Mario: If you ever wonder what is the current state of anime right now, well look no further than this final season of the 2010s as the Anime Goddess has offered us … half a dozen isekai shows. To be fair though, I have a feeling we’re reaching the post-isekai era where these shows appear to poke fun at the genre’s usual tropes (whether they’re actually funny is another topic). I also regard this season as a late bloomer, given how all these good shows aired at the tail end of our impressions (with several sequels still to come). Nevertheless, we’ve got our traditional First Episode Awards right down below, along with the blogging schedule for this Fall. With Armitage taking a seasonal hiatus and Aidan briefly coming back for more battles in space, this season we writers also aim to make a weekly summary where we can chime in on shows that aren’t receiving regular coverage. Enjoy the last breeze of the decade, folks.

Can’t believe I am classifying 3 shows this season as “taking it easy”. Ill be ready for Winter though!
Winter is looking kinda meh, which is good, because we spend part of it doing the year-end list. The only shows of interest to me are Haikyuu 4, Dorohedoro, the Madoka spinoff, and Yuasa’s new show about an anime club (yes, really). I’m sure a couple things will surprise us, though.
Thanks for doing this! Too many isekais lols. I’m excited to watch Beastars though.
Mairimashita! Iruma-kun is so good. Its not as under the radar as Hoshiai no Sora but it deserves to get more viewers. Heck I wouldn’t be watching it if somebody didn’t recommend it in the comments.
I’m planning to write a little something about it each week in a summary post, where we’ll also mention stuff like Blade of the Immortal and Kabukichou Sherlock. Lots of good stuff this season, even outside of the many sequels and continuations we’re blogging.
OreSuki worst first episode award? Seriously? Did any of you actually watch the entire episode? 🙂
MAL ratings: 64% 5/5, 25% 4/5
I still haven’t seen the entire thing, but you’d better believe I voted for it, fairness be damned. So did one other person, which was enough for a majority in a four person pool. Mario gave it a vote for “Exceeded Expectations,” so our writers are split on the show.
MAL is irrelevant. This is an opinion-driven blog; a giant database like that fails even to transmit a point of view. If a mass audience likes the show, that’s awesome. Myself and one other writer here didn’t.
With only 4 of us, and a split vote, such are the woes of Democracy my friend.
Hey, whatever you say. If your self-esteem doesn’t require you to watch an entire episode before you cast your verdict, more power to you.
Just pointing out that the point of the first half of the episode was to play up all the tired tropes to the max, and then tear things down in the second half. And it seems clear that you missed the second half.
Thankfully, my self-esteem isn’t tied to my anime viewing habits.
I’m glad you guys liked my “most unique art” suggestion from the summer.
I was planning to stay away from Beastars since it looked like furry-bait, but I’ll give it a shot after reading your reviews.
Honestly? It still kinda is furry bait. Its the Zootopia movie, if they had actually killed someone. That said, it’s also studio Orange, who did Houseki. So its gonna look good, the soundtrack is great and I wanna stick with it if only for the animation.
