Oh heck, Persona is dropped. I know that everyone keeps going on about being faithful and all, but this should not be taken to the extreme, where a show is trying to be so faithful and sacrifices being enjoyable and interesting for it in the process.
The next question was though: what series should I replace this with? Kimi to Boku? Nah, that series is 50% good drama and 50% pure annoyance. Bakuman? No, that one has turned into a cheesy soap opera lately. Squid Girl? Again no, because it’s clear that it has run out of jokes. Guilty Crown? Hell no, because of how abysmal the male lead is. That only left two other options, but after watching this episode I figured to choose this one above Horizon.
Hell, Nurarihyon no Mago is a very flawed series. Its pacing is way too damn slow, but now that it has finally gotten to the point where everything’s coming together, I might as well follow it till the end. I mean, it’s about bloody time.
And don’t get me wrong, the new director for the second season fits this series much, much better. Junji Nishimura needs to be put on original series. That’s where this guy really shines. The new guy meanwhile has done a really good job on directing this thing, but with the source material being like it is, there is very little you can do about it. This is the problem with just about any shounen jump series: they all take bloody ages to get to where they want to be. Who the hell found it a good idea to include two whole training arcs in the same arc? These two arcs were by far the biggest flaw of this second season. They completely broke up the flow and took bloody ages to actually finish.
However, now that that’s all done, we can finally get to what we’ve been looking forward to for nearly five months now: Nura and his army taking on Hagoromo Gitsune and her army. And now that we finally got to this point, this episode did deliver here. This episode in particular had some great youkai design, and actually moved quickly, as what you’d expect from an all out war.
The atmosphere also really worked here, plus the art direction has improved massively in this new season. I mean, this series had Mariko Oka (the character designer of Jigoku Shoujo and Ghost Hound), and yet the first season made the character designs all look bland. This season is different: Mariko Oka took the greatly diverse designs from the manga, turned all of them into very vastly different anime character designs, and finally the animators with their crispness managed to show how much care went into all of these designs.

That took you a while to drop Persona. I enjoyed the game, but the anime was quite underwhelming. Game and anime are two different mediums, and the blind adherence of the anime to the game is really making it suffer.
Really wish you would have picked Horizon instead, much more unique, interesting, and fresh than Nura and already has another season confirmed. Oh well.
dropped Nurahiyon already. Just couldn’t stand how unrealistic the anime is. There is no shred of realism whatsoever in both animes and manga. Heck, I even finished reading a chapter for 30 seconds, skipping all dialogues and just focusing at the picture, and I still understand what they’re trying to do.
Bakuman… Oh, It’s probably going to be on my dropped list. Haven’t watched the last 2 episodes. Just couldn’t stand how cheesy it was. Only watched the first 3-5 minutes of the 7th episode, then I switched it to IdolM@ster, for it was more interesting xD
@Alec. When you read a manga and whit only the images you understand what are trying to do, is sign of a good manga. But I am whit you whit Idol Master is more interesting now.

I’m glad you’re blogging Nurarihyon! Despite its flaws, I still can’t bring myself to hate it. I’ve only been following this show and Penguindrum lately.
Although I love Guilty Crown (Gai makes up for what’s-his-face), I’m glad you picked up Nurarihyon. I missed your weekly opinions on it from last season.
Though your comment on having to decide between this and Horizon makes me question whether I was too hasty on dropping it due to the abysmal character designs.
Personally I think shows like Nura Clan are enjoyed more when watched in blocks, rather than one episode per week.
I’ll probably get back to it once the season wraps up–think I put it on hold an ep or two after that first training arc (which I thought was better than most, since it wasn’t *only* training, and had a lot of other characters introduced at the same time).
NOOOOO Persona 4 was dropped?! Also, I have said so many times that the reason it’s so bad is because the anime deviates from the game too much. I have no idea where you got the “anime is bad because it’s too faithful” idea from.
I hope you at least keep watching and write about it when it finishes. It really, really gets better later.
I dropped Guilty Crown because of Gai. My god he is irritating from the point he appeared. That one line in the first episode, “you abandoned her?”, that one ^&(*ing line.
“Yes, Mr.Protagonist, there’s this girl you just met a few hours ago whom you have no connection or obligation for, and who was forcibly taken away by military people with weaponry that could kill you ten times over if you so much as to look at them wrong. That in addition to you having no obligation towards us, our works, or organization. Yet I still feel that I am perfectly justified in accusing you of abandoning her.”
Holy shit, I don’t even know how to begin. Never has one line of dialogue killed an anime for me the way GC did it.
