Whoa, this really was one of the best FMA episodes we’ve seen for quite a while now. It’s great to see this series fired up again. There were a lot of great things that happened in this episode.
First of all: Hohenheim’s background. We learn that he put forth that scary look of his on purpose. It’s interesting that he didn’t realize what kind of effect this would have on Ed. Why he did that, I’m not yet sure, but I think it’s pretty obvious right now that he holds some sort of Philosopher’s stone. In fact, I believe it to be created from those children we saw him with during the recap episode. What’s also interesting is that he actually discovered Father’s plans, while Ed was spying on him, thinking that he was just busy with another one of his experiments. But there’s still so much about this guy that still needs to be revealed, though. I’d love to see an episode dedicated to when he met his um… wife. (Did they ever get properly married anyway?)
The part where Olivia killed off Raven was also really well delivered, it’s amazing how good of an actor Olivia turned out to be, although it’s a bit of a shame that they had to resurrect Sloth in order to get the right information out of him, but at least she now has confirmed that the military is up to something huge.
Also, Wrath is getting more and more scarier in the way that he keeps using Winry as a hostage, when he actually invites her to Briggs in this episode, as his way of saying “don’t try anything stupid”. I must say, that even though I disliked her at first, this is a very plausible reason for her to get involved with the main plot. Instead of the first series in any case, in which she just… appeared and never really left for God knows which reason?
Rating: ** (Excellent)
Ignore the recap episode it was completely filler and has nothing to do with the real story.
I always loved the scene when Olivier killed Raven because it shows that her tough talk isn’t just talk. 🙂
hmm…you did not say anything about the shadow in the tunnel? anyway next episode is gonna be sweet!
No, Hohenheim and Trisha never bothered to get married
Nope, they were never properly married. I don’t remember if he said it in Brotherhood but when Ed and Al met Father and Father found out they were Hohenheim’s kids but their last name was Elric, Ed said, “Elric is my mother’s name! My father and mother never married!”
The tunnel scene… looks like the last character is going to appear soon before New Year I guess. Olivier’s bursts of violence is always fun to watch. But geez the anime sure as gotten quite close to the manga in terms of material… somewhat worisome seeing as while it may be indicating an ending it doesn’t seem soon as the author takes her time.
That scene where Olivier disposes Raven is quite enjoyable. You could see that Olivier has been itching to do it since the meeting.
@Machi
yeah, I wonder if the manga will end before the end of Brotherhood. It seem like there could be more than 10 chapters until the series is finished.
Well, they’re no doubt in close contact with Hiromu Arakawa. If they are going to run into problems towards the end, then surely they already know about it and are making plans.
The manga is close enough to the end that there’s likely an issue by issue outline of the remainder, even if most isn’t written yet.
So at the very least, they should know how many months are left of the manga. From there, they just have to adjust the pacing/breaks. We’ll likely see at least one more recap episode, but overall I’m confident that they’ll be ok.
Yeah the recap was nice but it was all filler and I can safely say that those children and people around the bonfire are not in a philosophers stone considering the woman speaking with Hohenhiem was Pinako, who is alive as are most of the children shown there. The little girl I’m guessing was suppost to be Trisha
Just in case you missed it, there is a scene after the ending song.
You’ll see who are inside Hohenheim when you see his entire past flashback.
The recap wasn’t pointless filler; it was canon and it showed a deep insight on where Hohenheim’s thoughts really are. I enjoyed that episode.
The after ED scene kicks off the 3rd parallel arc of FMA. Roy has a lot of catching up to do! 😉
Oh boy, oh boy, I’m so excited for the next episode! I’ve been waiting forever for this ^^
Raven got owned so bad. It was actually pretty amusing.
