Saiunkoku Monogatari – 64

Now this is what I call an excellent episode! This arc is finally beginning to shine again after the countless episodes of building-up, and the main plot also finally gets moving into a very interesting direction. This was by far the best episode of the series yet, since the month-long hiatus back in August and September. There are three storylines that were important in this episode: the one about small Riou, the one about Suou and a new one, which has to do something with salt. If I understood things correctly, then someone is preventing salt-merchants to arrive in the capital, and Shuurei’s going to be busy for the next couple of episodes to try and sort that one out. The storyline that surprised me the most was that of small Riou, though: he’s big Riou’s son! Not only that, but he just hangs out with Ryuuki in the library like it’s nothing, even though both his brother and father went after Shuurei. I’m still curious about the relationship between big Riou and Ryuuki, as there doesn’t seem to be any hostility between the two of them. Tantan’s story featured some great build-up in this episode. He basically says his goodbye to Shuurei this episode by letting her play the erhu for him, because he knew that his father was going to drag him in another one of his plans. Could this have something to do with the salt? On a smaller note: Seiran remains absent in this episode, an Ki Kouki makes his first move towards Shuurei. Oh, and Shuurei and Ryuuki see each other again, and Ryuuki eats some of the lunch that Shuurei prepared.]]>

  1. don’t forget the Shuei line~ *tears* Ryuuki knows what’s on Shuei’s mind already (based on Ryuuki’s munching on the peaches…)

  2. ryuuki is still an idiot believing the kid he saw in the library is a hyou ghost. grrr. just when would he learn to grow up?

  3. Well, yes, but even then, Shuurei herself needs to have her priorities changed a bit in order to have him. Whether it be manga, novel or anime, there are a lot of aspects in her personality that has not exactly been realized. There are a lot of questions. What’s the connection of the Hyou clan to the Rose Princess and why does Riou Sr want Shuurei so badly? What is Riou Jr’s role in his father’s plot regarding Shuurei?
Ryuuki was all giddy when they were having breakfast thinking that they are like family where there were parents and a kid, but What is the role of the Hyou clan in all this? I mean, Ryuuki opened up about how he felt for Shuurei and Riou Jr told him blatantly that it is going to be very difficult chasing after her. Does that discouraging remark have to do with the fact that he is a Hyou? What is their function? What is their industry? Where do they keep their headquarters?
Honestly, I can’t wait for the next episode so I can post my other questions. hehehe I just wish there will be more people visiting this blog as well.
blogger has done quite a good job following the series and posting summaries. Thanks to you, by the way. I have just been barging in here, sometimes even posting some bits of spoilers, am sorry. 😀 I just find too difficult to wait for the ending sometimes. heehee
keep up the good work . 🙂

  4. KaeBoo-chan, all of your questions will be answered eventually in the anime. the novel is already ahead, so i know what’s gonna happen along with the relationships Shurei and Ryuuki has between the Hyou clan. let me just give a bit spoil for your sake – the Shi clan (Ryuuki and Seiran’s clan) are actually related to the Hyou clan directly, meaning they’re relatives. and about “Bara-hime” and the Hyou clan vs. Shouka-san, you have to read the full story about the “Bara-Hime Bedtime Story” that Shurei tells Ryuuki during her stay at the palace because it’s the story about “Bara-Hime” (Shurei’s mommy) herself and how she was chained by this evil clan (the Hyou clan) and how this one young man (Shouka-san) rescued her out to be free even though she won’t be able to use her godly powers anymore etc. *oops, too much spoiler* Shurei’s birth and her Mom’s death all has to do with the whole thing, and the rest i’ll let the story do the work.

  6. oops, i stand corrected… there are other blogs like this one that focuses on anime episodes and there are those that focus on the novels like that one in the link. and yes, it is charmian who blogs the novels.
sorry, sorry, sorry. can you edit the post, by any chance?

  7. Actually, I used to think Ren was Riou’s cousin, as he called Ruka his “mother”… but Shusui calls her “mother” too… maybe it’s because she’s sort of the matriarch of the Hyou Clan ?
