I realized that while Fire Force has had many of the shounen troupes (some ad nauseam- see Cat girl), it’s been missing a training arc. We had a tournament really early on (that got kind of derailed), we’ve had fanservice, fights, enemies-turned-friends….but we haven’t had a good, ole-fashioned, protag powerup. Well, this week, we get it – and with the strongest Fire Soldier too!

I’m going to consider this the finale of Fire Force. You know those complaints about fight scene choreography I had in previous episodes? The reason for the problems was everyone was working on this episode. Seriously, I actually watched this one twice. Fire Force is on an upwards trajectory and I’m pumped!

So this is the finale of the first half of Fire Force…and it doesn’t really feel like a finale at all. But that’s okay! It’s one of the better episodes we’ve seen from our 8th brigade so far – mainly because it feels as though some of the fight scene animation demons have been (partially) exorcised this week. Well then! Fire Force is moving along at a brisk pace. Most other shows draw out the suspense of “whodunit” for at least a few episodes. Fire Force? Nope, it took like one and a half. Also this episode included the cat girl – and…it was well done. I found myself actually cheering for her character, despite absolutely loathing her for the past 7 episodes.
