Well, so much for the formula: this episode already broke it and instead had one of the cybodies unleash an illusion on Takuto. The characterization here was excellent, and even though this episode was quiet and completely different from the previous three, it developed Takuto and Wako’s relationship quite well and showed a number of pretty interesting things about their pasts. What caught my interest the most however was the things that this episode promised.
I mean, at this rate I can very well imagine that the creators are planning to have Takuto fight a different character each episode. Because of this, it’s starting off with the unimportant characters: they both serve to introduce the concepts, and flesh out the main characters: Utena did the same in the Black Rose arc. In any case, this offers tons of opportunities to weave the stories of all kinds of characters into one, and this show definitely has the potential and creativity to pull this off.
I like how all of the main villains are different, and that has made all of the episodes so different so far, aside from the repeated scenes. The black-haired girl seems to like to brainwash people into submission. The interesting thing is that at the moment that Takuto saw through the illusions, the leader instead said that her plan worked out well. And to be honest, I’m not really sure what they really expected to do with this illusion, but if it had a bigger purpose than just “take out Takuto”, then I’m very interested in what the rest of the episodes are going to offer.
Rating: ** (Excellent)
I imagine the purpose was to make our awkward teenagers get over themselves and get closer. Reflecting on their pasts together made them want to move forward, and as we see at the end, Takuto now actively wants to give Wako a chance to leave the island.
Not sure what they have planned to make use of the development, but that’s part of the fun.
Yes, the beginning of this episode was totally kurobara-hen… and I liked the episode in general since it did what I had hoped for after episode 3: Take a breath and focus on the characters that are already there instead of introducing even more.
It made sense to me why Jaguar wanted to bring Wako and Takuto closer to each other but it remains kind of mysterious why Keito helped her in doing that when her group seems to be working on defeating Takuto and unlocking the seals of the miko.
Yeah, I think the plan was to have Takuto and Wako get closer together.
As to how that is a good thing for the baddies, I’m not sure but let’s see how that plays out.
Anybody else think the approach of the illusion-spawning Cybody through the mist was an homage to “Big O”?
Has anyone noticed how the fish girl is getting more and more lively? It’s like she started out as prisoner being forced to tell a story for her master and now it looks like she’s actually enjoying it. Btw, she’s the maiden whose seal was broken in the 1st episode, right?
I’m not very fond to the whole teenage drama in this series (even so, I admit it was well executed in this episode). Still, it looks like plot is starting to kick off in a good direction, this series may have potential beyond this first espisodes.

I like this episode, it’s nice to take a break from the templated plots of episode1-3.
I personally think their aim is not to take out Takuto, since they are a bunch of weirdo researchers(?) on some mass destruction weapon call cybodies and the biggest problem they have is the miko seals. Therefore I think this episode’s plan is to make Wako began to escape her duty (leaving the island) so they can break the miko seal easily at a later time (I recalled Wako’s seal is the 4th seal).

Yes, she’s that miko from episode 1.
