Toward the Terra – 09

The climax of the Shiroe-arc! And boy, is it a great one. The OP is actually very misleading, as with this episode, two characters who I thought would be major side-characters were already written out of the show. There’s actually nothing much to say about this episode. It was incredibly emotional, especially the last part, and it worked out really well. Shiroe meets a tragic end, I first believed that Mother Eliza would let him go, though Keith is actually ordered to shoot him down. This again shows how much of a robot Keith is, when he kills the guy, just because Mother Eliza tells him to. What kind of influence does she have on him? We also see her claim that she’ll be Keith’s past and memories, if he desires them. There’s definitely much hope for this series if all of its climaxes continue to be of this quality. In the next episode, we should probably see Jomie back for real, while Keith will probably go to the location where Shiroe told him the answer to his past lies.]]>

  1. If I recall correctly, Towards the Terra gets subbed by quite a fast fansubbing group. They should have it released any day now, if they keep to the same speed of the past few weeks.

  2. It’s like I said, they should appear any day now, they haven’t appeared yet. The thing with fansubs is that you won’t be able to predict when they’ll come, as opposed to raws, which always get released around six hours to a day after the original airtime. If you want (or in your case “need”) the fansubs, just have a bit of patience, okay? 😉

  3. If you’d like to know, Saizen & Anime Empire are subbing it.
By the way, I sort of completely love the fact that you always review this show seeing as only one other blog does (which is so sad as it’s really very good and for sure better than other new animes airing), but not with the same personal input. I’m always too hung up after an ending not to read about what everyone thought.
But you’re right. This episode was fantastic, and I never would have thought that Keith would just SHOOT Shiroe!

  4. Just got the chance to see the sub.
This episode was very emotional. I didn’t think (spoilers:) that Keith would kill Shiroe and didn’t think that Shiroe would die, especially not this way. I feel sorry for the kid, he so badly wanted to hold on to his memories, and believed in Peter Pan.
Keith is interesting, he is starting to get some emotions but he still firmly believes in Mother Eliza. I hate Mother Eliza! Keith always goes to her and asks her about everything. Will he ever find out who he really is and what will his reaction be?
    Thanks for blogging 🙂

  5. Remy: Kita ze Inbou also seems to be blogging the show, but indeed, I’m surprised about how little people seem to be talking about this show.
P_Gal: since Shiroe told him the location where the bodies were kept, something tells me that Keith will be trying to go there. At least, any normal human would.

  6. Psgels: True, but two blogs for such a fantastic series? None of the really large ones even touched on or mentioned this series, which shocked me–and only one that i know of decided to watch the first episode before dropping the series in favor of the manga.
But thank you for your continued (&amazingly timely) blogging!

  7. Mizuke: try not to use that smilie, it’s probably a nightmare for every blogger out there, since they mercilessly cut off your comments.
Remy: you’re indeed right. With such a series, I expected much more people talking about it, but it’s mostly ignored! I really don’t know what people have against it, but I’m fearing that the retro-style art has something to do with it, unfortunately. Most comments I’ve seen about this series were turned off because of this art, which is a huge shame, as it looks really great!

  8. psgels: Perhaps this is a slightly foolish question, but what part of the art is retro? perhaps I’m not as well acquainted with anime as I thought, but aside from perhaps Physis’s character design (read: the hair), everyone else looks rather, well, normal.
And for those who are kissing out on all the Terra goodness, well, their loss, huh.

  9. Well, the character-designs definitely aren’t normal, since they turned off many people. They’re actually based on the original character-designs of To Terra, which aired in the eighties. That’s the retro-thing about them.

  10. Awww, Shinroe. I was hoping that he would get back to Jomie, but alas he served his purpose I think in getting emotions out of Keith.
Anyhoo, I am wondering about the Mu message, and the import as to why Keith and not Eliza (mother) was not able to turn it off. Does that mean on some level the computers need humans? I also wanted to know the importance of co-habitation and the ability to get to Mu.
Anyhoo, thanks for blogging this series it is one of my faves from this season!

  11. Huh, go figure. I’d heard about the manga, but I guess it didn’t strike me that the reason the art is said to be 80’ish is because, well, it is
(and that typo? above? k instead of m? is killing me.)
Anyway, thank you for the reply, psgels, and now I just have to hold out until the subs are out before i peek any further and spoil episode 11 for myself!
