Yeah, this episode was meant as one big build-up for the thing that happened in its final 30 seconds. You definitely don’t want to read this entry if you have yet to see this episode.
The creators kept hinting, though I failed to notice that entirely. Erin basically gets summoned to the queen as a token of gratitude for using Lilan to save the royal family. Of course, Damya immediately proposes her to start working as the Queen’s bodyguard. They act really surprised when Erin declines, and so Erin tells the Queen (without Damya, and with Ialu) about the tragedy that happened when the queen was only one year old. Like expected, she didn’t know a thing about it, and everyone from her time has taken great care in order to never mention it again. I’m surprised if there are still people alive who remember it, aside from the Wind Tribe.
But yeah, that came as an utter shock to the queen. I’m not sure what exactly did it: that shock at such an old age, or whether the Psi Gamuls finally succeeded in poisoning her, but whatever it is her death came as an utter surprise to me. This of course has huge implications. I already thought that Damya would cause trouble eventually, but what kept him back was his genuine loyalty to the queen. Now that that’s gone, he’s probably going to pick a fight with the Grand Duke, using that attack as an excuse, and in order to win he’s probably going to do whatever it takes in order to get Erin to cooperate.
If there are indeed only 2 novels, then this marks the beginning of the end. There are nine episodes left, and in those, the story is going to have to come to an end, and I’m very curious to how the creators are going to do it.
Rating: ** (Excellent)
No matter how I read there do seem to be 4 novels; The Book of the Fighting Serpent, The Book of the King Beast, The Quest Chapter, and The Final Chapter. I wonder they’re going to make their own ending or use the ending from the novels.
Nukku and Mukku where not in the novels, but that never bothered me but this episode they stuck out like a sore thumb. They almost ruined the seriousness that had built up the past 3 episodes.
There are four novels, but the final two either haven’t come out yet or have only just been released. The final two are supposed to take place eleven years after the end of the second book (i.e. when Erin is 29).
My guess is that they’ll end this series at the end of the second book, and we’ll have to wait and see if we get a second series for the other two books.
PSGELS, are you still watching anime without subs? I don’t know how you can watch it…I sure can’t. To me, there’s no point in watching an anime when you can’t understand it and enjoy it to the fullest. It’s a headache instead. ^_^
Well, this episode was great…it brought tears to my eyes when Erin confess her secrets to the Queen. I don’t know how the creators will end it well with 9 episodes left…please let them be great!
Now, the Queen in the end died from hemorrhage to her head (she had bleeding in her head). She had hemorrhage when she was knocked on the ship when the Toudas attacked in episode 40. Poor Erin, what will happen to her now? The new queen is so young and innocent and will probably be used by Damya.
Can’t wait for next episode!
Most of all, the new queen is naive. An easy tool in Damiya’s hands. What I’m wondering about is what he gains from causing trouble between the queen’s people and the duke’s people…I mean, they obviously need the duke’s soldiers (and toudas) to defend against neighbouring countries, so why seed distrust?
Ooh. I must admit, there are 4 novels – the last I checked volume 3 & 4 had not been released yet. I apologize.
From what I read on Amazon, volume 3 will take part 11 years after the incidents of the first two volumes, so even if the anime ends there, it probably finds a proper conclusion. 🙂
I was thinking that it might have been poison since the timing was so convenient…
