With this epsiode, the fairies watched Groundhog Day and thought “hey, we can do that too!” The result was a very surreal episode. And with this series, that has to say something.
Also, what made this different from Groundhog Day was that Watashi kept running into herself. At first I thought that these would be future versions of herself, but since we never got to see those this remains just speculations. All that’s clear is that the fairies were hungry and this only became clear near the end when suddenly everyone started making cakes.
I’ve made my complaints about Assistant-kun, but in this episode he had a very interesting role to play. One thing that’s always fun about the series with a disjointed narrative is seeing all of the out of order introductions, and this was the point at which he apparently got introduced. Does that mean that he won’t appear in the final arcs or are we currently watching the chronological first arc of the story? I doubt that though, because something tells me that the creators still want to explain why Watashi’s watch broke. Also why was grandfather gearing up for battle?
Rating: 5/8 (Great)
It seems like this was the first arc to be resolved in just one episode, although some questions remained unanswered so who knows. The episode was great, quite a mind-rapist.
I liked it, got a bit annoyed at the whole repeat thing, but with this series what you’re given is what you get, and thats fine too.
I started this series totally blinking and wondering what the hell it would be about. Now, I no longer care, its just that good. The social commentaries, the play on the decline of humanity, and the lovable but insane faeries are just a delight. Its the gem of this year, IMHO. I look forward to the next episode everyday. 🙂
Nice avatar! Makes me want to scream ‘they’re the wrong trousers!!!!’
Haha! Yes, those are some of my favorite shorts, and the emotions captured by the silent Feathers McGraw is just amazing. Great stuff there 🙂
It’s amazing how something so cute as a fairy can be so .. twisted! That scene where they were playing volleyball with a head was just weird!!!
I think thats the Dark Satire dripping through, personally I have nice inclinations towards dark humor and “that sort of thing” the little faeries get away with so much, its funny, this show is strange, but quite likable.
Assistant could appear in the final arcs, he just can’t meet Watashi during them. He was still previously her grandfathers assistant anyway.
It is looking extremely likely to me that this “disjointed” narative is the show being told backwards arc by arc.
If you look at the OP at the end they flash through various side characters. There’s Y, then Voyager and Pioneer and then there’s Watashi and a bunch of girls in what sure look like school uniforms suggesting that we’re in line for a time jump back to Watashi’s school days soon enough.
Man, this thing is getting better with each episode. This is how awesome a main character is supposed to be.
So Watashi tells fairies cloning is morally wrong .. so they surprisingly comply, only instead of cloning (which is morally wrong) they resort to time loops/paradoxes to create extra copies of her without using cloning, mischievous clever bastards XD
I think they are a case of “lethal indifference” .. they just think interacting with humans is entertaining and fun but they really don’t value the well-being of humans that much .. kinda like robots without the Azimov “Robot laws”)
