Now this was an intriguing episode! It’s almost a shame that I checked it out so early, since I have to wait another week for the next episode. I now understand how Claymore is rumoured to be so different from your average shounen-series. I first thought that Claire would be your average Claymore, but she turns out to be the weakest of them al. It does make sense, though. While every other Claymore is infused with the flesh of a Youma, Claire is infused with Teresa: a half-human half-Youma. What intrigues me even more is the fact that she doesn’t act like she’s in last place. She gets into fights with the stronger Claymores, she shows up either too early or too late, and never apologizes. I think this is because she never really lived as a human, and the Youma who used her probably used her since she was young. Apparently, Claymores usually don’t need to release their powers when they fight. I think that was unique among the stronger Claymores, though now it seems that Claire has the worst time of everyone, trying to get rid of a Youma. But I wonder, if she is infused with Teresa’s flesh, does this means that she excels at sensing Youma as well? If I had to guess, based on the first episode, she doesn’t. Either that, or she doesn’t know it. Another new piece of information also is that when a Claymore awakens, the Organization doesn’t go after it. That does make me wonder about episode two. What if Claire arrived just a bit too late? Why did Elena take so long transforming, while this happened nearly instantly with Priscilla?]]>
Some good ideas you’ve got there, and like you I can’t wait for next weeks episode, by the look of things the awaken being seem to be a lot stronger than they can handle
From what I see, I think Elena’s awakening took a long time because she fought to control it, while Priscilla was having the time of her life doing so. There are cases of Claymores that have gone past their imit but still manage to be reverted back, so willpower plays quite a role in this.
A male awakened one will be interesting. I wonder if this means Raki could become some sort of Yoma or awakened one. Either way I can’t wait for the next episode. 😛
I think Elena took longer because she was trying to hold it back while Prisilla was releasing as much power as she could in an attempt to kill Teresa.
Kite: I think he must be infused with Youma-flesh before that can happen. 😉 And I doubt that’ll be the case, since for some reason, there aren’t any male Claymores around.
Jon, CherylHew ah, yes. It indeed makes sense for this.
Guys the fun is just starting! Now it really gets good. Nice observations psgels^^ As for the male Claymores I think that gets explained next episode or in the near future, and as for Raki…. no comment
This one was awesome. I think this explains how Clare is going to end up fighting evenly with Priscilla too. (I think that after the dream she fights as well as Teresa)
Yoshi927: I actually don’t hope it’s going to be that easy for Claire. People don’t just get amazing powers like that. Otherwise, she would have gotten them already at one point.
“But I wonder, if she is infused with Teresa’s flesh, does this means that she excels at sensing Youma as well? ”
There’s a reason Miria initially thought Clare was far stronger than her rank indicated. You also mentioned in your post why Clare had such a hard time in the fight with Miria (past the obvious).
In addition, remember that Teresa was very strong in Claymore terms, she just happened to not -excel- in any of those attributes.
Males that are awakened were previously infused with Yoma flesh & blood. At first the organization believed that male were the strongest but when releasing Yoki the males felt it very pleasurable making them to reach their limit pretty quick.
psgels:
My somewhat pseudoscientific theory as for that is that the part of Teresa embedded in Clare also encompassed her muscle memory, which was brought out of the subconcious by the total defeat against Miria. And besides, how else is the weakest supposed to become strong enough to take on Priscilla?
Don’t you think that it is because of Teresa that Clair is ranked so low? I mean, she had infused Teresa’s blood in her. The blood of a Claymore. Not the blood of a Yoma. That means that she is not half yoma, half human, but 3/4 human and 1/4 yoma. I believe that’s why she has lower limits, because she has much less yoma power. I find it so weird that she in episode four passed her limit, and almost turned into a yoma, even when her body wasn’t disorted at all. Just her face. It has got to be her blood she was infused with. It’s really weird.
She has Teresa’s ability to fight among yoma’s, I believe, but I think she has some problems finding those.
Did no one else find the attitude of the ‘middle two’ Claymores to Clare just a little bit disturbing? I really felt for her, lying face down in the water like that. Nevertheless, I’m enjoying this series immensely – the art style, plot and character design make it unlike any other anime I’ve ever seen – admittedly my experience isn’t as extensive as some’s!
Yes, Claymore definitely is a unique series. Mostly because it’s a shounen-series, but is so much different from the other shows in the same genre.
