As much as I like this show, it does have its share of plotholes: Ganta hasn’t been eating any candy lately, has he? In fact, how do all these death row inmates rake up enough cash to buy these candies? Or are you immune to the poison they inject with the branches of sin? With these kinds of plotholes it’s always the context determines whether they’re an eyesore or a minor annoyance, and with Deadman Wonderland it has been the latter so far. There’s just so much else that makes up for it.
This episode was quiet for this series’ standards, but it did take advantage of that buy fleshing out the different characters. Shiro is back, she got some quality time together with Ganta, the priest got interesting, the resistance got some depth. And holy crap the ending of this episode contained some disturbing gore. This isn’t a matter of just showing a little blood: the way that the acid ate away that guy’s skin and muscles. Usually at those points, you see the camera pan away to not show the bloodiest parts. This show didn’t. The animation of this series can really be divided into two categories: really unimpressive, or really good.
This episode was laid back, but at the same time it didn’t destroy the mood that has been built up by the previous episode. Especially because it just kept dropping hints at all hell breaking loose in the next episode. They were surprisingly subtle for this series, but it just kept giving hints that many people are going to die horribly next week.
Rating: ** (Excellent)
I think winning one of the fights automatically gives you candy and that Ganta ate his right after he won his first fight. I haven’t seen this episode so I don’t know how long it’s been since then but episode seven was set right after six as I recall.
Also, Ganta won like 1000000 or 100000 cast points just for beating Senji, which even on the low side is a months worth and Ganta already won another fight since then.
They win cast point every time they win a fight, they can buy candies with that, in the manga one prisoner told him the first thing he has to do was to buy with his cast point were candies. I don`t think is neccesary to show him eating candies all the time. The manga is the one that has a lot of plotholes, the anime team has actually close some of this plotholes
Hardly any time has passed in-universe.
The censors of this show are absurd. Blood and Disembodied heads are apparently too violent for TV, to the point of clumsy block colour gradients and scenes being overly dark – but someone being partially dissolved and having their limbs snapped off is completely okay to show in all its glory? I think most people would agree which is actually the more disturbing case. Censors are bad enough but their presence is even more insulting when they’re not even consistent.
That being said, good episode. The show has stabilised somewhat so it’s more interesting, and the pacing whilst absurd allows for alot of pointless delays to obvious plot points to be removed, and keeps interesting stuff happening in every episode.
Just a shame it’s ending soon, really.
It has been mentioned before, but only death inmates have to eat candy. For the rest of the prisoners the collar functions as a tracking device. In the manga we are never told how many deathmen are on death row.
Ganta ate one before breaking into G block. Day one he fought Scar, day two he fought Hummingbird, we are now at day three, so he’ll need to eat one before the day is over.
Looks like next episode will introduce the kindergarden killer. I was worried she would get cut.
The “plotholes” are due to the IMMENSE amount of content they have cut.
Seriously, this episode takes the cake, i could see through fingers before but god damn. In the manga it takes weeks, heck even months (cant remember exactly) to get to this point.
What now, five days?
They have cut the story right into the bone, and even aiming at an anime original ending.
Tons of subplots, story arcs cut, every single side character, cut out, back stories, cut, flashbacks, cut, character development, cut CUT CUT!
I was thrilled that deadman wonderland would be adapted as i loved the manga, and i know i should never expect a perfect adapation, thats just how it works, but god damnit this is one shitty adaption.
psgels, do yourself a favour and drop it now, just do it, and read the manga, you are better off. Im even surprised you praised this episode so much.
It hasn’t been three days since Ganta ate his last candy.
psgels please read the manga…omg dude.
psgels doestn’t read manga, or does he?
