Casshern Sins – 11

Short Synopsis: Casshern gets himself stuck in trouble, and Frender needs to find help to save him.
Overall Enjoyment Value: 8/10 (Excellent)
I remember noting that there weren’t enough males in this series that Casshern would run into. Well, somewhere along the line the creators seem to have listened, because this episode exactly offers the demographic that has been missing so far: male humans and robots, human children and human woman. It’s really one of those episodes that restore the balance in this series. It’s not among the best episodes of the series, but yet I really liked it.

I also love how Casshern only has two or three lines through the entire episode: this really was an episode where he was just someone who watched from the sidelines, and it was about the group of humans and robots who travelled together, in search of Luna. We learn that despite the upcoming destruction, there’s still a large amount of trust among them.

It also becomes clear that robots with strong wills are able to survive longer than most other ones. Well, that explains why Dio is still in one piece: he really is set on defeating Casshern.

Interestingly, this was another one of these episodes that surprised me about how long its airtime really is. I only felt like I’ve watched this episode for just ten minutes, instead of twenty.

  1. I really became disapointed with this episode. What with the animation? And the music in the end? And what with those long and boring dialogues? Did Casshern Sins became Naruto? It lost the air of mistery, of quietudiness. Episode 12 was another disappointment. They’re destroying all the aspects that turned Casshern Sins so great.

  2. @Gustav: Um I’d just like to ask what show you’re talking about o.O Casshern SINS has a lot of long dialogue, and I don’t think 11 particularly changed that. If anything 11 may have had far less emoing since Casshern was generally absent but in any case it still fits in with the theme of trying to survive in the world of ruin. As for mystery I don’t see it evaporating any less in this episode as we wonder more and more about the Luna rumor, as well as wonder whether conviction truly is the reason why the Ruin hasn’t started in other characters. I do think this episode was just as quiet as the others in that the main character still seems to generally be an observer (albiet one that couldn’t talk since he’s a dog).

  3. That song (“Aoi Kage”?) suddenly playing at the end, as Jin gave his answer, felt kind of stupid for some reason. I agree, this episode has got to be the worst so far, counting episode 12.

Well, it’s “the Friender episode”. At least, that’s out of the way. It could’ve been better, but what’s done is done. I just hope that episode 05 wasn’t already “the Lyuze episode”, and I’m looking forward to the Ohji and Leda “episodes” – and I hope those won’t get as badly handled as this one.

  4. Well, i think i didnt explain myself too well.

Did you watch “Hero”, with Jet Li? Well, thats a movie for a few. Even the silence has a meaning. You need to feel the silence, the air, te spirit of the movie. Casshern Sins was the same.

It was like a samurai, whose spirit remains calm even in battle. In Casshern, nothing changes because of the battles. The music, the air, the feel… All remains the same.

But in the last episodes, they changed things. New musics in the “climax”, dialogs that explain more than needed, etc. In the previous episodes, the dialogs were subtle, letting the viewer take his own conclusions. Now, they tried to explain everything, and it became boring.

I really hope that Casshern come back to the way it used to be. And I really hate that new music. Disgusting.

  5. It’s not new. It’s been the BGM for the “list of sponsors” segment of the show – whatever that’s called. It has been okay as such, but they pushed it too far by using it in the episode itself AND with the vocals.

Disgusting? Well, I’m sorry to tell you that when I visited the official site a few days ago, there was a video in which a guy (probably the artist) is talking about the song. What that tells me is that they’re more or less pretty proud of it – which means that we’re likely to hear more of it in the episodes to come.

I get the feeling that this is how it’s gonna be everytime the episode is one of these “fillers” featuring a male robot. I knew that these fillers were a bad idea to begin with. I wish I could say that hopefully there won’t be much of these episodes anymore as the main story gets moving again with the 13th, but with still half of the entire series to go after that, it’s simply just too unlikely.
