Haha! It has finally started! For episodes, I’ve felt that the bomb was about to burst and this is the episode where it happens: the revolution has finally started! That’s one of the beauties of this series: you know things are about to happen, you’ll just never know the exact time.
In this episode, it was the side-characters who really shined, as they made their first steps into the revolution by building barricades everywhere. Even the elders like Mabru(spelling!?) and the youngsters like Gavroche helped a hand, which was so sweet to see. There’s also a pretty sad story behind Mabru: his wife dies in this episode, and he finally lost all of his books. In response, he doesn’t decide to mourn silently, but join the revolution. Quite a unique behaviour, though I loved it. Gavroche meanwhile leaves his little “brothers” at some kind of mansion, at a safe place.
And Javert! He finally catches his first glimpse of Jean after all those years, and at the end of the episode, we also see him disguised as one of the commoners. I’m not sure whether that was in the hope of seeing Jean back again, or a tactical manoeuvre to collect information about the enemy. I’m surprised he didn’t use any of his subordinates for this.
Meanwhile, Cosette and Marius keep getting more distanced from each other by the revolution and Eponine’s meddling. I wonder whether the two will be able to meet again, actually. The only thing that’s possibly going to stop Jean from going to England is a lack of boats to take them out of the country. Still, this could be a possibility. with such an unstable Paris at the time, I can imagine that most nobles would try and flee the country to England as well.
I’d also love to see Thenardier in this situation. Obviously, he won’t really play a huge role, since there’s nothing in the revolution for him, but it’ll be interesting to see him, trying to save himself amidst the chaos. It would also be awesome if the prison was somehow broken into during the revolution, releasing Azelma and Thenardiére.
Seriously, something tells me that the final quarter of this series will be the best of the entire series. I’m so looking forward to it!]]>
Les Miserables – Shoujo Cosette – 39
At last! When the anime started I was waiting for Enjolras and then for this moment! The baricades of freedom!
I hope that they’ll be loyal to the book, if they are it would be very wonderful.
The old man’s name is Mabeuf….I’m gonna really have to see this episode. And I’m looking forward to seeing how tihs part plays out.
Though, based on the preview on the website, and the screenshots here, I’m guessing they decided to aim for something more reasonable than just the nine ami’s + Mabeuf, Gavvy, Eponine, and Marius.
Hope Gavroche kicks arse in this part. *probly a bit spoilery*
I’ve got a few ideas of what’s going to happen to Gavroche, yeah. One particular scene in this looked a bit too much like a foreshadowing-scene.
The show is definitively coming to what should be the highlight of the book, I’m just wishing it won’t be too much censored.
Can’t say really much, since this part contains lots of spoilers, but this will surely be a great month for les miserables.

Cos … what highlight are you thinking of that might be censored? Does it involve a certain someone taking a night-time stroll, by any chance?
R – I don’t think it’s that – I highly doubt they’d censor that – as much as it is the revolution proper. Those tend to be a bit violent – revolutions, I mean. xD
I’m not exactly talking about someone being killed in the battles …
I know you aren’t, but I highly doubt they’d censor what you’re referring to. 😛 It’s kind of important, and all.
I’ve been wondering about that too, if I’m understanding you correctly. But I can’t imagine how they could change it without totally screwing up the plotline. I’m rather looking forward to it . . . sort of . . .

Well, judging by the previews for Ep. 45, I think there’s a good chance we’ll know how they handle it by then. 46 at the very latest.
Yeah . . . those sewers look NASTY! lol But if that event is covered in one episode (46 I’m guessing) just what are they planning to do for the rest of the time? They’ve still got at least six episodes to kill. Well, I guess if they have Gavroche live, figuring out what to do with him will take up some time.
I think they’ve still got of plenty of materiel to fill the remaining episodes. Thenardier’s final appearance, for one thing.
True, but I’d figured that that last bit would only take 3, maybe 4 episodes at the most. But, like I’ve said, the incorporation of Gavroche, if he continues to live past episode 45, will provide filler. There may be the teeny-tiniest possibility that the event we have been alluding to for the last 9 posts will be tweaked or altered in some way. (Think 1998 movie but with characters IN CHARACTER. *hinthint*) It probably won’t be. Food for thought, though, as we wait.
Oh, God, the Liam Neeson movie … never watched it myself. Too many reviews from fellow fans convinced me that it was something to stay far away from. I’d rather think 1978 movie in regard to what I hope for.
As for what I realistically expect? I don’t know. On the one hand, there has been some censorship in the series; on the other hand, it is, as Irene states, somewhat important.
I don’t like the way it happened in the 1978 version. Just . . . too sudden. Oh, wait, are you referring to what happened just before that? Well, yeah, that could work too. But I think I’d rather have it go by the book with a lot of . . . ahem . . . internal dialogue. Do you at least know how it happened in the ’98 version?
I mean both, really. I rather prefer the “show, don’t tell” approach of the 1978 movie. But to each his own.
It seems most of the movie versions do that to some extent. But then for people who have not read the book, the event may seem kind of confusing and they may think, “Wha?” But I guess that’s the approach used most often because it makes people think. Personally, I sometimes like having things more fully explained, so that we can see the depth and complexity of the situation. Not to the point of beating people over the head with it, of course (yes, Victor, I am talking to you). ^_^ But I think the internal monologue will work for this anime, since the technique has been used throughout the series. Just as a new way of doing it.
