Whoa. He realized. Okabe realized the thing that had been glooming in the background for ages and that we were all looking forward to: if he reverts back the first D-Mail, Kurisu will end up dying. I’m really looking forward to seeing Okabe prevent that, while at the same time preventing her from joining CERN and create the time-line where Mayuri dies.
I do wonder, though: how does Okabe keep travelling back in time? Sometimes he uses the D-Mail, yes, but at others the time just goes back, and while sending FB’s message in this episode he reverted back to Moeka’s apartment. Are we to assume that Okabe goes back to Kurisu immediately, wait for her to complete the brain travel device and travels back using that?
And yeah: FB’s identity: it all makes sense now, or at least the big question of how CERN knew so much details about their plans: they’re just a case of poor sound ceiling isolation. His motivation was very clear, and he was really a tragic character and I really liked how they tied Suzuha to him, without making her part of CERN’s plot. It really was a clever way to flesh out a villain who you don’t want to be known as a villain yet.
Rating: ** (Excellent)
Another stellar episode, but unfortunately I already knew what was gonna happen so it wasnt very exciting, and I imagine most people feel the same way
Now is where things get interesting, they have to find a way to save both Mayuri and Kurisu, and I cant wait to know how
anyone that payed attention knew what was going to happen especially those who rewatched the first episode. we all knew that a death was imminent but now that makes me wonder about that one scene in episode 12. it has a vision of mayuri looking for okarin. she said she has searched for through many world lines and that the although there are multiple okarins and mayuri and that the ones present in the vision are the originals. this may hint that something happens to okarin to replace the death of both mayuri and kurisu and that mayuri now is trying to alter the past with d-mail to prevent his death instead or that another world line originally had okarin’s death but it was mayuri trying to stop it. she also said that both okarin and mayuri would die but their will would carry on to themselves in the distant future. what does this mean???
ppl please rewatch the episode 12.
Spectacular episode. Another blogger correctly pointed out who FB probably was, which kind of spoiled me but it was exciting to see it happen. That really makes it clear that -everyone- in the show is important, though. Everyone is connected to what is happening in some way or another.
So the real culprit, in my eyes, is Kurisu’s jealous dad. Maybe he murdered Kurisu in the first episode. That’s my theory, but I’m pretty sure that the fact that they even mentioned him means he’s going to be important.
I wonder if there were viewers who forgot Kurisu was dead in the original timeline.
spelledwithaph: I remember that, they were in like a desert or something. Like an hourglass maybe, haha… I figured that was just some sort of thing they put in for effect, like a dream kind of. Interesting ideas though! Very interesting.
It’s going to get better…
one word is enough: mindfuck
Mind officially blown.
Braun is FB.
Speculation so far: Kurisu’s dad killed her in episode 1. There’s only one original Mayuri. Nae is the criminal mastermind of CERN in the future sent to the present.
Yep. No conspiracy theory is too outlandish for this show.
i also do not think that kurisu’s dad is the killer but rather suzuha. remember in the first episode you see the time machine still intact and even catch a glimpse of her making a cross with her hands after exiting it. my theory is that suzuha was originally sent back in time to kill kurisu, the primary contributor/ mother to the time machine program. if there was no more kurisu then cern may have never be able to control time travel. when okarin sent his first d-mail it altered suzuha’s objective and made her crash throwing the world to a very different world line.
This week has been amazing, Carnival Phantasm raw, a stellar episode aired in place of Kamisama Dolls, and another amazing episode of s;g… I just wish I was not working and be able to watch each one 10 times :/
Please, nobody tell me whether I’m right, but undoing the D-Mail that saved Kurisu’s life might not return the time line to normal. Was it not hinted at earlier in the series that chibi-Okabe experienced a time line-shift when he became ill as a child? And, what of the Part Timer’s (why do I so often forget her name!?!?!?) transport back to the 70s? Perhaps that, too, needs to be undone.
@wolf you’re right.
They took out the part with Braun’s daughter?
I was looking forward to that part. I know it was pretty unimportant overall and was more of a mindfuck moment but it still would have been nice to have been included.
oh my god i am so sorry that you missed this episode.
I give you my deepest condolences.
I have never actually felt chills from anime for a while until now.
Please give this series 100/100 in the analysis after it ends I beg you.
Let’s say the above theories are true, why is Okabe in the first episode talking to himself with the “Agency”. Who or what is the Agency? I thought it would be SERN, but why does he know at that point about them?
@skoopman
Organization –
This is an agency Okarin refers to as a group who he works in joint with involved with all things SCIENCE. It is a highly secret group who is sought after by many an opposing organizations, whose secrets would be vital to radical change. This is the initial irony to the series, as something imaginary becomes all too real.

@spelledwithaph Thanks for the correction! This entire series need to be watched again – skipping some of the lighter ones though – to rejigger old memories and bring hints to the light.
Cliffhangers again…. Gahhhh
By the way, did you guys Okabe’s feet when he is kneeling while he is talking to Kurisu? At around 3:32.
Scary stuff.
I don’t think Okabe has to wait on the time skip device anymore.
Each time he’s undone a D-mail it’s pushed the death-deadline back a day, so by the time they’re at now each time he uses the time leap he should be going back to a point when the device was already finished.
Thats what I’d imagine at least.
I thought the Nae part was important.
Oh well can’t use everything from the VN, huh?
Spolier?
Not sure but I’m putting it as a spoiler:
I hate how they took out the part with Nae traveling back from the future after torturing Okarin in 2025 for fifteen years for killing her dad. She believe him and Moeka are the cause. Although Moeka died back in 2010 she uses their time machine to go back. She stabs Moeka a few days later in which in the same day Moeka commits suicide.
Didn’t John Titor come at 2000 in the original world line?
Also the professor in the first episode used Titor’s theory and model. . So that means that guy actually created a time machine?
