Well, ignoring the fact that the animation basically went south (such a shame that the animation-budget ran out, right before the ending of this series), this was a really solid aftermath, that basically did everything it needed to do to provide enough closure to the youngsters of this series. Jean and Shushu reunite Gavroche with his two younger brothers, and the three of them come to live along with Jean and Cosette. Later in the episode, they’re also admitted to a school, so that they can study properly. Marius meanwhile wakes up, and has to face the hard truth: out of all of Les Amis, he’s the only one left. I loved how mature Cosette was in this episode, taking care of both the injured Gavroche and providing the right support to Marius. The two of them really are a couple, and I love the realistic way in which they’re portrayed. The thing is, though: there are five episodes left with this, and this episode alone would already have been enough to provide closure for this series. There’s still something that’s about to happen, but what? I can imagine how Thenardier is going to return for a final time, and it would be awesome if Javert, Thenardiére and Azelma got some more screen-time as well. I seriously have no idea what the creators have left in store for the final part of this series, but let’s hope that the animators will get themselves back together and finish this series off with a bang.]]>
Don’t take this as a spoiler, since you’re quite certain of it anyway, but yes, Thenardier will definetely be making a significant reapearance.
Can’t really say what will happen to Javert, Azelma & Madame T. now. In the book, Javert has obviously committed suicide, and I think it’s hinted that the Thenardiess died in prison. I don’t think the fate of Azelma is ever revealed. (Again, anyone who knows may check me, I’ve only skimmed through that part of the book.) Considering how much had been changed for the anime, though, there’s really no way of telling what will happen. Even as less popular characters, it’d be nice to have some closure for them, too. There’s five flipping episodes left, after all! Sheesh.
I have to admit, though, that the Gavroche-and-company-living-with-Cosette-and-Valjean scenario is the Disney-esqe ending I feared the anime would come to. It’s not horrible, but certainly not what Hugo had in mind. He may not be turning in his grave, but he might be rolling his eyes. ^^,
I really hope Javert doesn’t make a comeback. I don’t think I’d be able to bear it. >.>
I can kind of understand Cosette adopting the two momes, though – Victor Hugo never did say what happened to them, and no-one really knows why he failed to wrap up that storyline when he wrapped up all the others so neatly. I think I read an essay that proposed that he did so so that the reader would remember that there are still kids like them out on the streets, with no Gavroche to look after them, and that made sense to me.
Anyway, I was definitely expecting that. xD; It is, like you said, ridiculously fluffy, but that storyline had to be wrapped up somehow.
On a completely unrelated note, I think this may be the first adaptation ever that has included every single one of Les Amis, which is really pretty impressive – even the musical cut Bahorel! Nippon wins some points back from me for that. 😀
SPOILER ALERT FOR THE REST OF THE SERIES. MAYBE. WELL, SPOILER ALERT FOR THE BOOK, ANYWAY. xP
Yeah, the Thenardiess dies in prison. Thenardier takes the money Marius gives him as a result of their little confrontation and goes to America, taking Azelma with him. But I’m willing to bet that that’s not going to happen in the anime, given their propensity for Happy Endings. 😛
END OF SPOILERS.
Are you sure Bahorel is in there? He’s the bald one in the book, right? I know Laigle/Bousset is there, which is down right confusing. Which one is he?
I understand what you’re feeling, but it just doesn’t sit right with me to have Javert’s run to end right there. Perhaps it would seem more final to me if I actually SAW the episode and knew EXACTLY how it played out. I’m hoping to at least know what happens to him after he decides to let Valjean go, even if it’s just mentioned in conversation. Valjean should certainly find out what happened to him – he finds out in the book, for crying out loud! He should know Javert well enough to have difficulty believing that the inspector could let him go like that, after all those years.
Okay, here’s a SPOILER question (note: SPOILER ALERT!):
If Gavvy and the boys are adopted by Cosette & Valjean, what’s going to happen to them when Cosette and Marius get married? (To be honest, this shouldn’t be THAT much of a spoiler, I know, but just to be fair.) Perhaps Marius would not mind taking them into his home, but then again, I’m not really sure. Would Valjean take care of them by himself? And how exactly is the anime going to deal with Valjean’s fate?
END OF SPOILER
Still keeping my fingers crossed . . .
I’m certain – Marius mentions all of Les Amis by name in this episode, and there’s a brief clip of each one of them as he says their names. L’aigle/Lesgles/Bossuet is the one who’s bald in the book (so it kind of confuses me that he’s got a full head of hair and a beard in the anime); Bahorel’s the loud violent one in the book who has, like, no lines in the anime. xD But he’s there, which is the important thing!
