Short Synopsis: Natsume teams up with a bunny-youkai in order to get rid of an evil spirit.
Overall Enjoyment Value: 7,5/10 (Good)
It’s really good to see this series back again, and I’m interested whether the second season will be able to top the first season. Unlike shows as Shikabane Hime and Birdy the Mighty, there’s no real clear distinction between the first and second season of this series, but this really is the point where the show is going to have to evolve.
I think that the episodic storylines have already hit their height with the Hotaru-episode, but there’s still plenty of potential left for when a big storyline appears, so I’m keeping my eye out for Natori. Until that happens, I’m going to enjoy the stories as they flesh out Natsume and Nyanko-sensei, along with the setting. And laugh at Nyanko-sensei’s antics, of course.
This episode definitely showed a side of the world that we haven’t seen yet: where do evil spirits come from? This episode shows that most spirits start out without any malicious intentions, but some sort of grudge can turn them into evil one. Just as how one act of kindness can have a huge impact on them, they’ll never forget an act of malice and these acts influence them very strongly. I’m not exactly sure about the difference between regular Youkai and things like Nyanko-sensei, who behave very un-youkai-like, though I think that that’s because he’d had a lot more to experience, whereas most Youkai simply stay at one spot.
This episode may have been a bit too cheesy at the end and one-sided on the environmentalism messages, but nevertheless Gen was an adorable character, especially since he spent most of the episode in the form of a snow bunny. ^^; I liked the comment that Nyanko made at the end of the episode: youkai aren’t as fragile as you’d think.
I’m not sure whether I’m going to continue with HorribleSubs’s releases for this series. Sure, it’s nice to watch this show with subtitles for once, but I miss Natsume Yuujinchou in HD. ^^;
The show is upscaled, the native resolution for it should be 480p.
How horrible is horrible subs? I’m so tempted to watch them, but so far I’ve been patient..
Well, they’re not that bad. They’ve got a pretty large resolution and the quality is average. The only annoying part is that they choose ugly fonts for their translations. It’s only that I’ve been used to watching this series in HD, so that’s a difference that you will notice.
Actually the Horrible Subs are rips from crunchyroll.
Hm I don’t if this show will live up to your hopes of surpassing season 1 since really its closer to a continuation than of a brand new start, or close to a brand new start. Overall, the series is too loosely connected for me, but Hotaru was actually the chapter after the black Nyanko-sensei chapter XD. In any case I’m more excited for Natsume’s egg~
Finally it has started again, and it’s keeping it’s feeling nicely. I will definately follow this again. 😀
Wonder who the new girl is?
New girl is an omnyojist, yes another one for Natsume he meets a bunch of them.
And it looks like my guess was right Natori’s hotspring episode XD will be shown, in fact its next. Hm I wonder if Reiko’s chapter will be shown or Hinoe. I really just can’t help but wait to find out which chapters are being animated.
BTW I don’t understand though by
“This episode may have been a bit too cheesy at the end and one-sided on the environmentalism messages”
I don’t particularly think the last scene with flowers had to do with environmentalism, I think the last scene more or less focused on a positive note of seeing the tri-color rainbow near Gen’s statue. In fact its not like lack of environmental care was the root cause just villagers who needed an outlet. Care to expound on that, since I don’t particularly think the show was imposing on that (mention of acid rain was more of a way of skepticism).
And horriblesubs are horrible as they’re just rips from CR (as they find joy in challenging the site.) XD. The CR “revolution” will be interesting to watch, too bad you can’t watch most shows if you’re not in the U.S. but the reactions to it sure is more interesting to see.
Ah, that sentence was worded pretty badly. What I meant was that the scene with the evil humans who turned Gen’s girlfriend evil were a bit too one-sided, and the conclusion simply was cheesy, and had indeed nothing to do with environmentalism. ^^;
i thought bss fansubs this series in hd
Renz: that’s possible, indeed, but I’m usually very impatient and tend to go for the first version of the episode I see. ^^;
Yeah, Horrible Subs disappoint me. You can always rewatch it later if you choose to though.
Yeah I’m usually willing to wait for BSS in this case. Sometimes get impatient and go for whatever is first available though.
Thought it was a good episode that carried on themes from the first season well. Not that surprised about the villagers. When times are bad people get pissed and vent at whatever they can. Just surprised they only smashed Sui and left Gen be.
Finally I have catched up with Natsume Yuuchin.chou.
Alright. I really like the new opening and ending, I also liked them before too.
You descriped the feeling of the ending really greatly, and that’s pretty much how I feel about it. Natsume first walking alone and then all his friends footsteps and they themselves starting to walk along with him. 😀 I like the music with them too quite a bit.
The first episode was great and the second was nice too, I wonder what we will see this season for Natsume. The opening seems to hint on some things…
Can’t for the following episodes. I myself am usually watching Raws for this show, but in better quality than Horrible-Raws or Subs.
