Now this was a big episode! It completely changed the plot and setting and after this, the series will look completely different. This is really what this show needed to make it even better and it’s a wonderful twist to prevent it from getting stale near the end.
I generally dislike “let us adults sacrifice ourselves for the younger generation”-twists, however in the context of this series it fits perfectly. The themes have always been that children should be protected, even if they’re the only ones able to pilot mechas, and that’s exactly what happened here. On top of that the creators went even further by giving the kids a good excuse to be the central focus of the plot: it’s exactly because they have been protected and bear no responsibility for the actions of these adults, that they’re able to be free in stopping the real threat: the Scab Coral.
And yeah: Generation Blue has been disbanded because it has been causing too much trouble and acted way too much behind the scenes. Beyond that Fleur got some really good development out of everything, Elena finally came clean with her story (what the hell has Eureka been doing?!), and Truth also is moving more and more away from the perfect villain that he was when he was first introduced. He may not be dead (unfortunately, I have seen too much anime at this point to know the trick of that cliff-hanger), but even considering that, his role in this series has been completely changed after this episode.
Rating: 6/8 (Awesome)
Really strong episode. Going back to the beginning of the series we never would have imagined Generation Bleu would fall so hard and fast. Not only that, it’s done from numerous independent forces: the Americans, Truth, and Christoph himself (through his “mistakes”) all contribute to its demise.
One minute the kid pilots are relaxing in their cushy quarters, the next, their entire lives have been turned upside down. The depth of mystery in this series is such that even all the revelations this week (or confirmation of revelations previously uncovered) don’t paint the whole picture of what exactly is going on or how to proceed, which is good.
We’ll certainly see what roles Ao, Fleur and Elena take one. They all come from very different places and have very different goals. Will they help each other out, or part ways and pursue their own interests? What will become of what’s left of Truth? Whither Eureka? Even though we know it’s not happening, this is the kind of episode that presents a good case for 50 episodes.
The main problem with eureka seven ao, aside from other abysmal issues, is that it keeps changing its direction. It’s like having a “writer-of-the-week” sort of thing. Every week there is this new plot that bears no connections to all the previous episodes. Especially this episode where those people at the spacestation died, I was like wtf really? And then what’s more wtf is that nobody in the show actually showed any remote sign of sadness. It’s like “yeah they died but we have so many other plots so let’s just move to the next plot quickly”.
I hope they will change the name of the show to something else without the word Eureka in it because it’s tarnishing the good name of the real “Eureka Seven”.
Watch psgels still give this 82,5 or so despite its terribleness.
more like 92.5 seeing how many 6/8 he has given to this embarassment from BONES.
Oh no he has a different opinion on the show that you do…
o no someone has a different opinion than psgel…
Oh no….I have nothing to say really I just wanted to be part of the trend 😐
*Cool-aid guy busts through the wall*
OH YEAHHH!!
Can we discuss this without attacking psgels? Thanks.
I sort of agree, I think in the last month I got really disconnected from the plot. I think what they were(are?) going for is the kind of mysterious and weird plot that seems incoherent but somehow makes sense at the end. It worked for me for a while, but then I started getting tired of plot points that seem major but don’t go anywhere. There has been a ton of ideas in the series but they are all shallow, they are introduced and then they are barely explored further.
I also don’t think the characters react… “properly” (for lack of better word) to what happens. Big example in this is the spacestation… It was brushed quickly and then settled with stock lines like “I don’t know is they are dead but I know I’ll never forgive whoever did this”…
That lack of proper reaction has made the characters weird for me, I can’t relate to any of them and I hardly care at this point. Frankly the only character I somewhat care about is Ivicha but his character can be summed up as “father figure”.
The series can somehow still redeem itself (for me at least), but it has to close off with a really strong/ending.
I must add, I also didn’t like the “Truth” plotline in this episode. I felt cheated. “Truth” has been built up like this badass villain that holds all the answers (being able to see the truth of the world), I think the series was clearly building him up as someone who held all the answers, all knowing and all powerful. And then this episode revealed that he actually knows much less than the rest of the cast…
It’s kind of like having a character going all “You fool you don’t understand what you are doing! You know nothing!” and then when asked “What do I not know?” he responds “Oh I have no idea either…”.
right about “truth”…I can understand a sequel being unique in its own way, but to have some superhuman being in the Eureka7’s universe, I mean really? Which character from the original Eureka has this kind of superhuman abilities? It’s like Superman meets Doraemon! Totally ridiculous!
Truth (n.):
A Scabbed-over Secret living a lie (TM)
I’m glad this show is reserved. Truth’s truth kept Secret until his chick peels off the Scabs, and all that.
btw I didn’t attack Psgel just to make it clear.
Oh look, I can use Chinese Kanji too! Im sPeCiaL!
From the tone of your previous posts, you seem like you were bashing psgels for his opinion. Thats the only reason people are calling you on your shit. If you really didn’t mean to bash psgels, then your posts wouldn’t have come off like that and you would be looking like such a tryhard.
The main problem with anime watchers, aside from other abysmal issues, is that they seem to direct their most passionate hate towards shows that they continue watching, as if their continued disapproval is going to warp reality and make the show more to their liking. Another possibility is that you are incredibly masochistic, but if that were the case, why don’t you do something more conventional like bash your head against the wall or read election coverage? How about you stop drinking that haterade and do something you actually find enjoyable?
I learned a new term recently. It’s called “hate-watching”. 🙂
I don’t hate Eureka Seven AO, I’m just starting to get indifferent about it.
Should you let a Secret go down the Terminal Dogma, the third impact will inevitably occur.
Oops… Wrong series…
Ahm, did someone else get the EVA/Lilith reference Elena made when she was talking about the stuff that’s usually hidden in the basements of organizations like Generation Blue XD
Loved that, it’s so true in so many shows with these kinds of organizations good or bad 🙂
Speaking of which, I heard the last screenshot is actually a reference to NGE as well, but for the life of me I do not know it. Could anyone enlighten me?
Was a great episode. Got me interested again.
