Okay, normally I don’t do news-dedicated posts, but this really is a great piece of news.
According to this link, there is a chance that Higurashi won’t be getting a second season, but an entire remake. Full details aren’t yet known, but if the creators actually are planning to do the entire first six arc over once more, they must have realized the major flaws of the first season: the horrible animation. With a bit of luck, there will be actually room for the final two arcs to be animated as well. I can’t wait. ^_^
All I’m hoping is that this news doesn’t turn out to be false.
a second season would own, but there wouldn’t be enough material for another season. so i guess it’ll have to be a remake
Well, if the seventh and eighth arc both would take up 6 episodes, it could have been possible to have a 12-episode season. But whatever it may become, I’m definitely going to watch it. 🙂
I do believe there is enough material for a full second season – in addition to the already available remaining 2 arcs from the original PC game there are also additional THREE in the PS2 port. 5 full arcs could be enough for a full season.
But whatever’s clever for them – I’m waiting for the announcement. 🙂
There’s actually a compelling opening left for a 2nd season after that dodgy season 1 ending? Whoa!
Still a remake for an anime that just aired last spring seems strange.I mean who’ll watch it and buy the new dvd besides fans?
By the way am I the only one thinking that the bad animation was in fact a plus for Higurashi?
I don’t know about others, but I’m still of the opinion that the bad animation failed to bring out the best of the characters, whenever they went berserk. In any case, it indeed does make sense that it’s a bit too early for a remake, I agree with that. Does that mean that we’re really getting a second season?
Seeing as how the art in the game is fucking horrrrrrible, i dont see how anyone can complain about the art in the show, atleast its better then that shit. As for a remake, there goes any reason to watch any of it otehr then near the end. The only good thing about the show was the mystery and wondering wtf was going on and how, if you knew the story already, it would be animated…..but other then that the show isnt something id sit thru again this soon. But i would watch the last two arcs once it got to them i guess =/
It has been annoucend officialy: a second season in 2007,I hope it will be this spring.
Me too. The sooner, the better. The question also remains: which arcs will be included? The Minagoroshi-hen and the Matsuribayashi-hen will definitely be included, but what about the three arcs kacpy mentioned?
There is a huge possibility that they will be included since the ps2 game will come soon and is already very awaited in japan. And it’s usual there to powerup the charts with an anime adaptation like they did for utawarerumomo, tsuyokiss…etc
Plus it’s said that one of these arc would be the true ending of the story, and I really wouldn’t want to miss it 🙂
I liked the animation style… It was really gritty and fitting of the atmosphere. The actual drawing quality, I will admit, might have been sub-par, but if you realize how hard it is to animate something so fluidly, you have to give them credit.
I hope the next season ends on a less cliche note, however. In my mind… I imagine that Rena did die… But my grotesque, morbid mindset aside, I don’t think a “everybody lives happily ever after” final episode is fitting of such an anime, even if it wasn’t the real ending.
Flame away… -_-
Well, according to the last TIP of the sixth arc, Rena did die, along with all the other Hinamizawa residents during the volcanic gas eruption. I actually thought that the sixth arc had a nice ending, considering that it isn’t the actual ending of the anime. I’m not sure how the creators are planning to end this, though. Based on the contents of arc seven and eight, it can become pretty interesting.
