This episode of Fire Force…was all over the place. I can’t decide if the show loses points for being so absurd or gains them back for being self-aware. At any rate, we have some back stabbing, some donkey riding, and … Shinra, you’re killing me here.
Fire Force picks back up at the Vulcan trash dump where Shinra’s started listening to the voices in his head…which actually turn out to be accurate. Also, let’s get this out of the way – Shinra is actually the dumbest person in this episode. Not Arthur (but it was close). Shinra, despite being able to hear other Fire users’ thoughts, gets caught in the most obvious trap ever. I guess that’s the difference between a rookie and a captain, but yikes – that one was painful.
Speaking of obvious, the moment the flashbacks with family and all started, it was blatantly clear Lisa was a traitor. However, I’m pretty sure she’s going to revert to good, but we’ll see. Also, I’m pretty sure the key is the fun little Planet Earth thing that Giovanni just smashed, but nothing obvious flew out, so we’ll also wait on that.
And finally – the moment we’ve all been waiting for: Arthur and his steed. I…couldn’t believe it. Is there any adult supervision present for this show? What’s even more amazing is how only Arthur seems fooled…and even then he comes around, thankfully. It’s so absurd, that you know what – it worked for me. That was a gag that truly caught me off guard. Well done, Fire Force…I guess?
In terms of the big picture, the Evangelist war is still raging, and Vulcan’s family issues are just a pretense for Shinra + Little White Brother. Really, this episode was terribly disjointed but did make me laugh out loud from pure shock.
And let’s everyone take a moment for the fallen steed Silver….
