Short Synopsis: Fan Hulic and Miranda attack Alses’ mansion to rescue Lyra.
Overall Enjoyment Value: 8/10 (Excellent)
And so this episode quite forcefully removes the last fear I had against this series: the fear that the cheesed up romance between Fan Hulic and Lyra would ruin the series. The creators first proved me wrong by making their reunion actually adorable, rather than annoying, and if that wasn’t enough already they then proceeded to actually kill her off from the show! So that’s what that sequence in the ED meant, where she is covered in thorns: it wasn’t to symbolize that she’s the eternal damsel in distress of this series, but rather that she never could live a really peaceful life.
This really was the episode to show that, even though everyone’s dressed in frilly clothes and drinks tea when going into battle, the creators mean business. Alses losing his eye is the perfect example of that, and I think that this really is the perfect closure for the first half of the series: it’s been quite dull at times, but nevertheless it knew exactly how to build up, and the real meat of the eries is about to start, with Fan Hulic finally hating Tytania enough to fight against them seriously.
I feel that Alses losing his eye is going to trigger a snowball of reactions within Tytania, which is going to really upset the balance they have created so far. Salish is going to have to deal with a deranged brother, Idris lost one of his lackeys, and Ariabart and Jouslain are also probably not going to sit still after these events.
Its quite sad that the reniuon and death were in the same episode..i just cant belive that alses survived yet lyria died? CPR anyone?
oh well i still enjoyed the show and its a good thing i wasnt too attached to lyria hence the death wasnt as emotional (she hasnt appeared enough in the series for that).
over all i loved the episode but then realiseed i missed episode 11 whcih is why i got confused when i watched it RAW 😛
i hope from here on out we see what fan hulic is really made of…but i hope he does fight just for revenge? i mean it will cloud his judgement..leading to losses…
I agree it was necessary for the plot to progress, considering how much time passed before Fan took any real action, and it was becoming a little too predictable.
Now it should be interesting to see what happens next. Fan should be initially successful but Tytania probably won’t just fall over and die, even if they might be weakened to the point of giving Jouslain a shot at becoming Clan Lord, regardless of whether someone else gets to that position first.
Some nice political intrigue should come up on that front. To be honest, that’s why I’m almost hoping Fan doesn’t get to win in the end.
I haven’t seen 12 yet but from stuff I picked up from episode 11, I was afraid Lira would be killed off. Fan vaguely reminds me of William Wallace from Braveheart. If he had successfully rescued Lira, I think he would have taken her off to a backwater somewhere and settle down out of sight of Tytania forever. *PLOT SPOILERS* Did the Doctor have anything to do with Lira’s death? He hinted earlier that he sought to goad Fan into a serious confrontation with Tytania and Lira’s death would work perfectly for that purpose. I suppose it’s predictable but I’m still mighty disappointed that Lira got killed. I would have liked a more positive outcome. Long term, I agree that it’s unlikely that Fan can beat Tytania but I hope he can at least take Idris down with him. Best case scenario I can think of is him somehow beating Idris and taking his place as a Duke of Tytania. Worse case scenario is that this incident twists him into a cruel villain, the same way the apparently tyranical Tytanians, the lead characters of this show, have been getting shown in a more sympathetic light (except for the scheming Idris).
Spoiler @ Dis:
Nah, she was killed by Alses’ cute little fishes, in an attempt to take Alses with her (which failed, and only made him lose an eye).
Braveheart 2: Braveheart in space
Best ep of the series so far, I didn’t expect this, Lyra’s death I mean, it also occured so fast, in a blink of an eye she was dead, it’s the most tragical one too, I was sorry for her! This will trigger Fan’s thirst for revenge and his will to destroy Tytania and its whole system ! The photo of Alses, Salish and their mother also arised my interest toward those characters a great deal. I mean the family they were is going to break apart soon, and it’s interesting to imphasize the difference between the cute little boy Alses used to be to the man he’s grown up to be. Anyway, I really like this character, he seems to be crazy but yet he has that smth in his personnality that clearly makes him stand out from the others. Anyway this ep has shown the climax of the first part of this series!
Having seen Legend of Galatic Heroes before I really expected it to turn out like it did the moment Lyra was caught. In the end she turned out to be a mere plot devise for the development of Fan’s personality, which was sourly necessary. He completely lacked attitude for being Tytania’s main antagonist. Eventhough I have to admit they made Lyra’s death fairly emotionally gripping, despite her lack of screentime.
I wouldn’t bet Alses will outlive her for very long, seeing next episode’s preview. Yoshiki Tanaka has the habit of killing of nearly everybody. I wouldn’t get attached to much to anybody, as if it progresses anything like Logh, nobody is safe.
If Alses really should die, things should get interesting with Tytania’s side aswell 🙂
