I can be quick about this episode: watching exposition that you’ve already seen before is boring. Training arcs are even worse. There will be a big chance that I’ll put this show on hold again for blogging in the upcoming Winter season, because the very reason why the Greed Island is so good is its exposition. Sure, this was the point where the 1999 series went downhill in its exeuction, but I don’t want to get bogged down by the details again. Really, with the way things look, it will have taken nearly a year and a half for the series to reach the new material. Like, more episodes than what it took Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood to tell its full story.
Also, the new ED… something tells me that the sound guy was not paying attention again. “WhoaaaahooooooooHOOOOO”… is that really what you want to use as a cliff-hanger for the next half year?
Rating: 3/8 (Mediocre)
I understand your point of view, but it’s kind of unfair to review the anime thinking “I’ve already seen this, so is boring”.
I mean, is a different studio, 10 years later. They’re aiming to new public, they don’t expect you know the story, so they won’t skip the parts that you find boring to watch again, and that doesn’t make it a bad chapter.
I agree about the ending though xD
That was indeed an unbiased and a professional review of episode 59! Very helpful reading!!!
Like, zomg the ED was bad. 3/8
Dropped blog
I understand you find it boring because you know the exposition but… does that really deserve it a Mediocre rating? O_O I know you aren’t used to it because you don’t know original material for 99.9% series you blog, but still… it is kinda unfair for the ep in question and those who made it.
Just drop blogging this series until the Chimera Ant arc starts (I am pretty sure it is going to be animated, since it is what all the people are waiting for).
Your reviews are going to be really biased if you keep doing it with that mentality.
Just a little review in your Monthly Summaries is enough, you don’t need to do it weekly.
In all honesty, I’ve read the manga AND watched the original anime. But this episode didn’t fail to impress me and I was hooked in the whole length of the episode.
I liked the new ending very much and still think it’s much much better than the previous one.
Some people have watched the otiginal anime and read the manga, but that doesn’t stop them from fully enjoying this new iteration and that includes the exposition parts.
And think about people who haven’t seen those! They surely expect to read more than “I’ve already seen this part, meh.” coming from you.
Agree whit this, pretty well done chapter, Psgels have that tendency but is part of him. I dont blame him.
Like you, I find GI boring and not worth watching twice (that’s why I’m dropping it too regardless of how well Madhouse executes it).
But what kind review is this? “I’ve seen it before so who cares about everything else?” Fuck.
Now imagine if they used the same Nen they used on that console to make some kind of shield!
I did not expect this kind of review from you, psgels.
psgels decides to malign the episode entirely rather than admit, “I’m fatigued on this show so its going on hiatus.”
Judging the episode by the quality of the story? Nope.
How it was adapted? Animation? None of that
Let’s bitch about how I already watched it and how I don’t like the ending song.
full-retard mode activated…
Like everyone else has already mentioned, this was a horribly biased review. Maybe something I would expect from just-created-an-anime-blog psgels, but definitely not current psgels.
Ouch at the replies, but yeah, I agree, and youve made this “mistake” before as well on this show
I dont really understand the problem…I didnt find it boring in the slightest, but I also have no problem with training arcs, its kinda like why MMOs are so addictive… I love seeing the characters learning new moves and becoming more powerful
Remember, no matter how smart HxH is, its still a shounen at its core
More interesting is the fact that in the new OP, their greed island teacher (the old girl that looks young, dont remember her name) has blonde hair rather than orange one, wtf?
Either way Im excited, it wont be long until we hit new content… Considering how big the chimera arc is, if they go up to the election we will probably have HxH for another full year at least
That’d be Bisuke. I was pretty shocked at how childish she looks, considering….
I quite like this training arc, but really it’s nothing to write home about. The original dragged quite a lot too, hoping it gets condensed a fair bit.
I haven’t seen the previous anime, so this episode wasn’t exceptional but entertaining to me, an introduction to what is coming.
I’m disappointed with this review… 🙁
The funny thing is you giving higher score to those shitty SAO episodes.
SAO is my most hated show in a long time. All the praise or tolerance of it is alien to me, so I agree.
I haven’t seen the GI part of the original anime, (only seen the Hunter Exam Arc) nor the OVA and the manga. For me this episode was good, it wasn’t boring and I haven’t felt any dragging along the way.
In my opinion though I still don’t like “Departure” as the OP song, but the OP Animation fits well with it this time. The ED was okay. Looking forward for the next episodes 😀
Ending 2: fantastic. Ending 3: utter crap. blegh. It’s about time for a new OP as well..
Guys, do you know the title of ending song? Liked it very much.
I hate to break it to you, psgels, but Greed Island is basically a training montage in the manga and is probably going to be a training montage in this anime.
Hello,
I am writing a paper for my English class on a subculture that is not familiar to me. Because i don’t know much about anime i chose the anime subculture/group. i was hoping that anyone or everyone on this blog could tell me what they like about anime, why they like it, and what it means to them. i need to know what it is like to be part of the anime subculture. All comments are appreciated.
Thank you very much.
I…what? I don’t think watching foreign cartoons counts as a subculture.
It is difficult to be discriminated against by your peers with racial epithets like “weaboo” and “anime faggot”.
Good ol’ psgels does it again.
This adaptation of the Greed Island arc will be buildup for the fantastic Chimera Ant arc. I don’t want to give away too much, but the narrator is right in saying that “the two boys are about to undergo a new awakening.”
Specifically, you’ll see changes in the protagonists that were not as apparent in Nippon Animation’s adaptation of the Greed Island arc. Gon and Killua will develop as characters and their personalities will change.
Look at Gon’s expressions in the newest ending theme and the fierce clenching of his fist. Does this seem like the boy from the child-friendly Hunter Exam arc? In prior entries, you called him both “childish” and “cartoonish”… well, that may change.
It’s all in the climax. If you appreciated how Madhouse ended the Heavens Arena arc (namely, the tension that exploded and concluded in its final two episodes), wait and see how they do Greed Island.
With all the Sh%tt@ new Shows this season, maybe psgels should pick up HxH again :D,up till now it’s better than the original OVA’s and better than most of the new shows, while I agree it can be boring watching the same storyline again, I must say that I still enjoy the different take of MADHOUSE!
