Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure – 26

Oh Jojo. What an ending. I did not expect what would happen here at all. Perhaps the ending was not as impressive as with Psycho Pass or From the New World, but still this is every way in which a shounen series should end. You hear that, other shounen series? Watch this for how endings should be done!

Still, the climax of this show was so over the top that it just could not have been made today. It’s just so completely bloody random to suddenly have the volcano erupt this giant rock into the stratosphere that blows Cars into outer space. It’s completely impossible and really inconvenient, but in terms of creativity and as a plot twist it just made for the perfect over the top ending. Yeah it makes no sense, but this is so much better than just the characters sending beams to each other until one side dies. Plus there is the irony: the perfect human being on earth is completely useless outside of it.

It was also really fun to just see this series take the piss out of aftermaths, and poking fun at so many tropes before they even existed. Joseph hooking up with Suzie Q was hilarious, and how many times have we seen an actual divorce here? I can count the amount of series with divorces on one hand (Noein, Xamdou, Zone of the Enders, uhhh…).

Bringing a character who was thought dead back to life is a dead horse. But I can forgive this show for it by how it did this, and how much it poked fun at this.

So, as for any possible continuations. The ending of this episode was a sequel hook, nothing more. Until we see an official confirmation it is not clear whether the producers can gather enough money to make it. Now, as for the actual chance that they will succeed in this: I’d say it is pretty damn good. Take a look here and here. A little bit of math shows about 22109 sold DVD and blu-ray copies. That’s a lot!
Rating: 5.5/8 (Excellent)

  1. No divorces here, Joseph is going to Japan to visit his daughter who hooked up with a Japanese dude. Lucy Q & Jojo are still husband and wife.

  2. Yeah, Joseph is still married, but the relationship ain’t perfect (I’ll hold ny tongue here for the sake of spoilers). This was a fun ending. Come on David! Productions! sequel this Fall please!

  3. This series will probably get a 90+.

And Jojo gets even better with new arc, this may be one of your favorites shonen ever psgels.

  4. SEKAI ICHIII!

That was one hell of volcano explosion and Joseph had lady luck by his side. It would be hilarating if people had prostetic arms like that XD

  5. You probably noticed the Coffin rising from the water with the big DIO on it being brought out of the water at the end of the episode.

  6. Part 3 (aka the arc/season that takes place after this one) is super popular in Japan so the chances of it getting made are really good.

  7. Well, it wasn’t a normal volcanic eruption. It was the Ultimate Being’s ripple, amplified by the Red Stone of Aja, that set it off.

Oh yeah, and that Sony Walkman: none of that Somy or Zony crap. They actually use the real brand name.

  8. > Perhaps the ending was not as impressive as with Psycho Pass or From the New World.

I can’t comment on FtNW because I haven’t seen it, but how is PP’s ending impressive? I consider it a non-ending. It went for the cliched “history repeats itself” route, which is a path that “serious” works feel the need to take when they can’t come up with creative endings.

In contrast, the ending for JJBA is “the perfect over the top ending”, because of its impossibility and inconvenience. I can’t name any other TV show ending as outrageous as JJBA’s.

But anyway, excellent coverage. It looks like you really like this show. For your information, that ending sequel hook was actually part of the manga, and since David Production’s adaptation has almost been panel-to-panel literate in its translation from page to screen, they included that hook at the end of the episode.

Next up is Part 3 of JJBA, known as Stardust Crusaders. It’s probably the most popular JJBA part of all of JJBA’s eight parts. There is no way that DP will not adapt this part. Sales so far are excellent (as you pointed out), and Part 3 is pretty much a money printer (as others here have pointed out), so the chances are 99.9 percent likely that DP will do it. The only question is when.

  9. “I can’t name any other TV show ending as outrageous as JJBA’s.”
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann had a climaz that was even more outrageous
