Blood+ is a 50-episode action drama. It follows the battle between two vampire-like girls: Saya and Diva. It’s a rather epic tale, Diva is almost the equal of a killing machine, and Saya made it her life-goal to kill her once and for all. They both have their own allies, Saya has the friends she spent happy times with, while Diva turned a number of people in monsters, making them completely devoted to each her.
This anime definitely is worth watching. The episodes 26-36 are so incredibly good. They even had me crying at times, which does not happen often. The first half of the series, or episodes 1 to 25 are interesting to watch, though they might be a pain to get through due to their huge length. They do, however, build up perfectly for the sheer awesomeness that follows afterwards.
Though I’m afraid I have to say it, but after episode 36, the overall quality of the anime gradually drops. From that point, it’s like a straight line to the finish. There are some entertaining moments, but it’s clear that the creators already played all of their trump cards in episodes 26-36. Still, it does remain enjoyable. My complaint, however, is the last two episodes, in which the series ends. They really work anticlimactic, as they somehow manage to destroy everything the series has been building up for.
The characters are very enjoyable to watch. As this anime has 50 episodes, there are lots of opportunities to really flesh out each of the characters, and the creators gave a very good attempt in doing so. The character development in this anime really worked out. The characters are also very interesting to watch in all of their struggles. Whenever an important character dies, (that does happen at certain points in this anime) the effects this has are great to see. Except, perhaps, when the ending comes near. By that time, these deaths become rather predictable.
As this is an action-series, be sure to expect lots of battles. The creators also made sure that our heroine Saya stayed alive through all this by giving her the ability to regenerate her wounds, so that if she’s slashed once, she isn’t really killed. Even though I can see why the creators chose to do this, I find it also a bit weak. The battles themselves also don’t really try to be original, or something. While they are exciting, they’re nothing special. Still, the normal humans do not have the ability to regenerate. The battles in which humans play a role are mostly the most creative ones.
In terms of music, this anime also tries to be epic. At some times, it really works, but when you compare it to other anime, then the soundtrack of Blood+ isn’t really anything special. It doesn’t really try to stand out. Same with the graphics. They’re good, they really work, but they don’t try to stand out. Only Lewis and the Schiff ended up with memorable character designs.
Overall, Blood+ really is a series with its ups and downs. It’s got some totally amazing moments, but at the same time, some elements are doomed for mediocrity. Still, the awesome moments were definitely worth it.

I loved this serie especially the character of Diva. I enjoyed watching it all along and contrary to you, I didn’t find this serie has any moments of mediocrity. And the end was quite beautiful too! And we have the impression Diva really was misunderstood and the fact she didn’t have the chance to grow up surrounded by people who loved her like Saya , made a some kind of murderer out of her. Well, Saya and Diva are both chiropters( don’t know exactly how it’s spelled)and moreover they sisters , they were to have the same fate but Saya just had a chance in life contrary to Diva. And I didn’t get what was going to happen with Diva’s two daughters ? Are they chiropters as well? And Saya ended up falling into a long sleep and we could wonder if she’ll wake up once again. If not, it would mean she’s dead. Well I just completely agree with you about the music, it doesn’t fit to a such beautiful anime. Well that fact beside, this serie is one of my favorite!(one of , the very first is “les miserables”)It’s totally WORTH TO BE WATCHED!!!!!!!

Anyway, I felt Saya was wasted…and she will be remembered as one of the worst heroine ever.

Saya is the worst heroine ever. She whimpers and faints in the first half of blood+ and gets cold and annoying in the second half. Her fighting skills require he getting saved by hagi or solomon or whoever. Go Diva.
WORST ANIME EVER!!!! for 52 episodes it’s shit. The antagonist are cooler than the protagonist. They should have made a story about Diva instead.

yea topaz sometimes they do that on purpose to give some depth to it. if every lovable character always lived through an anime, then what was the point? at the same time you can’t kill every character
I just finished watching this series, although due to time constraints I watched ep 1-36 and then read the plot and watched episode 50. I have to agree with psgels, the first few episodes were quite mediocore and it was only because I had nothing to do that I kept watching (I had dropped this anime after first 2 episodes once before).
For me, episode 8 was when I really began to like this show – after that, my fondness gradually grew, until by around episode 16 I could not stop myself from wanting to find out what happens next, both because the plot was engaging and also because I had really fallen for the characters.
I can see where the anime has faults, such as pacing problems, too much angst sometimes, and Saya being a little bit annoying in some moments; but there was so much more to love about this series.
For one, almost all of the characters were very well developed and given their own colour and depth; they also fit into the story perfectly. I have encountered many critisisms for Kai, but I felt that he was one of the characters that grew and changed the most – he only looked ‘weak’ because he was merely a young boy thrown into a world of violence and blood compared to seasoned fighters who were all older than him. I also felt he really was the glue that the family together.
I know that many of the antagonists were developed after episode 36, like Amshel, so I can’t really say much yet ( I am going to finish the last 14 episodes properly when I have time again) but I did enjoy that they did not stick to sterotypes all the time – see Simon.
The music – such as the cello and Diva solos did not blow me away as much as I thought they would, but the music in the action scenes were not too bad.
In summary, if you are teetering between watching it or not, I would highly recommend watching this, at least for the first 10 episodes or so. Exactly like psgels said, the first half of the anime is really like one big build up – but it really is worth it, because after the introductions are done, events happen one after another and revelations come at you and their impact is so great because there have been time to develop the characters and relationships before all hell breaks loose.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable ride, can’t wait to finish it properly!
