Kamisama Hajimemashita – 06

I love how this show is able to cheer me up no matter what. This once again was the best episode since the first episode, and that first episode really was in a league of its own with all of the hyperactivity going on there. This episode was utterly hilarious in its first half, and incredibly charming in its second.

I usually dislike fevers because they’re often forced in for extra drama, but here the creators made brilliant use of it by having Tomoe dress up as Nanami. As an added surprise, Shinjirou was again hilarious in combination with him, toying with a lot of the bishounen idol cliches. His entrance alone was just delightful in the way that it created this expectation that things would get crazy, and they did.

What this episode also did really well was portray love: Nanami’s crush developing was very good, especially now that she also got to see a chunk of his past and how much he changed. His previous master is also finally introduced here. This part worked particularly well due to how much I like the characters already, after just six episode, and I really have to say that Kamisama Hajimemashita has some of the most consistently enjoyable characters of the season.
Rating: 6/8 (Awesome)

  1. Out of all of the shoujo shows airing this season, this one is my favourite. The art style is so simple but so nice on the eyes, the characters are funny and relatable, the comedy is quite hilarious, the episodic format is quite enjoyable and the the opening song is so good! No much negatives to say about this show except maybe that it should of been 26 episodes and not 13.

  2. I am loving this show, but I am finding it interesting that you place the 1st episode in such high regard. About the only thing I liked about that episode were our two lead characters. It was the later episodes that sold this show for me.

Either way, this show reminds me of InuxBoku even if the leads are quite different. The think about that one though is that none of the stories were interesting/entertaining, just the characters. This one has interesting AND entertaining stories.

  3. Previous master? His first master was Mikage so if you’re referring to Yukiji…

They’ll get to her later. (And then they’ll never get to the rest of her.)

    1. I think he meant Akura-ou or the Bloodthirsty King. Yeah sadly if this is only 13 episodes, they’ll never get to the very interesting parts. I just read the manga because I was getting impatient, and oh boy the mangaka is brilliant.

  4. I love how sometimes this show just seems to be a huge parody of shoujo, (that tengu!) and then it get serious and ends on a lovely heartwarming note. And the ending! It’s always a seamless transition from the end of the episode. Love it.

  5. Also our favorite KamiHaji episode so far. It just had so much going on. They could have just had an episode that focused on Tomoe-as-Nanami, but that turned out to be only half of the running time. The rest was Nanami being swept back in time – the fact it was not a dream and her soul was actually in the past, was both extremely cool and a little creepy.

Nanami seems convinced that the roguish Tomoe she saw back then wasn’t who he COULD be and is capable of, but who he WAS and has moved on from, and isn’t buying Mizuki’s admonition. Looking forward to whether she ever tries to learn more from the fox’s mouth what he was up to, or if she’ll let sleeping foxes lie.

  6. i like how the episode makes you feel a mixture of emotions, I laugh at the funny bits, and love all the heartwarming bits. and there’s still an air of mystery and glimpses of characters you know will show up later.

I think on the whole this develops a lot better than tonari, I like the characters in tonari as well, but it the plot so far just goes around on itself.
