Aagh! The sister has returned!
She still sucks for being in love with her brother, but nevertheless I liked this episode a lot. We got introduced to Sorata’s hometown and to his parents, which does explain why he felt at home at Sakurasou so much, since his parents are completely weird. I laughed a lot at their antics in this episode, and especially Sorata’s father rocks.
Furthermore, this episode actually did try to make up for the horrible decision that this series made for allowing the sister to fall in love with her brother: what I had been fearing was that she too would end up in the same school as Sorata so that she’d be even more prevalent in this series, but in this episode it became clear that she probably won’t make the entrance exams. This really helped to put things into perspective, and also hinted that she will move on.
Especially in contrast with the rest of this episode, which focused on doing what you love to do for the one you love. Especially in the case of Misaki and Shiina, but the entire main cast has this. It again was full of little details, for example Misaki as she kept playing with the cat when she was down. That was actually really adorable. I also like this surprising relationship between Jin and the student council president. I did not expect that guy to get so much attention in this series, but the two of them work really well together. Now do the same thing with that one guy who has a crush on Nanami.

Liked this episode a lot more of what I tough I would. Things in this show really are better when they are inspirational and energetic, and not full of drama and Sorata screaming. The sister was still a little annoying, and not only with her sister complex, but in general she was much better this time (I don’t see a chance of her not passing the exam, though). The parents were great, kinda weird how those two awesome individual ended up with a pair of kids so… well, annoying.
Well, Sorata is dealing with Mashiro, which would try the patience of quite alot of people. I’d say that his interactions with Neinami are more representative of his normal character, absent the stress of dealing with Mashiro.
Yeah, given the sister and the whole setup for the episode, I was expecting a lot worse. This turned out to be one of the better episodes. Then again, it was already known that the parents were weird, given their phone calls in the first sister episode.

Somebody tell Sorata that they made his game in 2000. It’s called Vagrant Story. Also, ever since it was revealed that Sorata was into game design, who didn’t see it coming that Mashiro would draw something for him?
To be honest that doesn’t even sound fun to me. I didn’t see it coming. I guess I don’t care where this goes so I don’t think about it.
Anyway, for the record I was being facetious about the game. VS is a solo dungeon crawler RPG, so that’s not really fair, but combat is indeed about racking combos with timed button presses, though not really like a rhythm game.
Rhythm game genre usually refers to music in the background though, with actions based on its beat.
I’m sure you could stretch the concept for a number of other different existing games, but this one immediately came to mind. Anyway, what was Sorata’s earlier idea? Train conductor puzzle game or something like that? Not exactly novel there either, huh? But it’s not like novelty is the real goal. Also, this is all way besides the point.
To be honest I haven’t really liked any of his ideas 😛
Well, this series is forgivable with the sister I think. Actually it’s not that rare of a brother complex. The bond between siblings often starts out strong regardless of gender and then fades into obscurity. It was a great episode. Truth be told though I can’t imagine the pace of the rest of the episodes. And Yes. His father is awesome.
Only lately have I gained a real respect for side characters. In fact I’m starting to feel that no series should have side characters but plain ol characters so to speak.
Sorata has an awesome dad. The comedy is well placed and serves the anime well. Liking the developments!
Did anyone notice that Sorata effectively confessed to Shiina that he loved her? She asked him ‘is this (ie the hardworking) the Shiina you love?’ and after a blush he responded yes.
I think it was an I love ice cream vs. I love you kind of thing. I haven’t gone down the road to the japanese language yet so I can’t say for sure.
Linguistically and culturally, that’s probably too strong of a wording to put it that way in English, at least in my (very ill-informed) opinion. For the record, this is how a few entities chose to translate it…
