Natsume Yuujin-Chou – 07

Short Synopsis: Natsume meets a young fox-spirit.
Highlights: That fox-spirit was SO adorable.
Overall Enjoyment Value: 8,5/10
Seriously, this series just keeps getting better and better. I couldn’t call Kurenai among the best that Brains Base has produced, but Natsume Yuujin-chou is definitely among their best work, along with Baccano. Incidentally, they were both directed by the same guy, the one who also directed Jigoku Shoujo. The result is an excellent characterization that really makes this series come alive.

The little fox-spirit was so incredibly adorable in this episode. It yet again enforced how one meeting for a youkai means much more than what it does for a human, and the fox-spirit, even though she’s so young, is brave enough to come and look for Natsume (who lives in a different town) to make sure that he isn’t lonely. That’s so sweet.

It’s a huge shame that there only seem to be 12 or 13 episodes, considering that this series is occupying Vampire Knight’s timeslot (which will be taking over the timeslot again when October starts). It’s too damn short for such an awesome series. It’s a shame that Brains Base series are only one season long, because this series has enough material for 13 more episodes.

  1. The fox-spirit is a boy. ^^;; At first I also thought he was a girl, but then he said “boys don’t cry!” so, apparently…

    Anyway, this must be my favorite anime series so far this year. I’ll be very sad when it’s over, and IMO it’s a damn shame that such an awesome show as this is not more popular. (It could be a perfect family show, yet it airs at night… :/ a shame, really.)

  2. Actually, Anime News Network doesn’t really tell us how many episodes there will be. There isn’t a solid number yet. But it only shows us 13 episode titles. Heck, remember how Shion no Ou was supposed to be 12 episodes, but as it got popular it got extended to 22? Let’s hope Natsume Yuujinchou gets the same treatment because it’s also my favorite show of the season (and the only summer anime I’m watching because I have MANY other series to finish up)!

  3. omg, that was a boy? Hehe, I never saw that one coming. ^^;

    Firechick: yeah, the big problem is that Vampire Knight will be starting in October, but let’s hope that Natsume Yuujin-chou will swap timeslots when that happens. Mokke did the same once, if I remember correctly.

  4. yep. i also thought this would’ve been about 24-26 episodes since theres so much u can do with this series. I really hope there might be a 2nd season but who knows.

  5. I also have to agree. That little kitsuneko was SO FLIPPING CUTE!!! I LOVE this episode to death!! There need to be more characters like Takashi and the adorable wittle kitsune!

  6. This episode and the one before are the ones I most loved, since Natsume showed so much heart in both. And the little fox was just to cute and adorable. I am almost mad for Vampire Knight who will take over. Natsume deserves more. Why are all the good-make -you -think -and -ponder animes in the summer?

  7. Another cute and very relaxing episode. I felt bad for the little fox-spirit whenever he would talk to his mum’s grave and the loneliness he must have suffered because of it. But most of all I enjoyed how even the little things go a long way to brighten up someone’s life. This series really reminds me of idyllic summers I spent in Okinawa. A shame this series so short, though.

  8. lolz, the cute fox is actually a boy. 😛 but that makes me love him even more!*excuses self due to overload of fangirliness*
