Cop Craft mixes up many unusual elements such as porno magazines, gay policeman, car chases and even romance into its trip this week. The result is that while it’s light in content, it proves to be more entertaining than when it deals with serious plot. While at this point I still prefer the relationship between Kei and Tilarna as partners, Cop Craft leans forward to the feelings Tilarna has for Kei, or more like how she wanted to be his equal. I have a good laugh of the running gags of her destroying his cars in pursuit for the chase. hey, she did the job marvelously, and Her facial expression is still as cute as ever. They still bounce off each other nicely at this point. In fact, their casual remarks and attitudes to each other makes the whole thing fun to watch.
Now, the case of this week is rather straightforward and underwhelming – for the cops, not for us. Porn mags become hot items for alien races, so come the business of illegal distribute them to those in need. I thought that Tilarna’s manner is made of steel, but she did budge and act all shy upon reading the mags (point for Kei with his snarky remarks). The real star of this episode is undoubtedly Tony, as he plays an undercover Yakuza gangster (which fools no one, but he tries) to get the leads of the case. In other events, our Tilarna needs to get a driver’s license, hence she seeks assistance from Cecil. Such creates a nice small dose of chemistry between her and Cecil (although I don’t think it pass the Bachdel test).
In the conversation with Cecil, we also learn about Kei’s lost sister. It’s something that will come up again very soon, and until then we will have a clearer picture of what the circumstances of her death might be, and how exactly he sees Tilarna as. In the meantime, cars will be blown, heads will roll, and truly I prefer this light-heart freestyle case than the all-important but rushed pacing in the first arc.
