Whoa, the characters here are all in their thirties. The females anyway. That makes this show even more interesting; I mean, when was the last time we had a series where the average age of the characters was this high? Ristorante Paradiso? It’s impressive, even for Noitamina’s standards. It’s great that they still dare to make series like this.
I like Kuranosuke’s relationship with his mother: his parents have been divorced for god knows how long for now, and his mother definitely had a lot of influence on him (probably partly inspired his cross-dressing), and yet the series doesn’t try to create cheap drama around her, yet keeps things down to earth.
And yet the series is also so over the top, in the way that Kuranosuke keeps penetrating the ridiculous and in-denial lifestyle of the sisterhood, while at the same time we have Tsukimi making her own impact with Kuranosuke’s brother. The whole way in which he just forces himself onto Tsukimi is what I like best about this series: it’s just so dynamic and lively.
The characterization for the entire cast is excellent, though. On paper especially the members of the sisterhood would have been awfully annoying, but the way that this show portrays them, by giving them some depth here really works. They’re all completely in denial, and have shut themselves off from the outside world completely. They just pretend that there’s nothing wrong with their lifestyles.
Rating: ** (Excellent)
I love the makeover and the run in with Kuranosuke’s brother. His fantasy is so traditional lol.
Though the part when he tries to make them pretty was kinda cliche, It was a fun episode…I would say that I was expecting that since ep1…
Yeah, definitely not a new premise. Then again every narrative trope’s been done before the fall of Rome. But watching the makeover generates a lot of fun scenarios. Especially amongst the Amars where they ironically ostracize back anyone hip or stylish.
It’s refreshing to watch a series dealing with people’s complexes. These women built their own worlds as a defense against everything that scares them or makes them feel inferior. I wonder how different (or similar) their backgrounds are, but I doubt that 11 episodes would explain that and perhaps that’s not the point.
Kuranosuke’s brother’s crush on Tsukimi and her looking at him through the glass really killed all chances of Kuranosuke and Tsukimi’s romance, didn’t it? đ
I certainly hope that Shuu’s crush on Tsukimi and her looking at him through the glass didn’t kill all chances of Kuranosuke ans Tsukimi’s romance. đ I’m already liking those two together.
Absolutely love this show. The best of the season so far. ^^
Hmmm I like ShuuXTsukimi better than KuranosukeXTsukimi ..But even no romance would be good for this series I thik.Even if they make Tsukimi pair up with some one,I hope they’ll pull off something like Ugly Betty where the main character never really magically suddenly get more beautiful, but still grows as a wonderful character worth to be loved just fine.Instead of giving her a magical transformation that makes the other person loves her just because of her looks..
The part I liked most about the progression of the theme in Kuragehime in this episode was that Tsukimi didn’t like the make up Kuranosuke gave her and he still had no fXXking clue why she didn’t thank him.
They are all totally set in their ways and don’t accept any path beyond their own…I hope the anime explores that further.
my question is..

did no one notice? xD
It sounds like a good show! You’re right, a lot of anime doesn’t have an older cast. I remember being surprised with Nana having a cast in their 20s… I’ll definitely give this a try!
If I remember correctly it was mentioned in episode 1, Tuskimi is 18 years old? Or was I mistaken?
Don’t be confused everyone. On the japanese wiki for Kuragehime, Tsukimi is 18.
