Gundam 00 – 24

I’m not sure whether I should be happy or not to have been spoiled about the contents of this episode. In any case, I was right, and this episode basically built up for the major turning-point for this series that’ll happen in episode 25, but I never thought that it’d do this in such an extreme way.

There were several things wrong with this episode, though. And I’m not referring to the bloodbath. If the circumstances are right, then why not kill off a bunch of characters? It’s a great contrast with series that are just too afraid to kill off their characters because it’ll upset the fans or something. Just to give a small list of who died in this episode (obvious SPOILER warning)

– Tieria Erde
– Patrick Colasour
– Christina Sierra
– Lichtendahl Tsery

Which, if I’m not mistaken, brings the total body-count to ten important characters dead, eleven if Ali al Sarshes kicked the bucket as well.

In any case, my problem isn’t with these deaths. It’s with the sudden uber-technologies that suddenly got introduced out of nowhere. Okay, I can understand why Aeolia Scheinberg never put the Trans-am in his plans. It makes sense that he and his scientists discovered this technology at one point, but decided not to implement it due to the potential dangers of its limited usage. I can live with that.

But where did he pull such a huge space-ship from, and why the heck didn’t he use it?! With such a big cannon, it would have been perfect as an added safety-measure. Really, if the creators wanted, they could have used much better reasons to kill off the members of the cast. The enemies are really no idiots, and I could imagine a few sneaky battle-tactics that would have destroyed the Ptolemy anyway.

And this is just a minor detail, but Lichtendahl was badly developed. I only now realize this once he’s dead, but we should have gotten an introduction that androids or cyborg actually exist. The lieutenant… I still have no idea whether she was a cyborg as well, or just genetically modified. Before this episode, we hardly saw anything about him, which makes his death lack the impact it could have had.

But on the positive side: there was no Saji!

It really seems that Marina Ismael and Saji were meant to be characters for the second season. The next episode will probably kill off much more people, making the Celestial Beings disband without a doubt, and the survivors will probably be the main characters for the second season. Setsuna is the only one where I can say with certainty that he’ll live, as Allelujah also looked pretty bad in this episode.

This is just a guess, but it seems quite likely that the main characters for the second season will be Nena, Setsuna, Marina and Saji, with the major villains being Alehandro and Ali. Of course, there’ll probably be much more characters introduced, but I’m worried: these four are the most immature members of the entire cast. My biggest worry right now is that every sensible member of the cast will get killed off in the next episode. Please make at least one of Sumeragi, Feldt, Lasse or that mechanic-guy survive!

  1. The golden MA has nothing to do with the main Celestial Being organisation. It belongs to Corner, who only had access to the inferior GN-Drive Tau. To compensate, he plugged 6 Tau Drives into his golden MA.

Corner was a part of the “Observers”, a fringe group who’s job was to keep CB in check. Corner’s family had been working towards highjacking CB for years, and this is the end result. Whatever Corner did had nothing to do with the original CB.

  2. Um, Tieria isn’t dead – yet at least. I actually doubt he will die either. Although I am worried bout Allelujah possibly kicking the bucket next episode.

Don’t know who else will die, obviously, but I can see Sumeragi and Felt surviving, but Lasse I kind of don’t think so. In regards to Lichtendahl – I think showing that he was an android was also purely done for something or someone in the future, and don’t think it was exclusive to him as a character (kind of with Soma and Allelujah, as Soma as a character is kind of useless so far as well, imo).

I agree that Marina and Saji were meant for season 2, with the first season only developing the things that will allow season 2 to use them the way they are supposed to be meant (which I think is pretty clever, despite disliking Saji).

Finally, I wonder what’ll happen with Graham, hopefully he’ll show up after some time off.

  3. If by “lieutenant” you mean Soma, then she’s just genetically engineered. I believe she does have nanomachines implanted into her body to help her function better in space, but other than that she’s a flesh-and-blood human.

Also, Tieria isn’t dead – Nadleeh is just heavily damaged. And I refuse to believe that Patrick is dead, too, but that’s probably just me in denial. xD; But yeah, Tieria’s alive.

