Bakuman – 12

Yay second season!

There is one thing that I don’t quite get, though, It’s not specific for this series, but because no DVDs have been sold yet, this clearly was a second season that was planned along with the first season. The same goes with Nurarihyon no Mago: there were hints here and there that the producers were already working on a second season. The same goes for series as Natsume Yuujinchou, Birdy the Mighty and White Album. My question is though: why don’t they immediately announce these sequels like what TWGOK did? It certainly would have saved me a ton of annoyances and opportunities to whine…

Anyway, so yes: Bakuman will at least have 39 episodes, and most likely it’s going for 50. That explains the slow pacing. Just note that my entries will probably be rather short for the upcoming episodes, because so little happens in each episode so there’s very little to say.

This episode was all about middle school graduation. Again, it was nearly completely focused on one topic: Moritaka and Miya. The slice of life around it was the best part of this episode, though. The romance still is too simple at this point and instead I enjoyed the characterization around it.

  1. That’s because Bakuman is one of the most popular mangas in Japan. That’s why I fully expected this anime to continue into multiple seasons when I realized the place was so slow.

  2. The TWGOK continuation was accidentally leaked by an affiliated company. We weren’t supposed to know about it…..rather, the official line was that DVD sales would determine how long the series spanned. In actuality, it was a 24 episode project from the start.

As for Bakuman and Nura, it’s impossible to know when they greenlit second seasons. They probably planned more than one series for each, but there wasn’t necessarily any guarantee that they’d go through with them.

FWIW, Nura has done decently on DVD, while Bakuman’s success doesn’t really depend on home video sales. The show airs on NHK’s Educational channel (so one purpose is to teach kids how cool manga making might be as a career), and TV ratings haven’t been terrible, which might justify continuation.

  3. Btw, just to show how slow Bakuman anime is, someone in Anime News Network forum mention at episode 11, it only manages to go 13 manga chapters. That incredibly slow, even if we’re going by Naruto and Bleach standards.

I don’t if its just slow, but then most of time are spent on either recaps or Mashiro and Azuki romance.

I’m sure they are purposely slowing the anime storyline so they can get as many episodes as possible, but they are just doing it in such a boring way.

  4. I really, really hate Bukuman. I don’t understand this forced drama the main male and female leads place on each other. Just f****** date her if you like her so much. I haven’t felt this much rage against a character since School Days. Somebody wake me up when Mashiro gets the decapitated boat ride he so richly deserves.

lol but Azuki is the one who suggested them not to meet until Mashiro have an anime and then they get married.

Seriously, just ignore the romance in the series if you feel its too unrealistic/idealistic.

  6. I seriously don’t get why people think Bakuman is so boring. (but then, it could be because I haven’t read the manga yet XD) Since there’s many seasons, I’m just relieved I won’t get to see rushed plots. when was the last time I sat down and fully watched a show that lasted more than 24 episodes…

  7. ^^^
Most shows don’t need more than 12 episodes. That’s one of the reasons I hate American television so much (Friends, Ep#157, The One Where Ross Sleeps With Monica). The only show that deserved more than 24 episodes was Clannad.
