Dennou Coil – 22

That first half of the episode was just amazing. The dialogue between Yasako and Isako was just right, and I actually cried when Isako started to break down. Yasako really tried to comfort Isako in the way she would speak to Kyoko, whenever she’s scared. When Kyoko arrived, and asked Isako to save Densuke, she only made things even better. The rest of the episode built up for the final few episodes of this series. We get a few confirmations of things that the observant ones among us probably already figured out: Nekome and Takeru are brothers, Takeru is the owner of the pink cat with ears, and he basically betrayed Isako out of jealousy towards his brother. I’ve also been reading a few posts from animesuki, and it seems that the reason why Nekome has access to the stronger versions of the Sacchis is because he works for the government, and can basically use them as he pleases. Also, Densuke indeed is no ordinary dog. I couldn’t catch the details due to my lack of Japanese, but there actually is a chance for both Yasako’s grandfather as 4423’s brother to be alive. Yasako’s grandfather also seemed to know about 4423 before both of them disappeared. The final parts of the episode basically consist out of a chase for Densuke, after Nekome found out that he’s important somehow I must say that it was awesome to see Daiichi in action again. From what I understood is that Densuke is the key to access Coil’s domain, which is what I suspect to be the place where the humanoid illegals live. Hence why both Yasako and Kyoko encountered them. What’s also interesting is how Nekome refers to Yasako as “sensei”, and how a password to some of the guy’s secret stuff is located inside Nekome’s database. Does this mean that Yasako’s grandfather used to work for the same company that Nekome is working for?]]>

  1. Of course I meant 4423 himself… not his brother. 😛
Still, this is speculation, basically since the one who told Isako that 4423 is dead wasn’t the most trustworthy source (being Takeru and all).

  2. Nekome didn’t seem to be having much luck in trying to control the black automatons. He may have access to the system, but he’s not in control. He’s got his own agenda, though he may be trying to leverage a connection to the legal bureau to pursue it.
Yasako’s grandfather was a doctor in the MegaMass hospital, and was treating the first round of Coil victims. We knew that already, at least by implication. We didn’t know that 4423 was a medical case code, however. I wonder who the other case codes belong to.
Sheer speculation: Takome may himself have been one of the earlier coil victims saved by Yasako’s grandfather. He’s suspicious that MegaMass may have had a direct role in his doctor’s death, and has been trying to use Isako’s imago ability to try to track down his old doctor in the Coil Domain. Note that he didn’t even know about Yasako before this episode; if he had, he probably would have tried to work through her also, or instead. I’m guessing he’ll join the rest of the gang now, and the common enemy will be MegaMass.
Given that Yasuko’s father, grandfather, uncles, and various other older family members have MegaMass connections, she could probably pick up a lot of information by just asking. But it’s perfectly believable that it doesn’t occur to her.

  3. wao points out that the very first episode shows the 4423 medical code on the folder in the background, in the scene where Yasako first opens the package from her grandfather containing the Dennou glasses. So it’s like a good mystery story! They introduce the necessary clues early on, before you know to look for them. Now I have to go back and re-watch all the earlier episodes to see what else they may have left a clue for.
The biggest mystery for me is Isako’s background. Where did she learn to code? Where did she get her non-standard pets? Is she related to Yasako through some family connection, such that she might have got a gift from Yasako’s grandfather also?

  4. The very first series indeed shows many things, Nekome and Tamako appear as well =)
As far as I got it, Densuke and Isako’s Mojos are mentioned as “Coils life” and are probably a kind of real artificial life (unlike normal, simulated pets – automatons and petmatons) based on the same coil effect.
There was another name mentioned in the argument between Takeru and Nekome (even more siblings? Don’t tell me Isako will be related to someone too, she’s supposed ot be the lonely char here!) of someone who seems to be in control of those low-level format black automatons >_> Man, theyre scary. And their ability to transfer physical pain sensation back to a target’s via their imago doesn’t look like a space maintenance function, more like asassianation utility. Anyway, Megamass seems to be quite a shady illuminati-type organisation.

  5. So… Isako has brother-complex, huh?
My respect for her is now transforming into sappy sympathy… she needs to shape up again
