It’s episodes like this that make me regret switching back to the raws for this series. I’ve often noticed that I’m usually able to follow an episode without subtitles if it’s around the middle or end of an arc, since you do somehow know what to expect. With introductions, the story is entirely different, though. I doubt that there was any episode in Saiunkoku Monogatari that introduced more new characters than this one, apart from episode 1, perhaps. I’m really reminded back to when I first started this series, and was virtually the only one who was following it. Back then, I really had no clue what was going on. ^^;
In any case, the previous arc was really there to introduce Suou, who seems to be a major character for the rest of the series. I think it’s because of him that Shuurei ended up back in the palace, to help him work off the punishment for what his father did, though I could be wrong. One of the few things I did understand of this episode was when Shuurei got fed up by all the males surrounding her and discovered that her supervisors were into pornography.
The truth indeed is that Shuurei is a bit uptight, and she definitely had an idealistic image of males, due to being together with Seiran and Eigetsu so often. It’s nice to see her witness some more… average males when they’re together. It’s a good thing Suou was with her, otherwise she would have lost it. ^^;]]>

well, tantan is one of the major characters in this section. please pay close attention to shuei’s actions towards himself and ryuuki (just giving you an attention guide so that you’ll understand the arc ^^) also pay attention to anyone in relations to shuei including syusui (but not kouyuu ^^6). because they all play important parts in this arc as well.
After I found out that the triplets are Shuuei’s brothers, I indeed figured that he might actually play a big role in this arc. It’s a good thing, because I can’t really recall having ever seen the guy be beyond a mere support role.
lol you just realized that shuei has older triplet brothers!? well, they’re the ones in charge of the clan right now ^^;

I read from a blog that is created by Charmian of saiunkoku paraphelia that Ryuki going to have a new love called Jyuushen-Hime which is really sad for all Ryuuki x Shuurei fans including me. You can read at chapter 12(2/2)
Ryuuki make it clear to Shuurei that as a real king he have to get married and he cannot wait forever for Shuurei.So he is giving himself a timeframe to win over her hand and if it doesn’t work, he will certainly marry Jyuushen-Hime who offer herself to him and Ryuuki have appointed her to inner palace replacing Shusui.
Really? ohhhh that’s so sad…. đ But in a way I’m happy for Ryuuki because he does deserve to be happy. I’m not done watching the first parts of this anime yet, and I haven’t read the novel summaries but I’m wondering how Shuurei will react to this? I hope she regretting it a bit…..doesn’t she have feelings for Ryuuki whatsoever? If not, then maybe he should move on…

In effect, Jyuusan-Hime is not a new “love”. She is offering herself as a consort but, she knows rather well that Ryuuki is inlove with Shuurei. She is just saying that as emperor, he would need heirs and he does not really need to marry for “love” and She is willing to take that role to support Ryuuki’s dreams and ambitions.
Shuurei, on the other hand, hearing what he said, saw Ryuuki grow up right before her very eyes.
Maybe, just maybe, she will soon realize that she has also fallen for him without even her eralizing it before, but what the heck!? Only the author knows what she really wants out of this story.
What I am waiting to see in the anime is the part that was acted out by the voice actors as shown on youtube… the part where Ryuuki told her that he is planning to get married soon. click here for that video It’s a hilarious scene, actually.
Still, the wait for the episodes catching up with the novels and the progress of those that have already been subbed just makes me more excited and it is killing me.

It’s so obvious we are spoiling the thing for psgels since we talk so much of the next storyline and I am feeling guilty for my evilness;)
Since Jyuusan-Hime is so willing to offer herself so Shuurei may consider to become those modern woman who prioritise career over love and rise above all the men who look down on her.
Since Shuurei will inherit some supernatural power from bara-hime so it should not be a problem even if she remain single for the rest of her life. This somehow parallel with Queen Elizabeth I, the virgin queen.;)