  4. Apart from Patrick, Christina and Cyborg Kung and some grunts, no one else die.

Tierra is alive and kicking, his suit is very well intact apart from some limbs blew up.

  5. Ah, my mistake. I really thought that they both killed each other at the same time. 😛

Oh, and sorry about the spam-filter of Blogsome acting up again. Your comments should be fixed now.

  6. As long as Exia takes care of MA. I don’t think GN-X will have energy to finish off CB as they still have armor hanger to fight. There should be around 4 GN-X unites left.

  7. Man!…another good episode…as with most of you i am surprised that the body count was so high….and i am really at a loss to see how the remaining characters are going to survive this whole clustermush…Which brings me to why i love this series so…I just have no clue how it will go for the most part! 🙂 Looking forward to the finale…it will be bitter sweet for sure…

  8. Alejandro’s family was getting ready for this for god knows how many years. If he had the resources to pull out 30 Gn-Tau drives out of his ass, I don’t see the reason why could not he pull out 7 more. After all, when you think – Golden did not show anything new to us, its just everything we have seen with ridiculous strength of 7 GN-tau drives.

As for lycht – it was said in this ep that he and his family was involved in Solar Wars. In process he lost all his family and a lot of body parts which were replaced by cybernetic technology.

For survival – I doubt that Lasse would survive. If not die, then I think that there’s high probability for him get injured A HECK A LOT. Maybe he will get some body parts replaced with cyber stuff too? xD

I can’t see Tieria dieing yet – he had no character development and NO flashbacks.

As for All/hall – with inevitable fight between him and Soma I foresee the similar destiny to one character in Zeta…

Alejandro just strikes as mid-boss – I still think that Livonze is just using him for his own things.

Predictions on who will die next episode: Papa Bear and/or Soma, Alejandro, Alelujah(if not dead then “fried”)

  9. One fantastic episode indeed ^_^

Still i find Setsuna very annoying and wish for his character to evolve and change ( probably that’s Marina’s role in Season 2 ) !!!

As for the deaths … even for underdeveloped characters the situation on the bridge ( the death of the two crew members ) was so touching and very well animated … my .. that was heart wrenching XD

As for the second season characters … well Setsuan and Marina or course … Saji and louise … The Observers and their Corner … the HRL girl ( rather underdeveloped until now .. why am i thinking there could be something between her and Teiria in season 2 .. maybe it is just me XD )!!!

But why did everyone forget Graham .. he is a potential player in the second season for sure .. and his absence in the last few episodes is a sign of a great come back either at the last episode (25) or at the beginning the second season !!!!!

  10. i agree!one of the best episodes so far. so many deaths give the story a very original twist(not certain as i haven’t seen every other series)

it’s a bit sudden how lichty was an android. did i miss anything vital that was said bout him in previous episodes? and what’s up with tht block of gold?where did that monster come from????

is everyone aware that exia has some new super armour?(avalanche exia) i’m eager to see some of that!knowing that, setsuna must survive, h alelujah (best pilot) will probably kill every1, who cares about tieria? and what of the tomely?i recon nena saves her love setsuna but god!so many possible outcome!!!!

    most definitely a good episode

  11. chances are you will never see avalanche exia because its MSV, generally MSV stuff almost never makes it into the actual anime but one can still hope.

  12. I had seem this 24 for a few times and i still can’t believe that so many good guys gone and the odd against them are so great. Is like when they got to use Trans Am, the next thing was the enemy got numbers and tech tics on their hand.

of cause, don’t forget good guys only have four gundam which i have not see any new up coming.

anyway, how to see 25 as it mark the end of session 1.

  13. Um… Tieria didn’t die yet. His MS is just heavily damaged.

I never expected Alejandro Corner to go up against Celestial being like that. It’s so frustrating that this is only half way through.. and now (erm after next week) there’ll be a break.

By the way: what the hell is Saji’s role in the anime? That of being Setsuna’s neighbour?! Because aside from angsting and pissing everyone off I don’t see it…
