Pandora Hearts – 17

Okay, so this episode was basically an aftermath and introduction. In the first part of the episode, Sharon’s kidnapping is wrapped up, while the rest of the episode shows us a familiar character returning: Ada, Oz’s sister. Both were excellent opportunities to see different sides of some characters. What I liked most about this episode was how we come to see Break and Sharon in a totally different light.

We learn that Break too was alive 100 years ago, and involved in the time-warp that got hold of Gilbert and Vincent. He was then found by Sharon and her mother, and while he started off as a closed off brat, it was Sharon’s mother who turned him into the playful sadist he is today. As what happened to Sharon’s mother, we still don’t know. She could be dead, but this show has a tendency of keeping it a mystery of who survived and who died.

As for Oz’s sister, she overacted a bit in my opinion. I’m not too fond of how she turned into some sort of blond bimbo, but she definitely has potential if she gets fleshed out more. Oscar in the meantime was priceless in his worries over her. The school also seems to hold some mysteries that have to do with Alice, so I’m wondering what these kids can add to the story. I mean, if they’re at school, they were five years old when Oz was cast into the Abyss, so they can’t have something to do with the whole story, can they?

  1. You’d be surprised at what those kids and other things related to that school can add to the ever deepening mystery of Alice and the Abyss. On a sidenote Oscar and Oz’s reaction to Ada’s mystery crush is always priceless, I wonder if they also kept the other priceless scene with Oscar dressing up as a student.

  2. Of course the imouto character would grow huge boobs after a few years, lol.

This episode was incredibly funny. It wasn’t as shippy as the last, but it still had that Oz/Alice/Raven moment I’m hoping they’ll turn into something – more. XD

I never expected to like Xerxes/Sharon before this episode, but it’s just so… right. And Xerxes went from Xellos clone to interesting in just two episodes.

I really really love this anime. I’m glad you’re blogging it, you taste is awesome.

  3. As for Ada’s mysterious “transformation,” it’s probably got a little to do with her growing up the only child. Especially since Oz’s father despised his very existence, Ada’s childhood was much sweeter, so to speak, than her MIA older brother.

Yeah, she’s a stereotypical blonde (and my least favorite character), but that’s not so bad, is it?

As for the students having something to do with the Alice…well, not in the way I think you’re thinking, but that was a piano version of the pocket watch’s tune. I have my own theories, but they’re still a little spoiler-ish.

I can’t wait until the next episode, though, with a certain-someone’s intro!

  4. Yeah. I was a bit uncomfortable also about Ada’s character design but I think it did what it was set out to do, which was shocked us. I mean besides Gil, the whole cast’s appearance remained the same, so we really didn’t appreciate the fact that ten years has passed.

Can’t wait for the next episode. One of my favorite character in Pandora Hearts will finally make an entrance. ^^

  5. Um, you misinterpreted one or two things. First, Break has also been in a time skip, but not the same one Vincent and Gil were in. Actually, that isn’t revealed until a bit later so I’ll hold my tongue but Break’s reasons for wanting to know what happened 100 years ago are still largey unknown.
And second, what do you mean that Sharon might be dead? Didn’t you see her beating up Break with the pillow and the fan?

  6. I was a little surprised at how they didn’t cut the art with Break/Sharon/Echo thing. There was a bit changes here and there that I don’t really like since it may change the emotions of the series but whatever; Warner Bros themselves has shown that not all amazing books adaptation can fill everything in *looks at the sixth Harry Potter*

Back to the episode; Oscar and his wtfness… it’s always 10 times better with the audios and moving pictures on xD Not too happy with Ada’s voice, it hurts my speakers. Other parts are nicely done beside the ones I’ve mentioned.

    Preview comments: *clicks tongue* Ahaha…
