Only three monthsago I was a weekend in Paris for a holiday, so it was kindof nice to see it in animated form. And some parts of this episode definitely rang home to me, like how on one hand it profiles itself as this hip charming city, yet still is full of merchandizing stuff, how the hotels are small and how things are pretty expensive. There was one part that I found a bit fishy: the creators handled the language barrier right, but how did they know the exchange rates between euros and yen instantly?
But still, there is something I’m really wondering here: what’s the point? Why is Paris important fo this series? All the characters did in this episode was eat out expensively and spend money. There were hardly any microbes, plus it doesn’t really add anything to the premise, setting or characters. Haruka’s whole wedding has been going on for nearly the entire season, but has much changed?
On top of that, this episode also wasn’t really fun, it wasn’t surprising, it wasn’t entertaining. It was just… there. I’m really starting to wonder whether my original assessment for this sequel was right: why was it made? What does it have to add? Right now this feels like the Paris-hen of Nodame Cantabile: sure it has its moment, but was it really necessary? There are virtues in being concise, you know?
Rating: 3/8 (Mediocre)
I think it has more to do with fact that the Japanese are completely enthralled by France, Paris in particular. Having some episodes take place in France will probably attract viewers/readers just because of the setting.
The French arc = W I N E
I think you´re being a little unfair with this show…
All the nitpicking that you do here sometimes you let it slide with other series, like the exchange rate thing is pretty normal, when I travel abroad I always do the same thing…
But its all a matter of opinion I guess…
Usually when I end up doing this unfair nit-picking, it means that the series has become rather boring and I start to see inconsistencies like that. In other words: my suspense of disbelief is fading away fro this series, which isn’t really a good sign.
I’m pretty sure your issue with this show is that you want it to be more than what it really is. If you simply enjoy the show for what it is and has always been: The daily life of a guy in college, who happens to be able to see bacteria with naked eye. It’s not some complex beautifully written masterpiece of a story that draws you in from all angles. If you look more into what it honestly is, it’s natural that you’re going to be disappointed.
I’m not really enjoying Moyashimon anymore, it seems like a whole heap of build up and no idea what for. I really enjoyed the first season but it seems like everything that made it so quirky and fun is gone.
