Announcing some site changes:

It’s time to announce some site changes: over the past months obviously a lot has changed. Star Crossed can’t continue on like it has been, because I just can’t write episodic posts anymore and in the meantime between me posting first impressions and finishing series the site will have quite a bit of inactivity. I just don’t have the time to fill this site with posts anymore. Fortunately in the past few months, I’ve been talking to a few very talented people (ninjarealist and k-off), and we’ve come to the following conclusion:

Star Crossed is going to become a multi-author blog.

The change will be gradual, but over the next season people will start posting episode reviews, first impressions, editorials and reviews along with me on this site. So from now on each post will have an author. This will bring more activity into the site.

  1. I hope psgels will still be involved in every review score though. That way, we can compare the new series with the numerous scores he gave in the past.

  2. GREAT IDEA!! I always loved the reviews here and use it a lot to get some extra info on anime i haven’t started yet! Glad there’ll be more activity again soon 🙂

  3. I’d love to write posts for this site myself, but school takes up too much of my time, and I haven’t watched as many anime as I’d like to.

  4. I’ve been following you for a few years, and I definitely didn’t saw this coming. Not that I’m not welcoming new reviewers,I’m happy that this site is still going, but the reason I’m still here is because I have similar taste as Psgels and I know what to expect from you coming here (one of the reasons why I don’t follow Randomc.net actively). And I really like how you make relations to other anime and staffs in your posts because you know really a lot. Well, we’ll see, I hope I have similar taste as the new bloggers. And whether I enjoy the change or not, I still hope that Psgels, you’ll write some posts from time to time (example the series final reviews and the seasonal preview posts, I miss your posts already).

    1. This is what I am worried about too. I’d like to think that Psgels would pick reviewers like himself since he should be aware of the niche he caters too.

  5. Awesome news!! While I do love reading/agree with the majority of psgels’s opinions and tastes, it’ll be interesting to see reviews from new eyes joining him! LONG LIVE STAR CROSSED!!!

  6. That’s a good idea. Best of luck to the new reviewers, although I hope that Psgels will also still be around at least a little. I find that the most useful posts for me currently tend to be the quick first impressions posts for the new seasons. (The older overall series reviews used to really useful for me, but then I worked my way through all the series that were reviewed and which appealed to me.)

  7. Hey, just want to say that I’ve been following the site silently for a while now, and agree with a lot of the sentiments here – I’m super glad you’ve been able to keep the reviews going for as long as you have, and really appreciate everything you’ve put into it. I too find my tastes fit a lot more with this sites than any other I found, and always use it as a guideline for what I’ll put time into watching. That’s all ^^ hope you’re able to keep it going for some time yet, even if it means changing things up a bit!

  8. I welcome the idea. It’s become pretty clear you don’t have the free time to keep up with all those shows on your own so it’s a logical decision. I actually expected you to semi-retire but that works out much better in my book.

  9. A bold yet necessary direction you had to take there I guess psgels. It will definitely be interesting to see different POVs on this blog from different writers. Still, hope that your taste and opinions on anime will still be preserved in this new course Star Crossed is taking. And welcome to the new writers, looking forward to seeing your posts.

  10. I just realized this blog is active again! Glad nothing bad happened to you while you were gone. Have you been disappointed with Cross Ange yet?

  11. I hope the new writers have similar tastes as you. I tend to like the shows you consider good so this site has been a great resource for finding new shows to watch.

    1. Agreed. I found a lot of shows I would not have found without this place.

      – Oh! Edo rocket (still one of the best mashup dramady in anime yet)

      – Amatsuki (queue Sarah McLachlan’s I will remember you, PS still waiting on second season)

      – Law of Ueki

      – xxxholic

      etc, etc…

I’m sure this place will stay classy. I have not always agreed with the reviews, but I’ve always respected your views and loved your thoughts about shows. Keep up the good fight, and I hope the best for the new writers.

  12. I’m excited for this! I’m pretty sure that the new bloggers here have similar taste to psgels, or else they wouldn’t have enthusiastically stuck around for so long in the shout box and comments. I would be happy to see Emma as part of your team too.

  13. @Tassia: I’m not sure about applying to work at this site just yet but I’ve given it thought. I would most likely cover sora no method and log horizon (as those are the only two shows I’m crazy about so far), though I think I am more adept at full reviews and monthly summaries and first impressions rather than by the episode.

  14. @Emma: I would want to read your blog posts of those shows if you were to write them. I’ve been more pumped for Log Horizon than for any other show this season, including Korra.

  15. Hey PSGels, could the new writers make a new page in the nav bar and just list down some of the anime they liked and disliked? It doesn’t have to be long, 5 would probably do, but at least we could have a perspective of what their recommendation means. The “potential” scores of few series that the site has covered are really different; e.g. a 50% and an 80% for Akatsuki no Yona.

    1. Hey Zeph, you can access my author bio here: http://psgels.net/author/ninjarealist/ It includes my top ten list. Not sure how informative that will be but maybe it will help you understand my perspective. I will also try to respond to as many comments as possible so if you have any serious criticisms of my opinions please put them in the relevant comments section and I will do my best to discuss them with you.

  16. Nice idea, Psgels! I think it’s the best you could do for this blog.
Looking forward to your reviews, Ninja and K-off! 😀

  17. Hey Psgels, long time lurker, rarely comment type here.

I’m glad the site will still go on, thank you for working out a way to still deliver to your audience.

While I don’t always see eye to eye with your judgements I really appreciate your approach. The type of anime you consider worth your time is usually a nice pointer into what might be of interest on a season to me.

I hope any reviewer helping doesn’t stray too far from that path, since a better selection of subject matter (taste level) and a bit of a more mature outlook is what distinguishes this blog from others in my opinion.

That said, it’s really cool to read first impressions on any show, hear why it is or isn’t what one could assume given the premise, source material and known staff or whether or not is worth anyone’s time. For that I’m glad you’ve picked collaborators. In the past these posts have helped me figure out which anime I should bother checking an episode or two of. It’s really useful since there are often shows with flashy promo art and what have you that may fool you thinking they may have something to offer only to tragically disappoint.

Anyway, godspeed! Thx for your efforts! And welcome (to doing this task at least) Ninjarealist and k-off! Looking forward to your posts!

  18. Long time!!! I haven’t visited this blog for a while because I stopped watching anime. Dropping by to say Hi. Things have changed! I used to follow you and Impz (and later Omni) starting with Saiunkoku Monogatari since subs were hard to get back then.

Good luck psgels. Here’s to old times 🙂
