Misunderstandings in anime are annoying. Especially when they can be solved by just… talking to each other. Unfortunately this episode didn’t escape that. What’s worse, is that the creators tried to hide the fact that Tohru was just filling in for a day, yet it was obvious from the start that nothing was going on. Seeing this only fueled up by the novellist, who was the most annoying character of this series anyway, made things even worse.
At least this episode fleshed out Minko and Ohana. This arc established Minko’s character as a hard-working yet lovestruck girl, and it developed the friction between her and Ohana better, and we also have a good basis for a romance as well. Ohana also finally sent a message to her boyfriend as well, so it’s not like this episode was wasted.
What I want to see right now is variety: instead of making the next episode focus on romance yet again, make it focus on something completely different again. The bets example of this was the transition between episodes 2 and 3.
Rating: * (Good)
The misunderstanding was made all the more enjoyable by the fact that we DID know what was going on the whole time, IMO. I, for one, had a huge grin on my face literally the whole ep. This one was almost up to par with the first two episodes.
I thought this episode was pretty cool. Who knows? Perhaps maybe things will change in future episodes. But one thing’s for sure: If Minko seriously DOESN’T change her attitude toward Ohana in the next 5 or so episodes, I’m pretty much done with her. Why would she hate Ohana so much when she hasn’t even known her until now? What did Ohana ever do to her (before she came to Kissuiso) that was so bad?
“Especially when they can be solved by just… talking to each other. ”
That’s the characters first reaction “let’s ask him”
But Tohru wasn’t there
So what do they Ohana do?Goes to the inn to talk to him.Problem solved.
The bigger missunderstanding that might come out of this is Tohru thinking Ohana did this because she’s the girl from the inn that likes him the most, when in fact she was just doing it for Minko.
This isn’t like some kind of missunderstanding that lasted forever,it lasted like half a day.
I think this episode was pretty good. I really Minko, however, I want to know more about her. Why she is so angry and stuff.
Ohana’s advice was all terrible. And her actions stupid. I hope you all never do what she did in real life.
oh come on minko is just tsundere. plus she probably felt too shy to just suddenly be nice to ohana when she started off the way she did. obviously it is going to take some time, but you can bet she’s going to be nice a few more episodes in.
I’m on the fence with this show. If it wasn’t so pretty, I would be far less forgiving. I just can’t take it as lightly or seriously as it wants to be taken at any given time. The scenario isn’t selling itself as “kids over-reacting to mundane situations” so much as “anime characters over-reacting to anime situations”, and it’s left me a bit underwhelmed. Maybe it just feels like it’s forcing sincerity, I don’t know.
I have to agree to @Hogart there. The production values in this show is probably all that props this show up, which is a real shame considering the premise of the series had potential for actually some decent, solid scriptwriting.
IMO misunderstandings in anime are annoying because it is washed out and overly simplified for the sake of reaching to the common denominator. It does not feel real and carry enough emotional weight that comes with these situations. And I think this might be where Anohana performs better.
hmm, yes, there might be a different love triangle developing around ohana, minchi and tohru.
I spaced out through most of this. It’s probably the most unnecessary episode thus far, continuing a story dynamic that’s long run its course.
At least the characters seem to have recovered from their fall in episode 3.
Hm… I thought this episode was okay. Only thing I don’t like about this series is that teenager girls are always shouting at each other every episode, especially Ohana and Minchi. I’d like the next episode to build up drama more subtly
