Basquash! – 03

Short Synopsis: Apparently, one year has passed since the first episode and some mysterious guy is wreaking havoc in Rollingtown
Episode Rating: 7,5/10 (Good)
Let me first hijack this post for a bit to react on some comments that I received on this post. I personally thought that nobody would be interested in reading my thoughts on the new FMA that already was blogged by many other people, but I might have been wrong in this. Are there more people who are interested to see me blogging that series? At this point, I can still easily swap it with Valkyria Chronicles.

In any case, regarding this episode: it was what I’d like to call creative cutting of corners. While the background art looked as solid as ever, it was clearly obvious that the animation on the foreground was rushed. More often than not, the camera would pan away from a character when he or she was talking in order to save up on trying to synchronize their lips. Interesting effect, but it remains cheap. ^^; The question is now going to be whether the budget has run out completely or the creators are just saving some budget for later episodes. It’s annoying that you can never really predict this.

Still, this episode didn’t lose the fun-factor that this series has. I especially liked how Iceman Hotty (also the guy with the weirdest name of the season) turned out to be competely different from what I expected him to be, and he seems to be suffering from either hypocrisy or a bipolar disorder: on one hand he diligently plays official basketball, and on the other hand he wreaks havoc at night because he hates street basketball.

I also liked how people actually made a monument of Dan’s mecha crashing into the baseball post a year after it happened. That’s not a statue you see every day, is it? This episode also introduced some sort of princess or daughter of a very rich person, who is probably going to play a big role in the future. Sela Miranda meanwhile is also a very strange character: she’s a talented hard-working girl who gets turned on by being dominated. I’m still not convinced at how this series made both the princess and Sera look way more composed and talented than most adults, to be honest I didn’t expect any different. What I didn’t expect was that woman with the incredibly huge bust that showed up in this episode and offered to be Dan’s manager. What the?

  1. I think it’s okay if you don’t blog FMA. Not because I don’t wanna hear your thoughts about it, but many are already blogging about it anyway. Please don’t drop Valkyria, because not that many blog that series. But if would be really wonderful if you blog both, hehe.

Now on Basquash. . . interesting. And yay Iceman!!!! Looking forward to see the subbed version of this episode. Hehe.

  2. Blogging FMA would be nice, but not at the cost of Valkyria Chronicles (or Pandora Hearts or Eden of the East, IMO).

Anyway, lol at the statue. And why does this series put so much emphasis on large busts? Fanservice is nice, but not when it’s repeatedly done purely for the sake of fanservice. Well, I’ll reserve judgment until after the subs.

  3. I think you should drop Valkyria and pick up FMA. Personally I like hearing multiple opinions on a show, so the more the merrier. Besides, I haven’t been impressed with Valkyria that much and I think FMA has more potential to be a good series to follow. It’s up to you of course, but I just wanted you to know that there are those out here that don’t have a great affinity for Valkyria and wouldn’t mind if you drop it. (No hatin’!)

  4. Don’t blog fma for valkyria chronicles, the plot for valkyria chronicles will pick up very soon and there are enough bloggers for fma on the net already.

  5. To be honest, if you start blogging FMA, I’d have to politely beg that you at least post your thoughts AFTER watching the subs.

For one, there will probably be plenty enough dialogue you may not always understand, and the summary you provide will confuse people who tend to rely on you when subs are not available, even in the short time it takes for a popular show to get subbed.
But also, for every misunderstanding you make, I or someone else will start trying to explain everything to clear things up, despite the fact that most misunderstandings could be cleared up just after watching subs. I know the plot well enough that I’ll happily explain anything that doesn’t come across well enough in the fansubbers’ translations, but you get a lot more readers now than you used to, and confusion could result in unnecessary argument.

Sorry, wierd request, but I’m trying to think ahead, and it’s a short enough space of time that it shouldn’t make a difference. Please consider.

  6. I just saw the subbed version and I can safely say this is one of the most ridiculous shows I’ve ever seen. I mean, how much can you obsess over boobs? Making the women super horny, with massive boobs is so preposterous, it made me laugh. Still, does that really fit in with the themes of this anime? I don’t know. Regardless, I’ll continue watching. Why? Couldn’t give you an answer if I tried.