I do agree that the Javert thing needs to be wrapped up somehow. I really want him to resign, like you said last entry – maybe that could be in the paper in place of his obituary.
RESPONSE TO THE SPOILER
I’m thinking that Marius will happily accept them into his home. After all, it seems like he did promise Eponine he’d take care of Gavroche in the anime, too, so he won’t mind Gavroche, and I don’t think he’ll mind the two momes either. M. Gillenormand and Valjean have got quite a lot of cash between them, so it’s not like Marius and Cosette don’t have the money to care for all three boys.
I hope they’ll keep things the way they should be in regards to Valjean. Maybe they’ll downplay Marius wanting Valjean to stay away, since that would make him unsympathetic. He’ll die at the end, though, I think – at peace and surrounded by Marius and Cosette and friends, etc., etc. At least, I think so.
Then again, I thought they’d keep Javert’s suicide in, so what do I know? xD
END SPOILERS
Oh my gosh, having Valjean pick up the paper and read the little section on Javert’s resignation, and act like, “What the hell?!” That would be SO AWESOME!
I didn’t know that Marius promised to take care of Gavroche (although that would better explain why he freaked out so much when Gavroche got shot), so yeah, I guess that would work. In the book they didn’t know each other as well, so it would have been less likely. Then again, Cosette didn’t really know Gavroche either, and Gavroche would be dead anyways so . . . there you go. ^^,
I don’t want the Thenardiess to die in prison. I’d rather she’d been released so she could take care of Azelma, It seems like her father doesn’t care about her, not much anyway. And it seems like she just want to live with her daughters and maybe Gavroche so I want them to live happily too. It would be nice to see Gavroche and his two brothers( which means they belong to the Thenardier family)living together with their mother and Azelma. Cause the Thenardiess really seemed to have remorse for having foresaken Gavroche ( while she was in jail). I don’t know for the other two boys, she’d never mentioned them. And I wonder if somrone would inform them about Eponine’s death. They don’t even know about it!I think they would be in such a shock! Both of them really loved Eponine. Well I’ll stop here or I going to cry. I just can’t think about her death without crying! I loved her so much too!

Her father cares enough about her to take her with him when he flees the country.
Also, why would the younger boys care too much about the death of someone they probably didn’t see since they were babies?
Actually, I’ve never said the boys cared about her death. I said it about her mother and sister!!!! They loved her very much!
I know very well that those two boys never knew their sisters, cause they’ve never met!
Eh, it is called Les Misérables for a reason. 😛
Well, I know, I didn’t put it well. But I just mentioned the two boys to say they could go to live with their family later on. I didn’t mean they knew Eponine. But I’ve just read my comment again and I should have done it before mailing it cause it’s just “by the way” that I mentioned the two boys. And when I wrote ” And I wonder if someone would inform them about Eponine’s death. They don’t even know about it!I think they would be in such a shock! Both of them really loved Eponine.” It was adressed to Thenardiess and Azelma. I wrote this comment to talk about them. Well, do you really think that I didn’t realize Eponine and Azelma have never met those two boys?! After watching it again and again?
I watched the trailer again for the next episode. Oy, I’m not so excited about it. I mean, it’ll be nice to see everyone be all friendly and reconciled and blah blah blah it’s SO BORING. Then again, I’m not a big Marius & Cosette fan. I don’t hate them or anything, they’re just . . . not that interesting. Oh and I noticed that this episode has the same name as a previous episode (back when they first met, I think). So what it is really, “Cosette and Marius II”? I hope this week goes by quickly. The next one is called “My Mother,” which sounds more intriguing.
Yeah, but it also promises more Gillenormand, which makes me happy (he’s one of my favorite characters).
Hi does anyone know where i can watch the anime all the episodes please i can’t seem to find it anywhere.
I would really appreciate it Thanks
HANG ON A MINUTE!!! (I’m sorry I haven’t actually seen the shoujo Cosette series yet but I am interested..) In the anime does Gavroche not die? (Sorry If no one knew he died outside of anime, by the way..)I’ll be quite sad If he doesn’t, since it is one of the most powerful scene ever) Will somebody please tell me? I must know! thanks!
FiFi: yeah unfortunately two deaths have been omitted: Gavroche’s and Javert’s.
Thanks, I needed closure for that. He’s my fave character. (Way better strret urchin than Oliver) But wait, Javerts too? That sucks! I guess if its for kids they don’t want the whole suicide thing huh… typical! Anyway, I’v e watched a few episoded now. but ive run out of them! Does anyone know where to get the rst with english subs?
Not all have been subbed, but you can find 8-18 through mega video.
