Yumekui Merry – 08

Ah, thankfully this show is back on track here after that beach episode. The quiet scenes were as well directed and interesting to watch as ever, and the serious parts also showed a lot of new things about the characters. Yui’s father’s appearance also was probably the first time since a long while that I actually laughed again at “you brought home someone from the opposite sex. I’ll be a father in law now!”-joke.

Now, there is one major problem that I’m getting with this series: Elcles. This guy needs more screentime, because after eight episode we still don’t know much more about him other than than he’s really evil. And that perhaps he has something to do with Merry. I mean, the creators are currently doing a great job to blend the moral scale around Merry, so do that to the major villain as well. It’s going to make him so much more interesting. Right now the only hint at any kind of depth about him is that Merry is somehow related to that, but there are tons of other anime that do that.

Beyond that, this episode also further developed Isana and her dreams to become a professional painter. I can’t help but think that this is hinting that she too has some sort of dream demon, but in either case it’s foreshadowing something. Yumekui Merry probably isn’t going to become anything amazing at this point, for that its story just is too simple, but it still can get a pretty good climax out of all of the things it’s built up so far. Let’s hope that the creators also actually do that.
Rating: * (Good)

NB: currently I’m trying out Lulzimg. Is there anyone who can’t view the images at the top of this post?

  1. Episode 08….

I didn’t find the episode all that great. I was sorta of disapointed. The wolrd is a bit hard to understand, yeah its dreams i know, but still in could have more of how it works revealed by now. 🙂

The evil one? yawn…totally boring and uninteresting. Even his henchmen was a yawn.

I really wish they would have stuck to being a mystery and forget this save the dreams battle they are building to. Fight, sure but as they seek the questions around Merry. You can do evil deeds without being black and white, which is all they show for these dream demons.

Maybe the manga was better, I’ve not read it so….

  2. Since you registered your website in imageshack or something, I’ve been able to view again all the imageshack files in your page. Imageshack files in other webpages still show the “login to watch in your country” behaviour, so registering your website was in fact what solved the problem.

As for lulzimg, it works perefectly here, but as morganabanana22 says, the images takes a longer time to load.

  3. The images are loading fine and fast for me? I guess it depends on the country you are in?

If it’s loading slow, can you post the country you are in, or at least the area in the world? Maybe we can see some pattern?

  4. I’m in Argentina, the somewhat slow loading from lulzimg doesn’t really bothers me; it isn’t _so_ slow, but imageshack loads instantly.

  5. I can see the images perfectly!

There are 5 episodes left, but it seems there are still a lot of things that need to be developped! :S

  6. I think Isana’s dreams are about to disappear, that’s why there’s so much emphasis on them in this episode, accompanied by (I think) foreshadowing of her being taken by a dream demon. Also, note that Yui’s grandfather brings up the “dream loss” syndrome that’s been going around the school.

Finally, with all that attention that the now-looking-quite-sinister teacher is giving to his students’ hopes-and-dreams, don’t you think he’s probably the vector bringing the dream demons into this world? Now, what does he have to do with Merry?

  7. I’m in the US. The images don’t load at a horribly slow rate it just takes long enough that I actually see them pop into existence while the other post’s pictures loaded instantly with the site.
