This was one of those annoying episodes of which you won’t know whether it was good or not until the series ends. Annoying to review, I mean, not to watch, mind you.
But yeah, in terms of plot, nothing concrete really happens: people search for someone, they don’t find him. People fight, they retreat. People prepare for something, but that is left for the next episode. A cliff-hanger promises a lot of intrigue… yet not in this episode.
No, this was all about character building. Fleshing out the cast and making the audience more familiar with them, in particular the skateboard guy and his companion, along with Saruhiko (who is not Reishi by the way, a mistake I made at first). Highlight was the gorgeously animated fight scene between these guys.
But yeah, this build-up is nice and all, but it’s pointless if you ain’t gonna use it, and shows like this tend to forget that, getting so much caught up in their build-up that they forget to deliver. this show has the luxury of being anime original, so not bound on any kind of original source material whatsoever, so in theory it can really do as it pleases. Now make use of that!
Rating: 4/8 (Nice)
Like it was mentioned a lot .. plot starts really going full speed in ep6 (next episode) .. all episodes before that are of course are just meant for establishing the characters, their basic relations and the world they exhibit .. now that we have all the pieces i think the pacing will really speed up and many revelations will be made about many things … the colored kings, the role of the colorless king, who really runs the city and what are those big floating swords from ep1, who is Neko and whether Shiro is the white king or not and if he is why he doesn’t seem to remember that.
Also .. interesting to see that Saruhiko (the guy who betrayed Homura gang) guy actually can use powers belonging to two different kings (almost opposing ones), i thought the kings need to .. hmmm .. like give permission or allow for their subordinate to use their power .. but it seems it’s something beyond even the kings control .. that IMO made Saruhiko the most interesting character this episode .. he knew exactly how to tick off Yata (who obviously seems the simple minded/hot headed but honest and loyal type) and surely seems to have a rush from fighting .. not sure though if his defection to the Blue guys was just to gain more powers to use for fighting or he has bigger motives.
Even more interesting is how Shiro suddenly doesn’t seem to exist inside the school just because he left the place .. he isn’t in the records and this girl from his class doesn’t even seem to know who he is (and she didn’t seem like she is lying) .. could this have something to do with Shiro’s colorless king latent power (which we don’t know about yet) .. IMO he probably never lost his PDA .. because he never had one to begin with and was NEVER a student in this school.
yeah it really gives off that idea that he’s some how worked a hypnosis trick of sorts on ppl
That would be interesting becasue it means he also used that Hypnosis power on himself to appear as an innocent student to trick and mislead everyone … as far as i know there is only one person who pulled a similar trick before successfully ***spoilers in case you didn’t -somehow- watch or read Death Note till now*** .. yeah .. Yagami Light did use a similar trick before when he wiped out his own memory so that all his actions would appear innocent .. but he was confident that he will come in contact with the Death note again and fully regain his memories. **spoilers end***
Wonder what Shiro might have been thinking if that’s the trick he pulled off here XD
it doesn’t completely fit, i mean the bloodied clothes were left in the wardrobe.. it might be an uncontrollable jekyll and hyde thing? oh he has these powers that he uses unconsciously. Maybe some sort of self protection mechanism?
a lot of wild speculation here!
Yeah, we really needed another episode to tell us that Yata is an idiot. Now that we know that Yata is an idiot, the story can proceed. Yata!
That’s all you see in this episode … really !!!?
I don’t see why we have to wait for plot, I mean if you have one, show us! I can’t believe I have wasted my time with so far because I swear nothing has happened that changed anything. I mean for two of the episodes they did all this stuff only for at the end to say “I was lying” and go back to square one. WTF! If k has a direction it sure has a funny way of showing us. Just pathetic!
You can’t have plot or else there won’t be any story left by now. Remember EVOL?
No need for story, just more FIGHTING SCENES.
