Short Synopsis: Keiichi and the others go to the pool
Episode Rating: 7,5/10 (There are going to be five episodes of this!?)
Uh… yeah. Here I was expecting Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei to deliver some more background information about the series, flesh some more characters out and all… yeah.
In the end, this turns out to be more Arusu The Adventure: random stories involving the lead characters. This one had everyone and his dog chase after Keiichi’s swimming trunks because it was supposedly cursed. In the end, the only clue that we have that it was indeed cursed was the word of the one who sold it to him.
In any case, the episode was as hilarious as it was disturbing (try to imagine Tomitake and Oshii in the pool….), and the thing turned into a huge self-parody. Interestingly, the original director didn’t return to the director seat, but instead the one who did the series composition created this… thing. And to think that there are four more episodes left!
On a completely different note, though: that OP rocked. It doesn’t quite beat the original OP of the first season, but I’m glad to see that it’s still experimenting with different exotic instruments and sounds. It works really well in this case.
There are 3 arcs in Rei OVA so I don’t think they will all be like this episode but still I am glad this series returned ^_^
Having just finished Kai, I’m glad to have more Higurashi to look forward to, even if it’s just goofy pool adventures (… for now).
The next arc is a serious one, consisting of episodes 2-4. Ep 5 I think is another goofy one.
For now, all I can do is twiddle my thumbs and wait until subs come out.
Subs FUCKING where ?
I didn’t expect something like that in the first ep as well ( some disappointment at first), but I think the passage with the pool is similar to games they used to play at school and all, so I have no doubt about it returning to horror in the other eps ( and be as good!), it was indeed good to have this series back after all this unbearable wait!!!!! By the way, there also the movies of Higurashi ( don’t know if you have seen it, I liked it a lot!), the second should be released on May 2009!
Although I still haven’t seen the episode myself…I’m guessing that this is one of the “fool” episodes that always appeared in the first season. They are to deceive you, so when the serious stuff comes round, it’s a surprise X) If my theory is correct, then the next one should go back to the old Higurashi ways 🙂
umm there’s no need to wonder ’cause Ithink 4 eps are enough for 2 more arc.

and “Daybreak Chapte” which is also “for fun” arc. Unfortunately there’s no more arc so anime ends with it. Now all we have to wait is Umineko ^^
