Short Synopsis: The old guy goes after Teito as Mikage faces the decision between Teito and his family.
Episode Rating: 7,5/10 (Good)
So, this is where the shounen-ai elements pop up, with Mikage and Teito wanting to see each other that badly, up to the point where Mikage chooses protecting Teito over his family. But really, the relationship between the two of them isn’t that bad, and it doesn’t get in the way of what’s really important in this show at all.
It overall was still a pretty good episode, especially with all of the stuff surrounding the old guy, who turns out to be a ghoul. The fight against him was really well written: it had impact, and at the same time there were lots of things going on. I’m interested to see what role the Ghouls will have in the rest of the series: with such a considerable amount of time devoted to them, there has to be some link between them and Ayanami.
And that mermaid… I’m not exactly sure what to think of her since her introduction was pretty strange. All we know is that she has two different forms (probably one under water and one for out of water), she likes Teito but hates Frau. That probably is a subtle hint for at least something, but I can’t exactly put my finger onto what.
WHAT?! Mikage chose Teito? From what I remember from the manga, he chose neither/both (in other words, both are equally important to him)!!! Aaaaaahhh!!!!
Anime seems to want to cater to shounen-ai fans somehow
but still, it seemed to have been a good episode. Hehe
Hmm, it could be that I misunderstood that part with my limited Japanese, though. But I’m still surprised at the lengths he’s willing to go through not to betray Teito.
“But really, the relationship between the two of them isn’t that bad, and it doesn’t get in the way of what’s really important in this show at all.”
I’m pretty sure the relationship between Teito and Mikage serves as part of the backbone to the plot as a whole… I don’t think it’s POSSIBLE for it to ‘get in the way’ of anything, it being so integral to Teito’s personal journey. Though they are playing it up in the anime.
Oh, the mermaid can shape-shift her upper body to look like any person she wants. XD I’m not sure if this is a spoiler or not, but in the manga….
she shape-shifted to look like Mikage. Poor Teito fell for it too. LOL XD;;;
uhh…ya…y did mikage chose his bff instead of both…and like…y didnt the bishops…u no…tries to understand teito’s desperation even for a lil bit…i mean…its QUITE apparent with how teito is willing to make a contract with some1 unknown to him…hell…he even said the reason out loud…o…w.e…they’re all nuts…hee hee…this episode got me hooked…
i think that…frau loves teito…he doesnt no that…and uhh…naturally…since the mermaid wanted a piece of teito, she hates frau…i just hope this part of the story doesnt distract the main parts…im also crossin my fingers that this doesnt turn into gundam seed(did i spell it rite?)…anyways…we could always hope…that it doesnt rite..???
I just saw the subs and yeah, in the anime, Mikage chose his best friend.
Uuuuggghhh . . . it wasn’t like that in the manga. What is the anime thinking?! =_= it’s like making mikage a little out of character. aarrghh . . .
but putting that aside, yeah, it had been a good episode.
Wait a second – so (in general terms) if it’s more than friendship between two boys/men, then it’s bad, and if it’s just some kind of bromance, then it’s A-OK? Or did I just misunderstood what you wrote? I’m sure you didn’t mean for it to sound this way, but it kind of did. This is btw. coming from someone, who doesn’t care about any romance at all as long as there is a solid story, but I just found that comment a bit unfitting, that’s all.
so what exactly does ayanami want from mikage? he keeps saying choose between teito and family but it’s not like mikage has anything to say or reveal. and i don’t understand why teito still has chains on his arms and legs. you would think they would have taken them off by now

Pretty much, if you want to get offended over someones preferences of NOT watching shounen-ai, go to some yaoi/yayoi bloggers site

That would be too bothersome, as I really don’t watch yaoi :). Preferences don’t offend me, it sounded to me, like it was meant in more general terms. If that’s not the case, then sorry for bringing it up.
