RD Sennou Chousashitsu – 02

As usual, the shows I’m not blogging this season:
– I’ve heard many diverging opinions about the manga of Vampire Knight. The arguments against it say that the manga is just your average angst-fest, and how it’s nothing special. The only argument in favour of it that I could find was “Bishies! Bishies! Bishies!” Really, just as with Haruhi Suzumiya, it feels like the fans are hyping the wrong parts of the series!
– Monochrome Factor is really weird, though the main female lead gets really on my nerves.

In any case, it was pretty obvious that I’d end up blogging this series. Personally, I LOVE series with a high amount of imagination, and RD has along with Kaiba been the most imaginative series of the new season. It’s going to be difficult as usual to try and understand it, but I see this as an interesting challenge.

The OP also rocks, and the ED as well. In any case, this episode shows us more about the female heroine Minamo Aoi and it introduces the concept of cyber-diving, as the power of the house for the elder-care needs to be restored. Meanwhile, Masamichi is still an old man (I like how this series doesn’t play all of its trumps in the first two episodes, yet packs a punch).

It turns out that Minamo grew up in Australia with her grandmother, while her mother worked on the “Metal” in Japan. If I had to guess, then she came to work at the home for elders because of her brother (Souta) and her mother’s influences. But I think that the fact that her grandmother used to know Eiichiro and Masamichi also played a role. She also turns out to be someone who likes to learn a lot, although she is your typical girl who hit puberty. Still, she isn’t as annoying as some of her counterparts, and my only real gripe with this series is the really strange placement of fanservice. We get random crotch-shots, panty-shots that come out of nowhere. That’s not something I expected from Production IG and the director of Chevalier. I mean, they had nudity before, but it has always felt rather natural up till now.

There’s also one bit that I failed to pick up: why did Minamo’s grandmother age, while Eiichi still looks the same as he did, fifty years before? Is this because some people have access to better health-care facilities than others?

  1. OMG whats wrong with her face..its like an over sized balloon! I hope IG don’t disappoint me with this, I loved the quality the first episode started with.

  2. On the contrary i find the animation and art stile very refreshing, the problem lays in the eye of the beholder, and maybe because we are so used to one type of body image in anime, but that is just my opinion. On the reason for droping the shows above 1)Vampire Knight is not the bishies, but the construction of the story itself,it has plot holes every where, regresive character development, to many characters that are undevelop and the author just keep adding more of them,
it’s a monthy manga with 43+ chapter of nothing that will push the plot foward, just questions, and still the author pretends us to take the manga seriously, did i said emo teens already.
sorry if i sound to harsh with the manga, but i just mentioning some points that are too
evident, but again the art is very above shoujo averange and that may blind some. it doesn’t help that i have to figh legions of fan girls with the obvious ether 2) On monochromatic i read the first 3 volumes just
for kicks and well the manga doesn’t know what to be, my japanese is limited but by judging by the acction you pretty much can guess what happening, since manga is suppose to be and eassy read of curse exepcions apply. sorry i ended up with a “post” rant X.X,but that why i like your blog so much because you are able to grasp those details even if i don’t agree with you once in a while lol, but hey most of the time you are spot on XD.

  3. Nice to see someones blogging the show, seeing since the previews nearly no ones even mentioned RD, and no groups I’ve seen yet seem to be handling it.

  4. thank goodness you are covering this show. I’m surprised that no one took RD up, given the exceptional production values and the unconventional story (old ppl more often play as robotic props in most anime). i’m hoping against all odds that someone could produce subs…

  5. Thanks for blogging RD too. I wonder why bloggers nowadays doesn’t like to blog serious or complicated shows. So thanks again for blogging almost every shows I watch (and yeah , also coincidentally not blogging the shows I thinks not worth watch)

For vampire Knight , I still doesn’t see why people are amazed with it. I know the artwork is beautiful that it will make you forget how underdeveloped the characters are. But if you are ones who read mangas or watch animes for good plots and stories , this show is the one that you will drop right away after waking up from the pretty art and bishies’illusions .
