Casshern Sins – 03

Short Synopsis: Casshern meets a man who travels alone.
Highlights: Subtle drama rocks!
Overall Enjoyment Value: 8,5/10
Am I the only one who finds it ironic that the series with the most original and appealing character-design of the season is a remake of a series that came from the 1970’s? In any case, I really liked this episode. It’s a quiet, yet very powerful one. The past few episodes have shown us nothing but robots, and yet at the same time they suggested that humans were still alive. In this one, Casshern finally meets a human, and the episode is basically a character-study of this human.

He’s basically a human that continues to run away from the robots, and is critical of his own existence. He already has a bad health (probably due to that nasty apocalypse Casshern caused), and I guess that at that point, the company Casshern can offer the guy is like a godsent. He dies of his own accord, at the end of the episode, and yet the coincidence of which it happens only contributes to Casshern’s nickname of “Death God”.

It’s also a great episode for Casshern: we’re only at episode three, and the guy is already developing. This episode was really meant to silence the emo inside of himself, which is always appreciated. What was up with the dog, though? Why did it suddenly have a change of heart? That was a downside of this episode.

Then there’s that ending theme, which I’m certain that it’s got some double meaning. Why exactly does it show the little kid and that woman together, and ends with the notion that Casshern is gone? It could be pulling off the same thing Soukou no Strain did, where the ED was basically a well-camouflaged aftermath of the series.

=== I didn’t get it either x_x But maybe it’s because Casshern had been willing to die in its hands(or err . . teeh) to pay for what he’d done? It suddenly saw that Casshern isn’t really a bad guy? Well, whatever the reason, I’m glad that Friender is in good terms with Casshern now xD I would really love to see Casshern with a dog robot like the older versions ^_^ Unfortunately, Friender doesn’t seem to be in the preview of episode 4 x_x *sad*

=== O_O Never thought of that until you’ve mentioned it x_x I can see the possibility of Casshern dying in the end. The necklace bothers me though. What’s with the green pendant?! x_x Maybe Casshern actually wears it inside his suit? o_O

By the way, I also find it ironic that for a remake, it had the most original character design of this season ^_^ I can’t consider it most appealing though because . . . Ringo had been painful to look at for me x_x

*sorry for double post. dunno how my actual comments disappeared o_O

  3. There’s something I didn’t quite catch though, and I’m wondering if it’ll be brought up later on…

Who closed Akoes’ eyes after he died? Was it Casshern? I’d think not since you could see the person having fingernails.

  4. I’ve read from somewhere (I think Wikipedia) that it was “Luna in a corporeal form” who closed Akoes’ eyes.

My guess regarding the ending is that Lyuze and Ringo are the ones closest to Casshern and maybe the only characters in the series who are not going to die.

The implication that Casshern is going to die did occur to me as well, but what the ending also tells me is that Casshern will become somewhat a part of Lyuze and Ringo. Lyuze feeling her skin sort of hints that she would become more humanlike, or maybe even human.

  5. There was something about Akoes that was vaguely familiar…then it occured to me earlier, he reminds me of Roy Focker, and thinking about it, Casshern in this episode kinda reminds me of Hikaru Ichijo. And after just reading the post about Episode 08… they also have a “Lyn Minmei” now?
