Here is where you can see that the source material really has some problems: it’s revealed that the finale of the series will focus on Sakurasou shutting down. The big problem with that: it’s cliched as hell. I know it will lead to character development and all, but it’s just so standard. We’ve seen this and been there. It’s now up to the writers and animators to really make it stand out like what this series has always done. Did this episode provide a good start?
Um…. this episode had me very, very confused. It was just like the first episode… but without Shiina. Ryuunosuke made an appearance, even though he didn’t do that in the first episode. The weirdest thing is that this was a flashback in which nobody seemed to find it strange that things were suddenly incorrect.
This episode: it was a recap of the first episode, and yet it wasn’t. What the hell?
Rating: $#@!?/8 (Wut?)
It was more like recap of episode 0 than episode 1.
The first episode was Shiina’s first day at Sakurasou. Main dude was already at the house for a few months before Shiina came around. Alternatively, this episode was his own first day experiencing Sakurasou.
Psgels I think you confused. Sorata had already been a resident in Sakurasou; ep 1 was Shiina’s first day.
Maybe rewatch the ep with that in mind and reevaluate?
While I can’t confirm it, this might not be a source materiel issue. The novels are still ongoing and like you said this is a endgame kind of development. So it’s pretty possible that this Sakurasou shutting down business is just added into the anime to give it a climatic ending. Considering the way it came out of out-where I say it’s pretty possible.
@Highfinder: I had heard that the novels were finishing up. As for this episode I think its best that I tap out of the show here. This was a misplaced episode in string of ones which didn’t strike the right balance like earlier on in the show, the humour was funnier before but its worn thin and can’t cover for the drama which is lacking impact now.
There’s only 7 episodes left Kaiser. At this point you might as well finish it.
Also judging by the illustrations on the light novels the anime has only covered up to volume 5 of the light novels. There’s ten volumes so far.
Aren’t there even less, 5?
this is like the episode 15th of Sola : what happen to the main characters before they meet the main girl/heroine (Matsuri, or in Sakurasou case, Matsuri)
You remember sola? I thought I was the only one on here that had watched that one.
actually I just finished it yesterday…LOL. That’s why I still have fresh memory ’bout it.
Does anybody really think that the current arc is going to be the last one shown in the anime, considering how long all the others lasted? I’m agreed that this current arc isn’t looking so hot, though.
Anyway, I have no idea how somebody could confuse Sorata’s first day with Mashiro’s first day. wat? That said, I don’t think the first episode was that memorable at all, but clearly the context in the first episodes of the show was that Sorata already knew everybody else and wasn’t just moving in. Also, there were more cats already in episode 1.
I kinda expect that this used to be the first episode more or less, and then the director decided that in medias res would give a much better first episode. Hence adding this episode much much later in the series. And to be honest, I enjoyed learning how Sorata got into Sakurasou. Even more: When I read the introduction to this series I was very surprised to see a bunch of stuff of it missing in the initial episode.
A job well done.
