Ah, there are two movies going to be released. That means three, possible four more hours for this show to tell its story (unless they pull a Death and Rebirth), which really should be enough time for this show. Overall though, this series didn’t turn out as good as I hoped it would be. My biggest issue with the show is that my favourite episode still is the first one.
Still, this episode was a pretty decent ending until the movies. There were some things I didn’t understand, though. Why did Akira feel the need to wipe his own mind again? How and why did he get all of the NEET to access the Higashi no Eden site and take pictures of Akira, protecting them from the missile attack? Why did the creators find it necessary to bring Pantsu back to life? After spending all of his money on becoming king, and getting rid of his cell phone, isn’t he supposed to die?
In any case, as it turns out the reason why Akira wiped his own memory was because he kept getting accused of being the one behind the missile attacks (because he knew that they were going to happen), and so he at one point couldn’t take the accusations anymore and decided to travel to America and mind-wipe himself. That’s totally different from the crazy Japanese terrorist that I originally believed him to be.
Overall, it’s been fun, and although I can’t say that this has been my favourite show this season I definitely enjoyed watching this. It’s a bit of a wait until the movies are released, but in the meantime I’m looking forward to see what Noitamina has in store for us next.
Rating: * (Good)
Lotsa Johnnies and a pretty nice cliff-hanger for the upcoming movies.
Did Juiz really wipe his memories at the end? (It at least wasn’t what Akira asked for, given that he asked for something quite different.) For all we know, Akira may have been hypnotized (by whatever center whose name I can’t remember) to believe himself the son of the emperor.
What’s next in store is Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, a Bones/Kinema Citrus collaboration=. I’m certainly looking forward to it.
On the flipside, the Noise slot is being taken over by Aoi Hana, which is by the author of Hourou Musuko – an excellent manga, if I may say so myself.
I also don´t think he wiped his memories again
Well, since I´m a big fan of romance, I hope he didnt, or else he would forget abot Saki..
I don’t think his memories were wiped. If he had no memories there would be no reason to slip his cellphone into Saki’s jacket pocket as to him she would have been a totally random girl he would have just met.
He might have erased his memories. My brother and I are debating whether or not that sound on Akira’s phone (before Akira leaves the phone in Saki’s pocket) either signify a) Akira’s memory wipe or b) the sound of him losing all his money. I think he erased his memories, but I’m not quite sure it’s safe for Akira to leave his phone w/ Saki (since the Supporter will probably come looking for him), but since Akira is gonna be the “king of the country,” I guess it’s okay.
Oh, um Akira and the NEETs were able to protect Japan from the missiles b/c the NEETs were sending Akira via phone their best ideas on how to stop the missiles into the Eden of the East thing, and then Akira told Juiz the best idea to use.
As for Pantsu, yeah, I’m not quite sure why they kept him alive… Maybe he has a role for the movie(s)? And maybe, just maybe, if Akira became the best Messiah and “wins the game,” he won’t be killed? Maybe.
Haha, sorry for the long comment, but I was still hyped from watching the last episode. XD
I actually think the sound of the cell phone at the end was Akira’s memories being restored. What if his memories weren’t properly erased, but simply repressed? The sound could be a trigger to bring them back.
While I am a fan of this site, I grimace each time you make an incorrect interpretation of major plot points in different series. Failure to understand key points would obviously affect your scoring.
BTW, that was a feather representing a caged bird (the computer girl) in Shangri-La, NOT A LEAF, if the cage theme wasn’t obvious enough in the climbing bars and the building!
“Why did Akira feel the need to wipe his own mind again?”
His final command to Juiz before handing over the phone wasn’t revealed. It’s uncertain if he actually wiped it again or had himself reprogrammed some way.
“How and why did he get all of the NEET to access the Higashi no Eden site and take pictures of Akira, protecting them from the missile attack?”
An incorrect interpretation. *spoiler*
The Eden site seems to be well known among those people since it took off as a dating (and recycling?) site. He asked them to upload possible methods of countering the missles to the Eden site, then had Juiz process the responses and formulate a plan.
“Why did the creators find it necessary to bring Pantsu back to life?”
Might help to ask them directly. It’s plausible for him to survive, as the car didn’t appear to exceed 40 mph on impact. That’ll leave some fractures and some internal contusions but not necessarily a fatal injury.
“After spending all of his money on becoming king, and getting rid of his cell phone, isn’t he supposed to die?”
We never see if the transaction is actually logged. Therefore, it’s uncertain if he did spend the money (and/or how Juiz accepted and carried out his request, if she did). He doesn’t get rid of his cellphone but hands it to the girl for whatever reason. As I see it, two movies give the creators several possibilities. They can continue the story and answer some of your questions. Or (more likely), one will be used as a prequel, showing how Careless Monday occurred.
He definitely DIDN’T wipe our his memories. There was no need to. HE was really in despair that much at that time. (unless he was despaired from learning about his past, but he should know well that if he erased his memories, it wouldn’t help him.) Plus *spoiler*
In the commercial for the first movie, he is seen meeting and then saying “Whatcha doing?” [i think, my japanese isn’t really good] to Saki in New York. If he wiped his memories, how would he be able to know her? In the commercial for the second movie, he is also talking to Saki, this time, saying, “Sorry, Saki.” So I don’t think he wiped his memories.
*sigh* 3 year later, but it’s interesting to see ShyBlue’s speculation get blasted out of the water by the movie.
Properly interpolate, and you develop a true understanding a system.
His forgetting was the premise of the movie.
Extrapolate, and you show your understanding of a system to be truly that of a fool.
In ShyBlue’s case, the extrapolation AND assumption was that he DID know her, rather than any another possibility (she actively sought him out).
