Yup, this really is a calm-before-the-storm-episode. The pieces are set in the right spot for the finale, and the characters mourn about the things that happened in the previous episode. Finally, the parents of the different children decide to take away their glasses, because it’s now really clear that these things are dangerous. With Kanna and 4423, the details were vague, and most people just assumed that they just died, but it seems that Isako’s case went all over the news, and it’s finally become clear that the cyber-world isn’t something for children to play with.
A lot of time is also spent on Yasako, mourning about the loss of Densuke, and I loved the details put into it. Like everyone else, Yasako is really starting to doubt whether the cyber-world is real, and blames the fact that she can’t cry for Densuke on the fact that he’s just a bunch of codes, while in fact she still can’t accept that he’s gone. I think that that’s because she was surrounded by Isako and Haraken, who both lost someone important to them. For the past few episodes, we’ve seen how Yasako tried to help both of them recover from their troubles, though I think that she never really imagined how it must feel to lose a loved one. That’s what she finds out in this episode.
And ZOMG, I totally forgot about Mayumi! This series is very sneaky in that, mentioning things early in the series that only turn out important near the end of the series. Densuke being kidnapped, Yasako’s grandfather’s room and others are examples of this too, and it really took me a while to realize that Yasako actually DID have some problems in her previous school. According to Wao, she got into a fight with Mayumi. Yasako believes that Mayumi was the one who started bullying her, while it was in fact Yasako who started the bullying.
Another thing I loved about this episode, despite how quiet it was when compared to the other episodes of this series, was how I could relate to so many things. Okay, I may never have seen the death of a loved one, but I can understand Yasako in trying to relate to people who did experience it, because I’ve been doing that very often with different anime-series. It also felt really nostalgic when the parents started confiscating the glasses of their children. The story about Mayumi and the bullying also brought back memories. I think everyone has done some thing in their pasts that they aren’t quite proud of…]]>
Dennou Coil – A Circle of Children – 24
I’m thinking Nekome knew Yasako’s grandfather and has been trying to continue his research into denno coil. But since he doesn’t have imago himself he needs a medium, first he manipulated Tamako, then Kanna, and finally Isako.
I’m guessing Yasako is next.
It’s not really that Yasako did in fact bully Mayumi, but Mayumi says she did after Yasako says she forgives Mayumi for bullying *her*. Whether it’s true or just what Mayumi thinks will prolly be revealed in the next episode.
I’m guessing Yasako betrayed Mayumi or succumbed to peer pressure and abandoned her at a critical juncture.
Huh. So they cleverly misled us by having Yasako be ignorant of so many things when she arrived in Daikoku (kirabugs, illegals, Saachi, furui kuukan)… I assumed that she didn’t know anything about Michiko and the “other side” either. Silly me.
Anyhow, so back in Kanazawa Yasako already at least knew stories about Michiko. Her old friend Mayumi was scared by them. Probably Yasako was also. Although this episode didn’t exactly connect all the dots, it seems that Yasako and Mayumi once agreed to meet at an intersection in Kanazawa marked by the 4 manhole covers seen in the intro and also seen though the keyhole/entrace to the other side in previous episodes. We don’t yet know what happened there, but I’m guessing that the who-bullied-whom dialogue at the end refers to a joint dare to seek out Michiko at that 4-manhole intersection. Could it be that Yasako’s angou mark dates to that incident?
Meanwhile Isako is now installed in Room 4423 at the hospital, just as her brother had been. Coincidence?
Oh, and more evidence that Yasako’s grandfather deliberately left access open to her. We already knew that you could use someone else’s megane, but it required password access and seemed much like borrowing someone else’s PC to login to your own account. But if I understood correctly, when Yasako put on her grandfather’s megane it instead ran some sort of biometric scan and authorizes immediate access. So the glasses recognized her specifically. In which case probably Megabaa and any number of other trusted people (Nekome?) have been on that authorized access list since the beginning.
why is no one subbing the episodes anymore? Ureshii last released one 17 days ago and they are 4 episodes behind.

I really love Dennou Coil, and episode 24 is a great episode. It was really sad, and it is like you said, it brings up a lot of memories. For me, it was..Yasako dealing with Densuke’s passing. It just brought up old memories of when I lost a pet that was close to me, and I actually had to pause the episode and collect myself. I’ve never had to do this with an anime before.
