Uchuu Kyoudai – 17

Ah, I finally got a new PC to replace my nearly broken old laptop. Finally I don’t have to worry about being unable to play files and lagging framerates (Seriously, there were times especially during flash mecha-series, in which its frame-rate just couldn’t keep up on files with normal resolution). Thankfully this is a thing of the past now.

Now, as for this episode: it finally confimed what has been clear for a while now: JAXA has sent instructions to some of the contestants to screw things up and create stress: the broken clock was meant to kill their sense of time, while the alarm at the middle of the night was meant to disturb their sleep (which WILL happen if you’re in a space shuttle). After everything was cleared up though, I was wondering how the creators would follow up with this. I mean, for Team A there is no reason for stress anymore thanks to a combination between Mutta’s luck and his observational habits (by the way, it’s interesting to have two members in the team who are bothered on the small things, yet in completely different ways).

And then the climax of this episode came, and it was glorious. I mentioned before that Space Brothers has some of the best romance of the season, and this episode only made this better. Before, the creators already nailed the way in which the two of them could be a couple: similar interestsspending time together, etc. This episode was wonderfully creative in how it used all of the build-up together.

  1. Yes! Gratz on your new PC, psgels! XD May it serve you well.

for Team A there is no reason for stress anymore

Hm. Well, there will be less discord among the team, at least, those who have received green cards. But like the director said, there’s plenty of ways to raise stress among the team members even without the green cards. Even if everyone had figured out what the alarm meant, it doesn’t mean the alarm will stop ringing. Having interrupted sleep every night is going to be stressful. And who knows what Muta’s task will be. Plus the stress seems to be getting to the guy striving so hard to be calm too, to the point where he seems to have given up.

And then the climax of this episode came, and it was glorious

Haha. Unfortunately, the only one who realized Muta’s feelings wasn’t the object of his affection but the guy outside trying to stress him. XD I’m pretty sure he’ll find a way to make use of this. I have a pretty naughty feeling about what will be in Muta’s green card next week. LOL. Poor Muta.

  2. Sorry, again this episode was absolut rubbish. They found out the obvious… do you think they are so dumb!!!! I mean how would anyone profit from breaking the clock which is important for every one? If there was missing equipment important for one like the brocken glasses it would be the obvious, or the rubrik cube. This would cause stress. Same with the alarm, everyone is awake so how would it benefit one. Its so clear that this is set up, so no stress. For me the reason for Muta beleving the food shortage is also a green card make absolut sense. THIS would be something for one to benefit if he hides some food and is better in shape to get the votes but then everyone looks like Muta is dumb. And still, this could have been handled in 1 episode instead of 3.
So to the positive part, how will Mutas feeling impact his career? I don’t think the JAXA likes to have lovers on a trip.

    1. I think you’re missing the point of the green cards. As mentioned in the episode, the green cards are meant to see how someone reacts to another person’s mistake. In the previous episode no one in team A, besides Mutta, assumed that the clock was willfully sabotaged. They all assumed that someone accidentally broke the broke and was not coming clean about it because then everyone would be pissed at him/her.

  3. “some of the best romance of the season”

They just shaked hands. She’s still completely oblivious to his feelings – which are rather teenage-like.

Looks like it’s a sad season for romance…

  4. I disagree. This plot arc has dragged considerably. I’m to the point where I just want them to make the stupid decision for who is going to be the astronauts. I think they overplayed it here. I guess I’ll keep watching it..

  5. I don’t find it dragging….just graving for more. I love the character’s reactions so real and realistic.
