it. Your reviews are well appreciated, as this is one of the most reliable review sights I’ve seen in a looong time, and I look forward to checking out the review for whatever show you DO end up looking into.

  116. I think that Aria and Koi Kaze should both be disqualify for excessive spam.

I share Alael’s point of view. The only “real” votes are in the series that got 10 or below.

  117. If a new poll with less than 10 votes created, and got spammed again …I think it’s a no.

Let’s wait for psgels to add some addons to block spamming…

  118. Try logging the IP address next time. Much harder to change that. That and/or have only confirmed email addresses.

  119. A bit late, but I would have voted for Gunbuster. I’ve seen Diebuster, but not its predecessor.

As for what I’d like to recommend:
    – Ar Tonelico Sekai No Owari De Utai Tsuzukeru Shoujo
    – Kanamemo
    – RIN ~Daughters of Mnemosyne~
    – Strait Jacket

  120. i’m actually relieved. i voted for seikai no monshou which was way behind aria+koi, but i really didnt want koi kaze to be blogged so i made aria my second choice. hopefully a good one will be picked up now the field’s opened.

  121. Seikai no Monshou is another great novel apdation, along the lines of Towards the Terra and Seirei no Moribito. I think one of the most appealing aspects of Seikai no Monshou is that it has one of the most endearing anime couple, not to mention rare, in the entire media. To boot, it also has an incredible female lead.

  122. Don’t let that spammer get you down. I think it’s the best choice to pick up a show *you* want to blog at the moment. Maybe you would enjoy Koi Kaze, but maybe not at the moment after such stupid stuff. So you’re totally right in deciding to choose some show which would be fun for *you* to blog!

  123. That sucks man!! Why would you spam something like this? Who cares really one way or the other what show you blog? It just takes the fun out of the whole process. Well, at least you got a huge list of recommended anime that you have not seen yet. I haven’t seen Aria, but Koi Kaze was truly a good show. You should try and watch sometime–or better yet, read it.

  124. If someone wants you to watch his or her favorite anime , and respects you so much to spend a day of their time to hope you pick koi kaze(which is one of my favs,) (1. prince of tennis 2.Koi Kaze 3. Welcome to the NHK) then you owe it to YOUR BIGGEST FAN to review and give your opinion of it.

  125. Planetes has an interesting premise. If you haven’t watched it, you should check it out. Um… as for blogging, I’d just go with whatever catches your eye among the recommendations; writing about it would be a lot more fun.

  126. @251, this isn’t an oligarchy. The webmaster wanted to appeal to as many fans possible, not just YOU.

The author owes YOU and everyone else nothing. The bottom line: it’s their free time spent watching AND blogging about anime, NOT yours. You don’t like their choices, go find another review site or start your own.

People like the spammers didn’t respect the voting system. Therefore the author doesn’t have to and didn’t honor it.

  127. Damn, well, I just watched Kino’s Journey (Kino no Tabi) and I’d have to change my vote for it… this actually qualifies as an old series. Even though, you know, the vote is canceled. Just putting it out there.
