Kaiba – 07

This episode was absolutely incredible. There’s probably no better way to say it. It’s one of those very rare episodes that just blew me away due to its sheer awesomeness. Everything Kaiba has been building up to has come together perfectly. Seriously, Kaiba right now has actually a chance of surpassing Haibane Renmei as my favourite 13-episode series, if it continues on at this pace.

Seriously, in seven mere episodes, Kaiba did what other series usually takes other series 20. When I first learned that Masaaki Yuasa would direct this series, I had my doubts, seeing as Kemonozume, Mind Game and Cat Soup were all good, but seemed to lack something, though Kaiba really shows that he’s evolving as a storyteller, and Kaiba is the work of a genius.

Vanilla, sacrificing himself for Kuroniko indeed had it coming, and I haven’t forgotten the horrible things he did in the first and second episode, and yet his end was so incredibly sweet. The guy knew full well that Kuroniko didn’t like him, and he only got this confirmed with her disgusted look after he kissed her, after which he planned to send her away, back to the planet where it all began in the first episode.

And then Neiro’s past. Her memory is a bloody mess, and it’s especially interesting to see Hyo-hyo being so shocked about it. We now know that it’s got something to do with Neiro, but it wasn’t aware of what exactly was done to her. There are also more Hyo-hyos than just Hyo-hyo, so I guess that it was just assigned to do a simple task: keep an eye on Warp, and I have reason to believe that that ostrich was also part of the complot.

I suspect that, assuming that everything Kaiba saw inside of Neiro’s memory came in chronological order, Warp once got attacked by Kaiba, and got his memory copied of some sort. That’s how Kaiba was born, and Kaiba was the one who got close to Neiro and fell in love with her, at the displeasure of Warp, so he tried to shoot her, like we saw in this episode. I have no idea how Neiro managed to survive, but if I had to guess, then Popo came to their rescue. He then messed with the memory of both of them, in order to manipulate them. I’m not sure what kind of purpose Kaiba has in his plans, though.

Oh, and I HATE TENNIS. Two freaking weeks without Kaiba!? $#!!$#$!@!@!!!

  1. Do you think if we kidnapped Ureshii we could open underground fansubbing mines on Mars?

  2. I really have to get better at understanding japanese.
I am addicted to Kaiba; but the subs are very lame since there aren’t that much people watching this show (the last sub was released two weeks ago).

I haven’t expected such a great show like this. Episode 3 had one of the best drama scenes I ever saw. If you ask me, this show is a masterpiece.

  3. The Tennis will give subs an oppurtunity to catch up, which is nice.

But goddamn, I hate sport anyway, they don’t have to ram it in out faces by hijacking our favourite shows.
I mean, the sheer concept that watching two people hit a green ball backwards and forwards just to get imaginary numbers is exciting – that’s retarded.
The fact that this somehow overwrites plot and artistic values is a fallacy of the human race.

  4. thanks to this all 7 ep. were subbed

how can people not like any kind of sport i understand that they don’t like some but not even one or at least practice some sports in real life, just watch some of the last games of this tennis open and u will see that it is not as bad as some say and what the players do is neither easy so at least people should respect the sport they play

  5. SPOILER? or just a guess?

Something nagged me. As you said, Popo indeed messed up Neiro’s memory in the first episode with that black paint. But i have read again the review of that first episode in Cinnamon ass blog, then have just seen it again: Neiro’s memory must have been copied in Hyo Hyo in secret. Hyo hyo excitation makes a lot of sense now, seeing how much she wants to remove that black paint on her “original” messed memory :o…

  6. Hey Popo’s silhouette covered Warp/Kaiba’s face in all of the good pictures. That’s curious eh?

  7. Loved the episode, heartbreaking and warming at the same time, not to mention the large amount of revelations made it so cool. I wouldn’t mind Kaiba being on hiatus for a real sport or the cool High School Baseball Championship, but Tennis…really?

  8. A sad end for Vanilla, who was probably my fav character. I always considered what he did in Ep 1 humorous and helpful rather than horrible (he did prevent that other guy from getting on the ship), but you can’t excuse the stuff he did on Ep 2. I turned out to really like the guy, since he was quite the interesting character.

Although, I’m starting to get confused between Warp and Kaiba, and which one fell in love with Niero, and which one shot her. Sure, I read your prediction, but I can’t be quite sure.

At least I don’t have to wait two weeks for the next two episodes.
