Tiger & Bunny – 09

This show is a delight to watch, even when Lunatic goes on a holiday. Instead, this episode was about the Dragon Kid and like all of the previous that were meant to highlight a particular character, it gave a complete new meaning to her.

what’s more though: even in those episodes, the series continues to build the bond between the important characters, even when they’re not the focus. This episode was also about Kotetsu and his daughter, Barnaby becoming more open about his trauma. This was all made possible by a seemingly silly story at first: taking care of a baby. Because of it though, we even got to see the producer woman being put into a situation that would have been impossible to film (the son of the major getting kidnapped would be… really hard to explain), reducing her to a simple assistant, rather than someone who always gives out orders. All of that was really refreshing. This really was an episode where characters could relate to each other.

The only pity is that the main villains this time only played such a small role. Girls with those abilities deserve to be more than just child kidnappers. I know that it makes perfect sense for the three of them to team up, but they could have been featured in a story that took a bit more advantage of their abilities. Right now they were held back by the one major flaw in storytelling of this series: the way that the main characters are criminal magnets. I know that this series does this to prove its point about superheroes and all, but in this case it prevented a bunch of potentially awesome villains to shine even more.
Rating: ** (Excellent)

  1. Loved Dragon Kid this episode. The episode was ok but my only real complain is how much Bunny changed after Kotetsu saved him (one of the classic cliches).

  2. The episode handled the whole parents and children plot thread quite well. They really took advantage of the fact that the main character has a father’s viewpoint which adds such a fresh perspective. Especially with Bunny and Dragon talking about parents, his opinion gave them a lot more insight.

    About the Bunny and Tiger dynamic. I didn’t think Bunny’s change had a night and day vibe. It feels like Tiger has gradually cracked Bunny over the course of the series and him saving Bunny’s ass came as the breakthrough. At least they established a rapport before things changed.

  3. I like Dragon Kid. She has great powers, and is cool. I kind of wish she had a better feature episode, though. Still it was good to get an inside glimpse at her character.

  4. I don’t think the change in bunny was that dramatic. He had already warmed up to tiger but was just continuing to act the way he did in the start. Now that Tiger was actually hurt because of him he just dropped the act.

  6. I feel that seeing Bunny get drunk (it’s implied right?) with Tiger means that he’s really actually opening up to Tiger. And I like it.

    I laughed a lot at Karina’s reaction to Tiger being a husband and father! Part of me wondered if the shock was due to her crushing on Tiger even if its just a bit….but the realistic part of me attributed it to those roles just not matching with his image ^_^;

  7. Another good episode yet a bit subdued as compared to the rest… I feel there could have been alot more to DragonKid and the storyline but as it was it was good….There is one thing that bothers me though with this episode- Kotetsu in the fire with the stun gun, something about it just felt off to me, out of character. I know there was a purpous to it with Barnaby, but I dunno, it might just be me… none the less, I can only wonder what the next episode will bring with a title like “calm before the storm” I fear there is some great tragedy mounting

  8. I really liked this episode. The babysitting job turned out to be an interesting plot device in fleshing out Dragon Kid (aka Pai Lin), while seeing Barnaby opening up to Kotetsu made me feel warm inside lol. I totally cracked up when Barnaby saved Agnes and she was leaning in his arms, with a shot that usually precedes a kiss, but is then broken by Agnes loudly complaining about her ruined favorite skirt.

    The best moment in this episode for me though was when Kotetsu finally revealed to the other heroes that he’s already married with a kid. Blue Rose and Fire Emblem’s expressions were totally priceless, and seeing Blue Rose cracking up at the thought was just hilarious. This really made me wish there will be a Valentine’s Day episode, just to see if Blue Rose (or, god forbid, Fire Emblem) will be giving any chocolates to Kotetsu.

  9. I can’t believe the hero team spent all that time together without realizing Tiger has a daughter. Btw, at that scene, even Origami opened his eyes and was interested.
